  1. "it's known as the World Wide Web. all different things happen here. just roll with it! " Yep! considering the condition of the world ? How's that attitude working?
  2. It does look great!! And rather period accurate!
  3. Could a Basics anything on this forum work when even "basic " requests, rules and reasonable use of english is a problem? I'd volunteer to moderate just this topic if I knew that the wise-A's would be dealt with...severely. Only when this board tightens this up,and yes, loses many members who just have no concept as to how to behave. On a more positive note, just a FAQ on many repetitive topics might be a better way to go.It WOULD be up to members to read it though.
  4. If you (or anyone else) decides to scratch-build a rollbar, get a contour copier. It's a device/tool that looks like a bunch of wires bound together and as you push it against a shape, you get a profile of the positive and negative of that shape. They don't cost much, usually less than $10-15.They also come in handy for keeping things symmetrical .
  5. I soak the entire kit on the trees in a tub of Super Clean before doing anything to it. I use 0000 steel wool rinsed in alcohol and rub down the body and related parts, then a wash with dish soap and a brush.
  6. The ring is a convenient grip for using them with your fingers.
  7. I think the hands down best way to gather some info is: Go to Alumilite &/or Smooth-on web site (google those names) and also check out video's on You tube.
  8. "Over here the kit is very rare and hard to find, and when found it is even more expensive." The kit is very rare over here too!
  9. THAT would be a very cool classic Kustom, but cars like that are more than the body mods. If I recall correctly(and have mercy here,I'm 61 ) it has some unique tailights, grille and etc. How are those coming along? Looking forward to seeing this as a resin offering.
  10. These builds and craftsmanship really look great. :o Those quilting groups in my community are looking better and better!(jus' kiddin'
  11. There could be something on the cloth your using to apply the scratch X . The scratches could be something from underneath, coming thru the final paint. You didn't mention if you used any of the Micro-mesh cloths or pads, but they can develop little (I couldn't see them without my magnifying visor)cracks, mostly in the finer grits 4000 and above.
  12. I looked at both scenarios, and in my opinion and limited skillset, it was easier to swap the front fender TIPS from the '69 Charger to the '69 Daytona. It's all Revell and except for what to do about the front side marker lights it does look good. I'll try and take pics of both attempts except that the grille and bumpers are setup in clay for a RTV mold. FYI, I used the 500 grille from the MPC kit and cut out the grille in the Revell kit.
  13. "Lost leader is what our ecomony has too many of ... leadership and leaders that are totally lost." Good one Dan I'd get a copy right lawyer on that one right away!!
  14. "Finish that one up, The 500 also had the same A-piller trim on them like the Daytona. I made sure to add them to the MPC 500 I need to finish up. Look up the real car on Google. Everyone I have seen has them." Well reading that is a relief. I did one a few years back, actually two attempts. One used the roof from the MPC 500 and the '69 from Revell. Lot of work and the roof transplant came out looking like a chopped top.Tried the Revell Daytona and the front portion of the front fenders from the Revell '69 kit and that turned out great. Still have some issues with the fronts marker lights though.
  15. Look at the picture of Terry's can of Bondo putty. You'll see a red 3M in the left upper corner of the label. 3M has been the parent of both Dynatron and Bondo for a few years. The parent company of Testor's is RPM .
  16. "Life is Tough......It's even Tougher when you're stupid......John Wayne " or illiterate
  17. Need to know if this has a separate chassis,No molded on floorboards. Thanks
  18. It would be risky, but oh so cool. I can think of the 12'65 Plymouth & Dodge factory cars, then there is all the Ford & Mercury stuff. Then all the privateer stuff. If the model companies did there homework and sweated the details it would be good
  19. I didn't see it mentioned, but I like the kits that have a separately molded frame independent of the floorpan.
  20. I think there both great examples of the craft. To each his own,but to say one is the best is just one's opinion. I just saw a beautifully done '60 Starliner on the cover of Rod & Custom.Do I think this one is better than the other two,no,just another example of the craft.
  21. Googleing came up with this:It's 1/18 close enough? http://scaledetails.com/ProductEnlarge.asp?ProductID=48383 I'm sure I had a set of the hardware (no belt material) by Model Technologies but don't know where it is,and could find no catalog reference on the web.
  22. For a first build, you didn't do too bad. You didn't state what paint was used, but it could be more glossy. Maybe a careful go around with some Novus #2 or some other Mild compound. The weathering on the underside looks believable. Of course, foiling the trim would be a plus, that will come in due time.
  23. Techically, yes but you possibly could vacuum and pressure in one,but as a general rule,no.I'd have to see what container you're planning on using. For instance, some vacuum chambers are made of plastic or glass(bell jar) and they could't be used for pressure.
  24. I've got over 1000 transactions on the 'bay as both a seller and buyer, but much more as a buyer. I'm reluctant to sell any kit unless it's factory sealed. If I were to sell an opened kit NOT sealed inside I think I'd lay it out and include that picture so there could be no disputes as to what was there and what was not. I've gotten "burned" a few times and left negative/neutral feedback though. In the words of a wise collector I know,"if you've never had a bad deal, you haven't had enough deals". I also think that limiting sellers from giving RETALIATORY feedback has been one of the better tweaks to ebay. They can still comment after the fact, but a jerk seller can't impact a good buyer. In the end,I (we) should remember that some of the folks selling models are modelers just like you and me who have bought 'way more stuff that we will never use.
  25. I missed some of the last couple years of MCM and figured I'd check out the availability of a back issues. So the short story is there are no back issues. Does MCM plan on offering these?
