  1. That's exactly the livery my P71 originally had ! Thanks much for the clarification of the acronym , and for the correct 'Unified' nomenclature .
  2. Crystal Pepsi generation ! As the playwright George Bernard Shaw put it, "Youth is wasted on the young."
  3. Definitely preserve that "Swiraladelic" (actual nomenclature) scheme ! I can just smell the odours of Aqua Net , hair gel , and Marlboro Reds !
  4. There's the adhesive-remains of "IUSD" on the forward-edge of the roof . Combining that acronym with tan interior = desert-region unit . I'm thinking that the 'IUSD' stands for 'Indio Union School District' , eg. a unit assigned to the Indio schools . Judging by its condition and its relatively-low-miles , my assumption stands to reason. Still somewhat mystified by the presence of carpeting vs. black rubber-vinyl mats... As far as the blend door , etc. , is concerned : if it's going to cost too much , I'll simply deal with it as it is . The A/C blows cold enough ; and since cold air sinks , the defroster vents will provide de facto cooling . Besides , the heater / defogger blow hot , so I'm good there , too . I'd rather put the money towards other items anyhow .
  5. I was in high school in the mid 1980's when reruns --and reunion tours-- of the original ( and only ) Monkees programme were aired on MTV . That steaming pile of Mullet-era seagull sauce was the worst thing since New Coke ! I came mighty close to buying that kit on clearance back in early 1988 , but decided to pass -- just couldn't see-past the acid washed denim and moussed-up mullets to justify the abject embarrassment I'd potential incur if I were caught even looking at the box with that Aqua Net mess on it .
  6. Funny you should mention the intake manifold --- used to deliver boxes-upon-boxes of those plastic road apples to all of the L.A. City and L.A. County police garages . IIRC , the part number dated to a 1998 update ( F8AZ -- ) , which were improved vs. the original , c.1991 ( F0AZ or F2AZ -- prefix ) design / construction . Thankfully my example is equipped with the alminium intake ( not sure if it's a factory upgrade by c.2004 , or if it was replaced under a TSB or Recall ) . The only issues that the car has : 1.) Brake lights don't illuminate ; turn signals / running lights work as expected . Likely the brake switch . 2.) Climate control blend door is either stuck or broken ( heater blows hot ; defogger works quickly -- but when switched to the 'Vent' or A/C setting , the air still goes-through the defroster vents and floor vents . Blows nice and cold , just to the incorrect deflectors ) . Runs much , MUCH better than I'd anticipated : a surprisingly smooth ride for a P71 ; steering is spot-on ; brakes are great ; 4R75W trans shifts perfectly ; speedometer is spot-on . Thanks much , one and all , for your input .
  7. I'm going to check out a 2003 P71 Crown Victoria tomorrow . It's listed as having 127,000 miles ; it looks quite nice judging by its photos : black with white roof and all-four doors (no agency marques) ; tan interior with carpeting ( unusual for any standard police car ) ; Certified 140 speedometer ; centre-mount trunk-release , etc. , etc. Asking price is $2,500 (that's comfortably-within my budget) . Any potential issues with that specific model / year I should pay attention to ? Naturally , I'll examine all the usual items ( trans fluid level , colour , and odour ; brake fluid level , colour , and odour ; hoses / coolant ; overflow-and-or-expansion tank , etc. , etc.) . It's been a dream of mine for more than 40 years to own a retired police car (ever since watching The Blues Brothers , really) , so I hope that all goes well . I'm not expecting a well-cared-for creampuff ( the presence of carpeting bothers me to an extent , as I'd MUCH prefer the typical black mats ) , but am wondering about other items to look for as far as potential "stay-away !" wear items . Thanks !
  8. Moebius' line must be packing the contents before they're fully-cooled . Their boxes are packed tighter than the south-end of a Goldfish , which certainly contributes to the warping . The only Moebius kit I have is the Model King release of the 1970 F-100 short bed from c.2013 . My copy doesn't seem to have any warping issues , but I have approached their kits with lots of trepidation .
  9. That is a beautiful 1962 Valiant ! It especially looks nice in that blue colour ; and the tyres and wheels are perfect ! I have a 1960 or 1961 Valiant hardtop disassembled promotional which needs a restoration .
  10. Some 10-ish years ago , Round2 announced that the old MPC 1971 Demon 340 was slated for reissue . Obviously , that never came to fruition ; instead , the 1975 / 1976 Dart Sport was reissued in its 1975 annual livery . I wonder whatever became of that Demon ? Perhaps an early attempt at a backdating ( think : Grumpy's 1972 Vega ) gone wrong ? Honestly , an all-new 1971 Demon would be the best way to go . The MPC kit isn't without its inaccuracies and faults .
  11. Thanks much . IIRC , the MPC Corvettes and Camaros had a 'generic' Mark IV from c.1968 - c.1981 .
  12. Thanks much for the clarification . I wasn't aware that the '68 redesign was delayed from a 1967 model year introduction . Does that '70 have a 'generic' Mark IV engine , or is it a small block ?
  13. While I'm not hip to all of the year-to-year cosmetic updates , I wonder if the one in the box top photo is actually a 1968 ? The box proclaims All New Corvette , which by 1970 was a two year old design . Never-the-less ; that's a sweet find ! No mention --as presented-- of an engine or engines size(s) , which is unusual for that era. Now , if the box art mentions 'LS-7 454' , then it's definitely a '70 .
  14. Fantastique ! Plum Crazy ( Plymouth called it In-Violet ) looks amazing ; better than the best paint job from Hamtramck ( Detroit , Michigan ) for certain . I enjoy your attention to the detail of separating the stripe at the rear-most door line -- that is often-times overlooked . Keep up with the great work , @iSewen!
  15. Looks like Alpine Green to me . Readily available in aerosol .
  16. Many , many , many years ago --at least 30 years ago-- there was a Camel Spider Beige 1973 Dart Sport in the local pick-a-part ; it was conspicuous by its appearance -- no one paid attention to what by all outward appearances was likely another 225 or 318 powered grandma car... ...its V.I.N. bespoke of its actual origins : LM29H3B ! It was a sleeper Dart Sport 340 ! No stripes (delete option) ; had deluxe wheel covers ; turn-down exhaust ; bench seat with column shift 727 , rubber mats . I grabbed its air cleaner assembly (rare piece as that pick-a-part used to remove the air cleaners 99% of the time) and its rubber mats (perfect condition , black) . Certainly , a 1975-1976 Dart Sport could be had the same way , but with a 360 .
  17. Second vote for Tamiya's Rubber : Black paint . I believe that it's available in aerosol as well .
  18. The AMT 1970 1/2 Camaro Baldwin-Motion has an LS-7 ?
  19. The 1980 Volare has a 'generic' Chrysler small V8 ( LA series engine ) , which is based upon the same engine in the 1975 Dart Sport (and its predecessors) . It's woefully undersized , appearing like a V6 ; and the Dart's version is back with a manual trans... but has an automatic console . The Volare and its small black / 727 combo are the best bet for that OOB look . Use the air cleaner from the Volare , too (and the brake booster / master cylinder , as the Dart is missing any braking system) . The chassis / suspension in the Volare is unique to that platform ( well , the M-Body and J-Body as well ) with its transverse-mount torsion bars .
  20. And , of course , the Cutlass F-85 convertible , and the pending 4-4-2 hardtop . I watched Chris' [ HPIguy ] last night , and I was salivating ! I agree re: the 50+ demographic and simplicity . There was a time when I was hand-painting gauge numerals using a toothpick on 1/24 & 1/25 scale kits . Now I'm lucky if I don't 'colour out of the lines' when painting an engine ! Haha !
  21. One of my personal favourites --- that Tamiya Dark Yellow is perfect for it , too . Watch the wheelbase side-to-side , as it's off (has been since the 1973 annuals , when the torsion bars were removed from the tooling) . Looking forward to watching this gem come-together !
  22. I don't have a negative thing to say about that beauty ! Heck , even the engine is Turquoise -- spot-on ❤️
  23. I have two of the c.1988 reissue of the MPC 1969 Barracuda ( one from 2004 ; the other from c.2016 ) , but haven't started on them yet . Hopefully Round2 will add the 1967-1968 Barracuda to its "reborn" list , and add the Slant Six and Hemi engines / Torqueflites back into the mix . I love that blue metallic '68/'69 ! How long ago did you build that beauty ?
  24. Tæo , a/k/a 'Love Bug' , a/k/a 'Barn Cat' , couldn't keep-off of "Daddy's Work Area" ( like , "What are you working on up here , Daddy ? Can I help 'organise' it for you ?" ) , so I now have photographic evidence to present to the Barn Cat Business & Relations Bureau !
