  1. just like prison rehabilitates?
  2. collect enough, and you can trade them for a bus ticket
  3. this may be getting to the crux. there are so many things in our lives we cannot control, but we can get the photo etch seat belt buckles, wiring harness, & blue dot tail lights to look right.
  4. proves CAD don't got no soul
  5. I think the base is flash from the casting. slice it off right at the bottom of the siding.
  6. I read that, too. and thought to myself: why doesn't he lead by example.
  7. . . . thread starters had spell check?
  8. can the zerk fittings be cast separately? I strive for ultimate details.

  10. +1. does the job, quick, easy, & will travel well without cracking. spray adhesive mount to built-up base of foamcore for rigidity.
  11. that was my initial reaction. and the pin/ wire doesn't jump out at me if it is, in fact, really there.
  12. interesting combination of old 'n' new. I remember a guy who would tout the benefits of rotary engines; had a mazda with a wankle engine. next one, you might consider sliding the engine a skoche closer to the firewall, but maybe this particular transmission needs the clearance - I dunno?
  13. or maybe just paint a chunk of the aforementioned sandpaper (220 or finer?). i'd laminate the back with masking tape - but not sure why . . . ?
  14. I think you're on to something with the paper. it's going to be buried in other details, and you want it to recede into the background anyway (assumption) unless you're building a carpet showroom. art supply stores usually have a gazillion different weights & textures of paper. or hobby lobby - Michael's. for small mixed quantities, go to the scrapbook section. bring weekly coupon & credit card!
  15. what's done is, but there may be some tips here, at least to get you started: http://italianhorses.net/Tutorials/Photoetch/pe.htm http://www.scalemodelguide.com/construction/techniques/photo-etched-parts-models/ http://thesmallshop.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3
  16. that '49 with the skirts & lakes pipes looks like it could get the job done
  17. kind of connected (ha ha): who makes a detailed universal?
  18. the magazines are a real trove of hobby history.
  19. a dozen kits will barely get you started. better get your letter to Santa in the mail PDQ!
  20. cheer up; next week will be a debate over '32 roadster body discrepancies. stay tuned!
  21. anything on the bench, yet?
  22. I think that's the fun part. the longer the building takes, the more money I would be willing to spend. I still view modeling as a time/ dollar equation. to answer the question (which seems important), I would spend up to $2.00 per hour for modeling entertainment. so if a model took 100 hours to build, I would consider spending $200 for the kit, paint, sundries (blades, sandpaper, thinner), photo etch & resin accessories. most of my hobbying costs me less than a dollar per hour. i'm slow, like to research, and enjoy the process.
  23. any chance the Revell set up is 1/24 scale, and the AMT unit is 1/25?
