  1. i think more important than learning how to make a radiator cover is the lesson of "how to look at something and visualize something else". Kudos to both authors for reminding us that we shouldn't be trapped by our own thinking.
  2. found out today that a technician I know had an aneurysm a couple of months ago. short version; he's in rehab and is starting to walk again. kid's about 30, wife, house, two children. perspective. we need not lose it. be thankful for every day, lads.
  3. that's what I was hoping .................. ps: no relation, even very distant, to the OP
  4. "... good enough for the girls I go with..." dang! if she got a friend, can you hook a brother up? there's more parts from the valve covers up than on most of my complete models.
  5. it's free & a good site. short version = Lyle Willits had a fire and surrounding houses were damaged. send good vibes his way!
  6. from TRAK : http://trakinscale.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gbs&action=display&thread=15904
  7. lead foil. it's what the military modelers (sometimes) use. and who makes more flags than they? http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/vpi/vpi0050.htm there's of course other brands et cetera. you could even use the wrapper from the last - or next - bottle of vino
  8. admitting you have a problem is the first step!
  9. yeah; the Golden Earing is the flip side of Radar Love. right?
  10. i'm getting another Rat Roaster just for the wheels
  11. s I g h . . . then I really am that old. thanks
  12. never heard anything by BTO except "Radar Love" (which I do!); thanks for putting this up
  13. now that is a cab-over!
  14. well i'm thoroughly confused. on another note, it's cool to see the se- well, whatever it is, with the raised roof. we're always chopping & lowering, never thinking of going up.
  15. was this a generic box with a sticker of the included car on the end panel?
  16. don't forget the weekly 40% off coupon for Michael's or hobby lobby
  17. got a few of them now, but 25 years ago it was a tipping point
  18. ex-partner, eh . . . ?
  19. something that can make an unbelievable scene is introducing/ mixing real materials with representative. it's accepted your vehicle is not sheet metal, but when you place it in front of a stone wall made with pebbles you found last summer on vacation, the wall looks fake. too much detail can blow it, also. another hot debate is to make nail holes or not. a good guideline is the 12' rule. if it could not be seen from (real 1:1) 12' away, leave it out.

  21. I think the story has to be there. BUT, care must be taken when motion is brought into the picture. the quintessential example of this can be the "running commuter" on a model train layout. when the train goes past the station, well ... there's a guy with a briefcase standing on one leg!
  22. I just assumed we were all being punished until the real culprit raised his (or her) hand
  23. next time, try "goose!" but not on the first date.
