  1. I think for the look you are going for Claude's suggestion of a gloss white base for the polished aluminum would be the go. Do a couple test pieces to see what works best. @peteski Do you have any recommendations regarding the OP. With your vastly superior knowledge it would be good to see or hear a suggestion instead of the totally unnecessary off topic discussion.
  2. Still on the bench. Waiting for the weather to cool down a bit, so I can apply the clear.
  3. Good to see back posting again Bob. Looks like you progressing well with this build. Unusual little machine.
  4. Messing around with 68. Joys of metal axle kits, easy to change the stance.
  5. Will be awhile before I work on the Comet, have to wait until USPS decide to ship to Australia again. Then I will receive a grill from Moebius. Yeah you should, always enjoying seeing your Nissan builds.
  6. Put a surfacer check coat on the 68, so had to get out a 67 and do the same.
  7. Decided to apply a check coat of 1500 black surfacer.
  8. Way too many, but thats what keeps it interesting for me. I get bored and lose interest easily.
  9. Applied a coat of gray surfacer and think ive decided on the wheels These are the wheels. Havent used them on a build before.
  10. Same usual suspects thinking they are the voice of authority, logic and reason. Visibility leads to credibility. So glad I spend more time at my bench than what I do on here lately. Much more fun actually building something than talking about. Guess I enjoy the hobby in a different way than certain suspects.
  11. Got the body all prep sanded and flares attached, next will apply 1500 gray surfacer. Still undecided on the wheels, so will keep using these for now.
  12. Quality products make a difference. No worries glad it worked out for you, should try the levelling thinner it will come out even better.
  13. Needed another build to get some more practice using the SMS paints. So got this kit out. Opened up the wheel arch's in preparation for the flares/over fenders. Only using these wheels for mock up purposes. Applied a very light check coat of 1500 surfacer black. Also lowered it a bit more. Re scribed door lines and pre scribe around the trim. Next up will remove the mold lines and block wet sand entire body with 1000-1500 grit. Then wet sand again with 2000-12000.
  14. Ended up having to colour wet sand the 57. Pebbling was bad in a couple spots So used Donn Yost method of sanding metallics, but I used GodHand 4000, 6000, 8000, 10000 sanding sponges. Very surprised how well the SMS pearl wet sanded, Almost could have left it as is and cleared. But had to re coat as there was some thin spots, no burn thru at all. And here it is after the re coat. Doesnt look any different than before. But it is as it has no pebbling LOL!
  15. Looks like you are starting to master the art of using the machine.
  16. Rammstein at Big Day Out Adelaide 2001.
  17. Nice work on the interior Joe, just needs a doof doof system in the back, couple subs and amps. Maybe even a tv as a partition wall from the driver. Aykroyd version looks gangsta with the black and purple, makes me think Nissan midnight purple for some reason. Keep at it.
  18. Very impressive mate, you done an excellent job painting them. Some interesting techniques used to achieve the varying effects. They turned out awesome, well done.
  19. From my viewing perspective, there is a difference. Both have the same mirror reflective finish, but polished aluminum is a bluish sliver, where as the chrome is a blackish silver. Does that even make any sense LOL! Alclad paints are the same as what I just mentioned. Dont know much about big rigs, but I assume most is polished aluminum due to it weighing less than chrome plated steel.
  20. Nice work on the tubs, wheels suit the style of build.
  21. Progressing well on the interior, starting to take shape. Keep at it.
  22. Cant say ive seen many of these built, good to see something different.
  23. I really dont like painting metallics and pearls, as I am not very good applying them especially with an airbrush. Thats why I like to paint everything black, but that gets boring and there are some very nice colours out there. Thats what the 57 is all about, experimenting, learning and doing something other than black. Got it painted, I was worried about the texture on the trim from the pearl, so masked it before applying the paint. Got a bit of pebbling on the trunk near lower window trim, and few here and there. Oh well, live and learn. Will wipe some of when fully dry and hope to bury the rest in the clear. Cant wait to see this cleared and in the sunlight.
