Too bad that you couldn't have wet sanded the failed clear , then applied more gloss coat on top of it *instead of* stripping the whole thing . Perhaps the humidity affected the finish ?

AMT 53 F-100
1972coronet replied to Spruslayer's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Love the colour choices ! Beautiful execution ! I haven't seen one of these with the Chrysler 300-esque grille / headlamps in a long time . Triple-stripe white wall tyres are a nice addition , too . -
Other than in Pro Stock , seldom seen . That's the beauty of the modelling world : the only limit is one's imagination (and skills) . The transmission tunnel of the AMT 1971 Duster is quite narrow and shallow . I did a TorqueFlite conversion about 16 years ago (from the AMT 1971 Charger R/T) , and I had to "fudge" it : I trimmed the top of the trans until it fit in the tunnel .

Thank you to all of you whom have taken the time to comment on my '53 F-100 "jalopy" . I was really attempting an exercise in colour balance and contrast here ; dull , but with some brightwork ( chromed generator and oil filtre housing lid ) ; dirty , but with hints of bright colours ( red distributor cap and oil filtre housing , and ; grungy , but still somewhat clean ( the gold dashboard with the lace "paint" on its lower-portion ; the chrome speaker ; the classic 'STP' decal , and ; the two-tone seat in Cockpit Green with Zinc Yellow , and the lace decal continuing the theme from dashboard-to-door-panels-to-top-of-seat ... which I'd failed to photograph before gluing the cab to the floor... ) . Feel free to share photos of 1953-1956 F-100's that you've built or are building ( WIP ) . **ADDENDUM** I'd like to suggest adding Tamiya 'Rubber : Black' to your paint selection if you haven't already . Its finish is absolutely perfect ! Worth every penny !

I'm going to start doing that . So many blemishes that are apparent in these photos that aren't at all noticeable on the actual finished product . Oddly , the super-dark panel lines didn't reveal themselves ; and in some instances , they are darker than in actuality ( e.g. , the dirty air cleaner assembly --- its dirt is actually lighter in person ! ) . This is the first finished-in-primer build that I've done in at least 30 years . My original plan was to paint it Tamiya Gold with Tamiya Pearl Clear ; however , with all of the inherent flaws of a tooling which dates to c.1962 , I "couldn't" give it a nice , glossy finish without all of the inaccessible sink marques popping-out . This is still my number one favourite 1950's F-Series kit , and I'll certainly build another one or five of them .

A few new Round 2 kit coming out ......
1972coronet replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I've never seen the contents of that kit ---- not stock at all ??? **EDIT** Answered my own question . Here's the listing for one at Model Roundup :https://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/amt-2701a.htm -
I seem to remember seeing the Outhouse Sienna coloured "restored" version of the 1965 GTO as early as 1983 . Someone at AMT must've been colour blind during that era . I've built a couple of the 1967 GTO ; both were the c.1983 release ( no stock wheels or tyres ) . Last time I had the 1972 GTO was back in 1981 . I found it to be a box of used cat litter ( I was 11 years old ) then , and I've not even considered it since . Now , where's that 1970 Ram Air IV GTO we've all been waiting for ?

The horrid '65 GTO , the '67 GTO , and '72 GTO tooling need to be demolished by a drone-strike . Same goes for the '69 Camaro --- both iterations .

My first completion of 2020 ! Actually , first completion in too many years ! AMT 1953 F-100 , box stock *except* for the tyres ( Parts Pack with the thinner white wall , which is period-correct for an early 60's vehicle ) . Primer is Hot Road Grey ; wheels are the stock steelies , painted Krylon Chrome with Tamiya Black Panel Line Accent . Interior features instrument 'decal' by Best ( I accidentally Mod Podge'd it over the kit's clustre , when I meant to hollow-out the kit clustre and inset the 'decal' , then flow some Mod Podge in for a dimensional effect... GRR ! ) . Interior paint is Tamiya Cockpit Green and Testors Zinc Yellow with a lace decal inset from the Donk version of the 1970 Chevelle . Dash is Tamiya Gold Leaf over Testors Zinc Yellow base ; same decal from the aforementioned Chevelle ; Molotow chrome highlights . 'STP' decal is from the kit's sheet . Steering column and wheel are Tamiya Gloss Black ; floor is Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black spray over Hot Rod Grey Primer . I obviously used the phone/ radio and the accompanying speaker from the kit ( antenna was added after I snapped the photos ) . I had to wing-it with the tail lamps . I used the kit's chromed "push-bars" for lamps ; Tamiya Clear Red ( 35 year old paint that's still good ! ) with Molotow surround / upper-embellishment . The kit's club plaque is the de facto licence plate . The kit's Flatty-8 is painted a mixture of Tamiya Lemon Yellow with Cockpit Green mixed in a 50/50 ratio . Air cleaner is Testors Zinc Yellow ; Tamiya Flat Red for the distributor cap and the oil filtre housing . Molotow chrome on the oil filtre housing lid , and on the generator . Then the whole shebang was washed with Tamiya Panel Line Accent Dark Grey and Black . I built this to resemble a "retired" custom pickup which was pressed into service as a work truck ( hence the primer , and the somewhat customised interior ) . Enjoy ! Critiques welcome as well as accolades !

1/25 AMT 1964 Olds Cutlass F85 Convertible
1972coronet replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for highlighting @tim boyd's response , as he outright says : " The project involves a newly tooled body, patterned off the original annual kit, that matches up with the rest of the original kit tool. The body is not a modification of the Streaker funny car body, it is all-new tooling. ". -
Except for the 1966 D-Dart ( 275hp 273 ; 4-speed ; 4.89 geared 8 3/4 ; Doug's Headers , etc. ) , which was a bit of a bust as D/Stock was a moving target . Some years ago --close to 30 years-- I saw photographic evidence of a '66 Coronet coupe with a 'WO21' identification number ; its destination was marked as "Dealer Drive" .

The original Cooter's Tow Truck was based on the 1972 C10 annual ; it was released in c.1980 . Never having had a copy of the most-recent release of that kit , I can't attest to how it compares with the c.1980 original ---- which last time I had a copy of was back in 1983 (and wishing that the stock bed for a C-Series was included as an option ).

That's right ! That's what it was ! I knew that his hyperactive mannerisms came from an earlier role . Thank you .

1/25 AMT 1964 Olds Cutlass F85 Convertible

Upon further research , it would appear that the Jet-Away ( 2-speed ) wasn't available until mid-1965 in the 4-4-2 ----- but the F-85 / Cutlass would be correct . -

Is that a Jet-Away 2-speed behind that 330 engine ? -
For as long as I can remember ( I've been building for more than 40 years ) , Testors spray paints have taken f-o-r-e-v-e-r to dry ! It's almost as though they're non-catalysed or some thing ! The problem's only gotten worse with time ( at least in the 80's - early 90's the paint was dry enough to handle , etc. , within a week ----- that dry time increased starting in the late 90's , ad seq. ) . The biggest offenders in Testors line are their solid , gloss colours ( black , white , et alia ) , and especially their 60's-70's car colours ( Panther Pink [FM3] being notorious for its ridiculous flash-time ) . Maybe the California paints are different ( VOC regulations ) ? I still employ some Testors paints (bottle and aerosol) for certain applications and / or convenience ( Hemi Orange , etc. ) , but have mostly used Tamiya for many , many years ( one such bottle is 35 years old , and it's just as good as the day I bought it ! ) .

The sardined roof was a "tribute" of sorts to what happened to Jayne Mansfield : "After her death, the NHTSA recommended requiring an underride guard (a strong bar made of steel tubing) on all tractor-trailers; the trucking industry was slow to adopt this change. In America the underride guard is sometimes known as a "Mansfield bar", or an "ICC bumper". Bill Hickman (driver of the Pontiac Grandville in The Seven-Ups ; stunt-coordinator , too) suggested the sardined roof for the end of the chase scene .

Have you considered Tamiya pink primer instead of grey ? Not sure if it's compatible with Scale Finishes colour coats ---- maybe even a light coat of a non-metallic bronze or copper before applying colour coats ?
