  1. in two weeks Leno will be driving it and everyone will think it's great
  2. interesting comments all. I got out of high school by the skin of my proverbial teeth, bought some tools and went to work. then at 45 I went to a "technical college". then retired this year at 61. but read about "today's college grad" and there's more than a bit of information how an "education" has been sold to them. and once they've invested heavily in all the advanced degrees for marketability, they're straddled with enormous student loans to pay back when the jobs so earnestly studied for are offering little more than minimum wage entry level. most recent example I know (albeit vicariously) was the plumber's physical therapist. she was working her first job after school, and her husband in the final stage of medical school. both were 28 years old and had more than $300,000 in school debt to repay before being at "0". that's a big hole to climb out. no; I don't know how old the plumber is ....
  3. check the Open Wheel Forum for built pictures of these great kits.
  4. that's a big admission on the educators' part. and may turn the trend seen in the last 2 generations getting out of 4 year colleges hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt and then starting off at the bottom of the totem pole. I can add more prepositions if required.
  5. AMT '40 Ford sedan mounted on a K&B chassis - circa 1964
  6. google "Uschi fine grain veneer" for an excellent tutorial
  7. one of my most used tools is a block of wood (mahogany I think) about 1" x 2" x 4". I use it like a jewelers block. make a few different sizes and keep them in a cigar box over the bench for easy access. you won't be out a lot of money - or sorry you did.
  8. I remember those great models Augie Hiscano built. imagine actually using jewelers screws and watch crystal cement. what - 1964?
  9. I like the mufflered exhausts on the Mint model
  10. after reading the title, I thought it meant .... oh, never mind....
  11. instead of runnin' 'shine, sounds like he's runnin' mulch
  12. got my order of etch yesterday; good stuff all.
  13. rusty 'vette . . . ha ha
  14. anyone have an idea for making wicker (caned) body panels? or decal source? I'm not inclined to try the "solvent & mesh" method. thanks
  15. happy to hear DJ is using boxes. I understand photo-etch sometimes needs to be folded, but I don't trust the mailman to do it in the right spots.
  16. that came out Boss; no excuses there
  17. and (follow up question to the OP), does anyone have an acceptable way of making "dummy" hinges instead of the little blip the manufacturer sticks on?
  18. I remember Revell kits that basically couldn't be built (separate fenders, too). now we whine about a little glitch, and AMT is so impossible. we're such great "assemblers", yet can't we make something out of the box o' parts? Q: could it be we don't know when we're well off?
  19. with that attitude, i'll bet you'll be out on early release.
  20. so what, now you're going to decide cases by evidence?
  21. stupidity is a gateway drug
