Tamiya and testors cement issues
1972coronet replied to jamesG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thank you for the much better answers and explanation , @gman . I , too , recommend that anyone have more than one type of adhesive on hand ( I prefer Tamiya "orange cap" cement , Tamiya "green cap" bonding cement , el-cheapo dollar store "super glue" [ the stuff in the red bottle with a black cap is the best ! ] , the aforementioned Bondene , and finally , Mod Podge gloss-clear ) . Best of luck ! -
Tamiya and testors cement issues

You need cyanoacrylate ( "CA" ) glue and / or Plastruct Bondene ( "cold weld" ) cement . -
Fantastic ! I especially like how you've done the chassis & suspension ---- that Dana 60 applied-to the MPC chassis plate ! Perfect !
-
Not a thing wrong with the 327 ( esp. the L-79 ! ) , as it's a great engine . Thanks for sharing that beauty !
-
The MPC 1969 Barracuda has them . They were added during the c.1989 reissue ; they're not in the original 'annual' kit .

Wonderful example of the 427 Marauder under that bonnet ! Keep up the great work !

1967 Sport Deluxe 396 , please ! Yours is a beauty ! What's under that bonnet ? 327 ?

How is your coordination with your left hand / arm ? Are you thinking of painting with a brush ? Aerosol ? Many advances have come along in 40 years --- you've chosen a great time to return ! If your motor skills are acceptable-to-your-standards , you can use a silver metallic Sharpie for trim and the such --- much easier and cleaner than the old silver paint and tedium of brush painting . I , too , recommend snap-fit kits . Revell has a few lovely subjects in 1/25th scale to choose from : 1957 Chevy , 1963 Corvette , 1970 Chevelle , 1977 Monte Carlo (and maybe others) .

I believe that the '66 was "considered" a Malibu Super Sport ---- or maybe that was a Canadian-only nomenclature (?)
-
Super nice -- fantastic work on the conversion ! I love the seat belts , the body side mouldings , and the overall attention to the nits and twigs . Keeep up the great work !

That's a beauty ! The red stripe balances it all quite nicely . Keep 'em coming !

Oh , how I long for a 1972 Road Runner . Certainly , I have an MPC 1971 R.R. (1987 issue) and the Modelhaus '72 R.R. front and rear bumpers (etc.) , but a newer tooling would be even better . The Monogram-come-Revell 1971 GTX is the perfect basis for a replica of the 1972 440 Six Barrel R.R. that's been exhibited over the last few years .

Me mum would be 87 if she was still here physically . She passed away on 4th October 2005 at 23:45 while I was holding her hand . I feel your pain and anguish . All the best to you and yours , my brother .

Thanks much . I'd given consideration to a strip of 1,200 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper , but I didn't want to sacrifice any ( haha ) . I have the '66 wagon in my collection . I'd entertained the idea of using its chassis / suspension / engine / transmission / differential , and creating a Modified Production wagon ; however , I'd finally settled on replicating the kinds of wagons I'd see around near the beaches when I was young . I may end up adding a couple of rust streaks and spots around the windscreen trim , fuel door , and the side trim ---- not a tonne of rot , just a couple of years' worth of salty air exposure . Thanks again !

Thank you kindly , Mate ! I too am pleased with how the interior looks like vinyl --- that was straight from the aerosol can , over grey primer , no top coat . Thanks again !
-
I'm planning a similar conversion , Mike . Yours will look great ! FWIW , I'm planning on going with a column-shift setup --- bucket seats still .

Hemi in 1:24 scale.

Crankcase Breathers are on the passenger-side 'cover , 1970 model year & later . This was part of the evapouritive emissions ( VOC's ) system which included a sealed fuel vapour vent system . -

The 426 Hemi that's in the 1971 Hemi 'Cuda kits (dating from 1982 !) can be made to look decent . Ditch the kit's carburetors ( I believe that Fireball has AFB carburetors) ; add an oil filtre (same location as your typical Chrysler big block) , and ; add a breather ( passenger-side , 1970-1971 ) and a PVC valve . It'll look nice with those fixes . -

Absolutely . Heck , even their promo-esque chassis have more detail than the same MPC or AMT kits of the era ( *cough* correct brake master cylinder *cough* ) . If there was only one thing I could change , it would be the moulded-on exhaust (never a good thing) . That items must've disappeared with the stock build option , as all of the subsequent Pro Stock (et alia) iterations are sans exhaust ( I won't mention the moulded-on differential... ) . I'm looking forward to gettin' down & dirty with this bad boy ! -
Still have some touch-up work to do . Obviously , the pedals and the shifter boot need paint ( Tamiya Rubber , Black ) . I'd hesitated covering the luggage area ; I considered covering the huge ejection marques with various objects ( fuel can , jack stands , spare tyre , etc. ) , but couldn't find a satisfactory layout , so an "accessory luggage mat" it is . Thanks much for following . All accolades and critiques welcomed .

My latest W.I.P. : the AMT 1965 Chevelle "Surfin' Wagon' . This is the first time I've built one of these ( oddly , I've built many of its El Camino counterparts ) , and I'm enjoying it greatly . It's going to be Tamiya Pure White with Tamiya Medium Blue Metallic interior (see photos of the nearly-completed interior) . I've covered the flooring with black embossing powder ; then primed with Tamiya grey primer ; then colour coats , and ; Tamiya Flat Blue was brushed-over the 'powdered sections --- that gave the surfaces a texture and finish similar to colour-keyed rubber floor mats (yes , I know this is the Malibu trim level , but I wanted a 300 appearance). Without further ado , here's photos of the nearly-complete interior ( dashboard and steering wheel are still being finalised)

@afx , Thanks much for sharing those photos . I linked the listing of the one which I'd purchased . This is possibly the most fun and unique kit in my collection ; a definite favourite . -
