Question about tape
High octane replied to Chris Evans's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've used Scotch 3M General Purpose (tan) Masking Tape for years and it seems to work fine for me for two tones, or whatever. -
I had to order my "Missle" from my LHS and paid a steep price for it, however I do believe in supporting my LHS and would sorely miss them if they "folded up." I only open 'bout 30 % of my kits, however I did open the Missle today to see if there was any body damage due to packaging. I even manange to get all the parts back in the box minus the body. The was everything was "crammed" in the box, one would think that this was a 3 in 1 kit. While I remember seeing these Super Stocks race back-in-the-day, I have no idea when I'll get to building my Missle kit as I have a lot of other models I'd like to get built also.

I think there's one in the Springfield area, and a few in the Chicagoland area also.

Junior Stock drag racing question
High octane replied to bismarck's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I believe the fuelie Black Widow would run in Junior Stock, and yes they were a factory build. -
Awesome work Lance and it reminds me of the work you used to do in 1/25th scale 40 years ago, in the Old Town Escorts club.

Hate Your Pin Vise? Build a Better Mousetrap....
High octane replied to garagepunk66's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
No I don't hate my pin vise as I've had it for many years. It's made by General Hardware Manufacturing Co. in New York and it seems to work very well for my use. -
Kustom Khrome

Bob is a terrific guy as I've known him for 15 years or so. I've had plating done by him and I was satisfied. He currently has some parts to plate for me. His paints for air-brushing are fantastic as I know many modelers who use them. Yes Bob sends out his parts to be plated and so does Robert from Chrome Tech USA. I've used Spaz-Stix on resin parts with good results. -
Over the years my "favorite writer" was whoever signed my checks.

Pretty much done with resin.

I have PLENTY of kits and parts already so I don't mind the wait at all. -
Bill Jenkins' Black Arrow 1965 Belvedere
High octane replied to Jim_Kampmann's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
By lookin' at the "build sheets" or table cards you find out who built the model, and maybe you already know that person or you might meet him at the event. That's why I was told by a fellow club member not to cover my name on the table card when I put it next to my build. -
Very nice build on that Dart, and I just love dem Mopars!

Paint issues
High octane replied to American 185 Heavy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Bruce, I usually apply three color coats of paint on my bodies at 20 minute intervals. I then clear coat the body the same way 24 hours later. I've never had a problem doing this. As for the wrinkled spot on the roof, you didn't say whether you were using enamel or lacquer paints. If lacquer I would let the paint "cure" for a week, sand the wrinkles out, mask the body and re-shoot the roof. If enamel paints were used I'd let the paint "cure" for 'bout a month and then sand the wrinkles out, mask the body, and re-shoot the roof. I hope this helps. -

NNL shows - what is the norm?
High octane replied to vamach1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You obviously have never worked at putting on an NNL show. It takes a LOT of work and a lot of set up not only by the host club, but other clubs setting up "club displays." With that in mind, there is NO time for "early birds" or pre-sell tickets. As for the raffle, not everyone is listening to the PA system as they may be setting up their models on the tables or talking to friends or new acquaintances. Seems like it is easier for ticket holders to check the board for winning ticket numbers at their convenience. -
A LOT of people don't obey traffic laws and think that the laws are for "other" people and not them.

I've bought a few sets of slicks from Speed City Resin and I'm happy with them and their service.

Only over gauges on the dash I would use Epoxy.
