  1. Thanks !..I'll have to look at those......'Z'
  2. Lookin good so far;are those the kit front tires?........'Z'
  3. Welcome,Paul....You will enjoy this place !.....Steve Zimmerman aka the'Z'man
  4. Sharp build,Tom....I especially like the wheels !.......'Z'
  5. I cut those apart and use the magnets to hold my hoods closed (and open), although I've found the magnets themselves are available at www.amazingmagnets.com..........'Z'
  6. Jim, there are decals available from a myriad of aftermarket decal suppliers,or you could advertise in tne Forums here and elsewhere online if you know specifically what you want. I shop the contests and swap meets ,knowing specifically what kits I want that still have RWL tires. Another source is diecast; many of these have raised white lettered tires, and aren't much more expensive then buying a set of aftermarket wheels/tires..... There are some aftermarket ones available, but I'm not familiar with who,offhand.............the'Z'man
  7. That's going to look good......are you going to keep the front low,or going Gasser?...PLEASE.keep it 'in da weeds' !....'Z'
  8. I buy the elastic braided cord usually found in the sewing section at your local fabric/craft store, and it comes in black or white. I use a silver permanent magic marker to'color' mine. i've also used the black cord 'as is'; I've seen real('1/1') braided lines in black. Also,in the real world, you can buy braided hose covering kits that go over your regular hose; I've seen these in red and blue. You could duplicate these with markers also. I've tried the metallic braided line which comes in several colors, but it just doesn't look right once it's in place on your model.
  9. Harry,I'd like to think that one of the differances is,here he CAN post about SA(no E) I buy both Scale Auto AND Model Cars because baby that's about all we got,and I wear out BOTH mags waitin for the next issue.
  10. So....you stole it? Great example for the young modellers on here.
  11. I've used the hose and the crimp tubes for years, but the connecters were a new one on me great tip! One other thing,I use braided elastic cord (ANY craft shop/sewing outley) for my braided line. It comes in 5 or 6 differant sizes to fit #2,#3,#5 and #6 fittings(maybe more, but those I know for sure),and can be colored with a silver magic marker to look like braided metal. One word of caution here-examine the elastic closely, some will look very uniformly braided, while other packs will look very uneven. To keep it from unravelling when you cut it,touch a SMALL drop of superglue where you want to cut it,then use your Xacto blade and cut the line at an angle. This gives you a sharp 'point' on the line and makes it much easier to thread into fittings. (BOY,those suckers can FLY !!!!) Be sparing with the superglue as the cord will 'wick' it if you're not carefull, and lose its flexability. You can use this to your advantage,if you want to pre bend your lines. Stuff's cheap too, about 2 bucks for about 20 feet..........'Z'
  12. So much fer PROOF readind;previous post should have said STREET RODS, not Dtreet Rods..........'Z'
  13. ....SOOoooo,harryhater.....for the third,time.........What do you like to build?....Dtreet Rods,Pro Street,Box stock......You've made around 40 posts to this forum, and (IIRC) you haven't had ONE POST dealing with MODELS...........? We all get off topic once in a whilebut.............'nuff said?I've stayed out of this quagmire'cause it ain't worth it. So,ONCE AGAIN,whaddaya build?..............theZman
  14. I dunno, but my wife just pours it on the floor right from the bottle, then spreads it around with a mop/ oh come on,SOMEBODY hadta say it (GRIN).......'Z'
  15. I always wet sand my primer with 1000 grit wet-or-dry before painting. After letting the paint cure for at least a week,I go right to the 4000 sanding pad and wet sand till the whole model is smooth and all orange peel is gone. I then go to the Novus # 2 polish, and then Meguiars Mirror Glaze 'Show Car Glaze' ; then to Meguiars Gold Class clear coat liquid car wax.......works for me! I used to run through the polishing pads from 3200 ,3600 grit, and doing the entire model progressing through the grits all the way to 12000(as recommended by the mfg) but it was time consuming , easy to polish through the paint, and generally a pain in the butt. I think you'll find there's about as many differant ways to polish a paint job as there are modellers!.............theZman
  16. Hey,that's SHARP !.....What kit are the headers from?...........Steve Z
  17. Oh man,I LIKE that........that's sharp!........the'Z'man
  18. That's a good lookin paint job. You said it was duplicolor, might I ask what's the name of the color, and the # on the can?......'Z'
  19. One nice thing about the 'Willys' suspension mentioned above; the upper 'A' arms are molded to the frame, making it much less fiddly to build, and also much more sturdy-and easier to assemble without that dreaded'one wheel in the air' look (grin)
  20. My vote is for the 'All contest' issue.........It's my favorite issue of the year, both MC and SA(no E).........
  21. I drill out the headlights, then use an appropriately sized piece of polished aluminium tubing to simulate the chrome headlight trim ring, and place a parts box headlight bucket inside it with a clear lens.....I 'scour' parts boxes at swap meets for clear headlight lenses; you'd be surprised at how many differant diameters of headlight lenses that are available.........'Z'
  22. As with ANYTHING you paint, you need to clean the surface you will be paint/primering,then you need to sand it before you primer(I use 600 grit wet or dry) You need to then sand the primer before paint; here I use 1000 grit. I know many here have great results using other proceedures, but this works for me. I did custom paint on 1/1 vehicles for 30 years, and these are the same techniques I was taught to use there. Steve Zimmerman aka the'Z'man.....
  23. Race Motor Replicas carries 3 differant hoods for the AMT 55 Chevy two door sedan and Nomad....A 'low' cowl hood, about the height of a 69 Z/28 cowl; a taller cowl hood, but not as tall as the outlaw styles ( maybe 6" or so ); and a hood with the power bumps from the 67 Chevelle SS molded in.......Call Ron @ 814 337 4250 after noon any day..........PS--- RMR also has a chopped 55 Chevy 2 door sedan body available with the chrome removed, molded in bumpers, and re worked rear wheel well openings, fits the AMT kit.
  24. About the wood grain on this kit (1) am I the only one that likes it? and(2) it sits flush with the body so it's VERY easy to'make go away'Although the headlights do look HORRIBLE(wife calls it the 'squashed frog') I think this was a ground breaking kit for AMT.....I have about 10 in my stash, and have one in primer ( no woodgrain)with 37 Ford headlights in the fenders; and one in primer(also no woodgrain) with no headlights in the fenders at all,and am thinking about Prowler headlights in the hood sides.Although I don't care for the rims,AMT finally 'got wid da program' by FINALLY going to big n littles, albeit they were from the Prowler(wise choice of multi-use parts)and used them in a few other kits as well...My two cents worth, the'Z'man
  25. Yes PLEASE by all means let us know what paint you used. That is a beautiful color on a great looking model....aren't you glad you didn't 'rat rod' it?........
