  1. Dad's first car was a1949 Ford coupe , flathead w/ column-shift 3-speed and overdrive . Had it from 1954-1962 , when he sold it and bought a new '62 Comet . Mom's first car was a brand new 1957 Ford Skyliner . She sold it in '60 and moved back home to Pennsylvania (after a 3 years stint in Miami) . In 1963 she bought a new Chevy II 2 door pillard coupe whose only options were a radio (AM only that year) , heater / defogger , and a 4-speed (with the base 4 cylinder !) .
  2. That LA-Series engine certainly appears to be nicer than the stock 318--340-360 that the vans , Duster / Demon / Dart Sport , etc. , engines ! I realise that it's representative of the 355 cube Direct Connection "R" small block , but at least the base block & heads look nice . Not sure what diff / housing that is supposed to represent ... Not a Dana nor is it the Chrysler 8 3/4 . any ideas ? I'll most likely grab one of these kits for its parts contents !
  3. I , too , am awaiting the arrival of the NicKey Camaro ! I've always really , really liked the Cherokee , too ! That plexiglass hood bubble is so cool !
  4. The finest item on the original , 1988-issue was its moulded-onto the windscreen interior rear view mirror ! I built a couple of them back in 1988 , and I honestly don't recall any fitment issues with it . I'm not saying that to come across as contentious to the others' comments / input , but rather out of personal experiences . That kit was a quantum leap in kit development at the time . Separate interior panels , drivetrain installation points , and that extra short block / long block were so ahead of the curve at the time ! Actually , the kit's release was pushed-back an entire year ; it was supposed to be released in 1987 ... ...which was a remarkable year in the realm of modelling .
  5. Super nice Demon 340 ! The two preeminent yellow colours offered by Dodge in 1971 were : FY1 Top Banana (Plymouth called the same colour "Lemon Twist") GY3 Citron Yella (Plymouth called the same colour "Curious Yellow")
  6. ...And then there's this gem , too : http://www.ebay.com/itm/jo-han-fast-eddie-schartman-maverick-pro-stock-/121780561793?hash=item1c5aafe781
  7. I like the mention of the GMC Sprint SP-1 ! Rarely see that one in ink , let alone in person .
  8. If you could get the trees at Franklin Park in some of your photos , that would be great
  9. Very cool ! The Tijuana Taxi ! 351-C powered beauty ; love the Spyders (rear) and Flys (front) !~
  10. Excellent ! Thanks for the additional photos , too . That speedometre looks perfect ! Good call on scalling-down an actual photo . I remember when I built the 1986 reissue of this excellent kit ; I was 16 years old , and had a rock-steady hand . I painted the speedo with a gloss black background , then tediously hand-painted the numbers (!!) . Last one I built --around 11 years ago-- I added BMF to the speedo , then painted Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black , then rubbed the numbers off with a toothpick . I love those Flatties ! While I'm not up on each years' unique changes , I do recognise that yours are painted to reflect their appliactions ( truck , passenger car , etc. ) . Keep 'em coming , Tulio !
  11. Tulio knocks another home run right out of the park ! That's thee finest factory stock 1953 F-100 I've seen in all of my 45 years ! I have a couple of questions for you , Tulio : 1.) How did the rest of the interior come along ? I know that that kit is void of any detail ... ( that dashboard and gauge clustre looks great !! ) 2.) The drip trough embellishment : is that "correct" for a base model ? Looks great but "out of place" due to the trim level (e.g. , standard grille) 3.) What medium did you employ to replicate the windscreen weather stripping ? Now , if only some-one would make some conversion parts for this kit ; 1954 and 1955 conversions would be awesome !
  12. That's like the 1972 Duster annual from MPC : Arlen Vanke livery , including "Hemi" decals for the hood , but the kit has only one engine : 340 ! Wasn't it the 1968 annual Barracuda that had the 225 Slant and 426 Hemi as its engine choices ? Didn't the 1969 annual have the 383 ?
  13. Perhaps the best thing about D.E.F. (which is synthesised cow urine) is its containers ! Lots of landfill waste is created by the stupid boxes / containers for that non-sense , which , in my mind , negates its short term emissions "benefits" ...
  14. Very cool project ! I've seen videos of "1:1" swaps similar to this ; one of which was a 1976 GMC which received a 3-53 / H.D. truck trans . You going to paint that engine Alpine Green ?
  15. Excellent source for the correct interior : http://www.hartspartsresin.com/resin-parts-list/conversions
  16. I've seen V6W , at least on the Super Bee models (WM21 & WM23) . The hood blackout and the R/T/'s door "gills" , however , were X9 Black only .
  17. I'm thinking about getting the Monogram 1970 Buick GS 455 kit , and am wondering about the most-recent reissue ; primarily , does it have decals for the gauges and other small parts ? Any-thing to look out for with respect to its construction (i.e. , any parts need massaged / tinkered with) ?
  18. This kit dates back 37 years ( !! ) . I'm surprised at the lack of BFG's , as it seemed that MPC was using them almost exclusively starting in c.1982 (yes , this kit's been reissued since its 1978 debut) , correct or otherwise (e.g. , 1984 Corvette with BFG's ?!? No.Way.) If you don't want for those Motor Wheels Spyders (the custom wheels) , I'll gladly take 'em off your hands .
  19. Hammond B3 !
  20. Looks "Super" ! How's that Backlight ( colloq. , "rear window" ) trim to work with ? Would appear much easier versus trying to foil that Flying Buttress tunnel !
  21. 1969 Dart GTS with a 496" (440 based ; Kellogg NASCAR stroke crank) , Art Carr 727 with full manual valve body , 8.75" with 3.23 Sure Grip . An incredible thirst for 105+ octane Ethyl . That car was obnoxiously loud ! The tyres would bark , even if you "short-shifted" the trans . Parallel parking was no small feat , even with 14x5" steel wheels and 16:1 manual steering ! Best trip in that oxidised green cop stopper was to Fashion Island in Newport Beach ! Ritzy area , with hardly a car older than 3 years of age being seen ; the Dart stood out like a sore thumb ! HA HA HA !! The exhaust set-off every car alarm in the parking lot . My favourite way of launching that car was to brake-rev it against its 3,000 RPM converter , and then let-off the brake while nailing the loud pedal .
  22. far fewer 1971's were built ; 11 total : 7 for U.S. destinations , 2 for Canadian consumption , and 2 exports to france . Surprisingly all of them are accounted for (!!) . The exports are special in that , aside from their export status , they were both the first one built ( GA4 Winchester Grey 4-speed ) and the last one built ( GW1 Sno-White automatic ) .
  23. You really polished that outdated "organic compound" of a kit , Tulio ! This kit's origins date to 1967 , as an MPC 1968 Charger R/T annual . It was updated to 1969 cosmetics (new upholstery pattern ; new grille ; new tail lamps ; new side markers) , and again in 1970 ( new front fenders / bumper / grille ; and new upholstery pattern , if I remember correctly . New-for-1970 "Rallye Wheels" replaced the previous years' wheels) . I don't remember when the backlight ( colloquially , "Rear Window" ) was changed to the 500 / Daytona style , but it certainly stuck around during the Dukes of Hazzard era of c.1979 . I built one of the (dreadful) fast & furious "1970" kits for a friend about 12 years ago . I added the brake booster / master cylinder from the parts bin (to replace the incorrect 1966-style brake master cylinder) .
  24. Found this photo of a sweet 1958-1959 Ranchero Kustom . I would have posted it under a preexisting thread regarding Rancheros , but I couldn't find it ...
  25. Local suppliers also played a role in what primer(s) were employed . For an instance : Chrysler's Los Angeles Plant (City of Commerce) employed a black primer , which was an exclusive to that plant .
