  1. Good points Harry as times are changin' overnight. Not always for the better, but they are changin'. A person can ignore the changes up to a point, but sooner or later the changes will catch up to them.
  2. Sounds like your glass is always "half empty" Craig.
  3. While I didn't do R/C cars, I did do R/C boats back in the 90's and at the races the nitro smells reminded me of the drag strip. Al's Hobby Shop was a sponsor, and Al himself would stop by at the races, since his sons were racing as well.
  4. Hmmmmmmmm, good response and thanks, but I was thinking more of a lacquer paint.
  5. I don't believe that I've built a model airplane kit since the mid-late(?) '50's and I would like to build one soon to hang from the ceiling of my den/hobby room. I have chosen the AT-6/SNJ Texan. The box art shows a yellow body, but that wouldn't be a gloss yellow would it? I was thinkin' of spraying it gloss yellow and then spraying Dull-Cote over it, would that work, or no? Your help would be appreciated, thanks.
  6. Mike, I remember going to Al's Hobby Shop in the early 60's as I rode my bike from Chicago to my aunt's house in Northlake, and then to Al's. And don't forget Hamburger Heaven on North and York Aves. The hobby shop has changed quite a bit since then.
  7. That sad news indeed, but the hobby business is kinda risky these days. It's WAY different then it was back in the 50's & 60's.
  8. No red, as it would bleed through and give you orange. I hope that you spray yellow over WHITE primer. Grey primer should only be used if you're spraying silver or black over it. Grey primer tends to darken other colors and keeps them from "popping."
  9. The Cubs seem to throw away a LOT more than just a cake.
  10. The solution to having a lot of kits is to buy a bigger house? I think not, it's just a "BAND AID," and no more.
  11. My daughter has a ton of stuff on her key ring, and although I did mention it, I believe that it went in one ear and out the other. Oh well...................................
  12. As I get older, it seems like I have MANY kits that I'll never get around to building. Oh well...........................
  13. Very nice job on that build Tommy, and if you enjoyed building it, "that's all that counts."
  14. Yes it is good and there's one VERY simple solution, MOVE.
  15. I've had mine now for 'bout three weeks and have yet to open it. I have a couple projects on the bench and I've been busy otherwise. I do have some paint coming in the mail for it though.
  16. It may be illegal Harry, but MANY drivers STILL talk or text and drive. NOBODY cares.
  17. Wow, that sure is purty, and I just love dem Mopars!
  18. Life is "tough" all over Craig, get used to it.
  19. When "cell phones" first hit he market, the ads said that the phones would be handy in case of an emergency. Today a LOT of cell phones cause emergencies. I've seen people crossing the street while playing with their phones, riding their bikes and talking on the phone, roller blading (today) on the street and talking on their phones, walking in a parking lot on their phones, and the list goes on and on. While a LOT of people are "computer savvy" today, it also seems like a lot of people are senseless and either don't realize or don't care that they can be injured for life or even killed just because they were to busy on their phones. It also seems like a lot of people would be completely baffled if they lost their phones and wouldn't have "a clue" what to do without one. I mean some people even take their phones to bed with them, c'mon!!!
  20. That is beautiful Steven, excellent job on that build. I just may have one of those in my "stash" somewhere.
  21. The "S" word for SPRING? Must be as I got bugs on my windshield today.
  22. Yes Venture Hobbies was a "booming" place when Don Phillips owned it, and I remember the original shop further east ( you have your E & W mixed up) on Dundee as well. I was there many times. Don was a great guy, and would do a lot for his customers. I know that he sponsored many trophies for model car clubs and model car contests back-in-the-day. Don was very successful as he was able to do some world traveling while owning that shop. You're right as the new owners "trashed" that very good hobby shop. Low inventory, not paying their bills, etc.
  23. Don't worry Harry, as it'll be back in about 8 short months or so.
  24. Michael, the hobby shop n Wheeling was called Venture Hobbies as I've gone there for years. They're gone now as they closed up shop maybe two years ago.
  25. A couple years back we had a woman putting on nail polish while driving and ran over a motorcycle killing the driver. Guess she didn't have time to do it at home, so somebody lost their life because of it. My truck got rear ended one time and the driver was stupid enough to tell the cop that he was tying his shoes. I told the cop that I tie mine at HOME.
