  1. Not all cones are the same, so usually anything goes as I've worked in construction for 35+ years and have seen MANY different cones. I would use 5-minute epoxy to glue the cones to the bases.
  2. On colored plastic bodies, after I scuff up the plastic a bit I use silver, then primer, then my color & clear coats and have never had a problem with bleed through.
  3. A good man you are for wearing them, as I used to work construction and saw SO many guys not wearing goggles when drilling, sawing, grinding, etc. and they looked like an "accident waiting to happen."
  4. The FIRST thing you need for this procedure is a pair of "safety glasses," as modern medicine has still not found a way to replace the human eye.
  5. When you mention the part 'bout ending employment for American workers, you forgot that these companies that laid off their skilled American workers expect us to still buy their products. I almost bought a new Ram truck that I would've had to order which I already knew, until they told me that MY truck would be made south of the border. And that's where I said NO WAY!
  6. "Corporate Greed" is what took manufacturing out of the United States, nothing else.
  7. To some of us, the "golden years" are also known as the "rusty years." My uncle compared getting older is like an old car, our parts wear out.
  8. Wow. I'm behind in my lawn cutting, bush & tree trimming, grill cleaning, installing edging blocks, spreading more mulch, making doctor appointments, and a number of other things. At least I won't run out of things to do. I also try to attend a few car shows & cruise nights as well. Guess I won't be doing any car modeling this summer. Oh well.
  9. I've never used a sealer under MCW paints, only primer. Of course when I'm working with colored plastic, I first apply a coat of silver under the primer and it works great.
  10. Bob from Bob's Paint offers Kustom Khrome and I'm happy with the pieces he had done for me recently. Lots of guys also love his paints, and Bob is a great guy to know and deal with.
  11. I just got back from a southwestern vacation with some friends today and it was HOT in Phoenix, Sedona, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Las Vegas also these past 10 days. Of course it was a "dry heat." It's good to be back home again even though the temps here this weekend are supposed to be near 90 degrees.
  12. X rays should give you a heads up on what's happening, and maybe a cortisone shot will ease the pain form awhile. I went through that with both knees. Good luck Harry.
  13. Great job, as I just love dem Mopars!
  14. A per a conversation with Big John himself in 2002 I had asked him what base coat was used on his Willys, and he replied that the paint was candy red over gold.
  15. Good point there Ace as I usually tape the hood of the car 'bout 1/4" above the body when spraying my final color coats to get an even color coat. This would also have to be done with separate doors and trunk lid as well.
  16. Bob's Paint carries LOTS of candy colors. When using candy colors be sure not to use too many coats, or you will lose the "candy" effect. I've seen someone use too many coats of candy red, and the car had a maroon color when he was done. You need to have the base color, usually gold or silver seen beneath the candy color coats. Candy colors can be done by air-brushing, or by using "rattle cans."
  17. Excellent job you did on that Duster as I just love dem Mopars!
  18. The AMT '49 Mercury kit has been around for a long time, and is a good kit in my book. Usually when building a lot of my models I just "wing it" as far as paint colors go. However if you want to be fairly accurate, I would Google the '49 Mercury for factory colors, interior colors, under carraige photos, etc. Good luck with your build.
  19. Looks like there's a cry baby no matter what the subject is.
  20. Surfs up!
  21. That "bowtie" build is lookin' REAL good Pat.
  22. I'm in the same boat that you're in as I have lots also. I wish I had the "motivation" to go with it.
  23. Welcome back Jim, and very nice work on that "Poncho."
  24. I also remember his articles in the magazines as well as his partner Tom Gaffney. They were the dynamic duo of car modeling back then.
