I finally got around to buying the AMT 1976 Gremlin and am wanting to build it to represent a homegrown race car ; however , I don't know just what class to build it for . I'm wanting to build it as a Modified Production , but am not sure if it's conducive of that class ; and if it *is* , then what would a 304 / 360 with auto qualify as (e.g. , C/MP , D/MP , or ??? ) . Would a more-realistic approach be to build it as a Super Stock ( SS/KA ?) or a "Stock" ( J/SA ?) car ? Thanks for your replies

Nice detail work , Dominik ! These 2-door "B-Body" Monaco and Fury (and their 4-door counterparts) actually were used by some states' highway patrol agencies in the mid-late 70's ( Montana and Wyoming , and perhaps others ) . They were powered by a 400 (~6.5 litre) engine which put out ~255-to-265 horsepower ; this was backed by a heavy duty automatic ; they were sans emissions controls , as they instead had a computerised engine management system ( "Electronic Lean Burn" ) . Again , nice work !

Another tasty timepiece , holmes !

Super nice 'scraper ! With the colourscheme you've chosen , reminds me of how popular Earth tones were back when I was a kid ; lots of browns and whatnot on 'riders back in the 70's in Whittier / Los Angeles . Great build , bradah !

WOW !!! That is gorgeous beyond description !! Excellent craftsmanship !!

These photos of engines built by our fellow hobbiests seem to decrust your opinion . However , I absolutely admit that in the 1:1 realm , that 94% or better of Chevy engines seem to follow the same cookie cutter formula (although , the same could be applied to all engines these days ... *yawn* ) . Nice work on those Chevy powerplants , guys !

Super Gremlin ! That colour is spot-on for a Gremlin ; lots of greens around in the 70's . *as a side note --and it's no reflection on your build whatsoever-- I hope that Round2 doesn't become disgruntled over the brow-beating their reissues have received ! At least these reissues are affordable when compared to their ebay compadres !*

Nice build ! Sucks about that 'A' Pillar ;been there before ! I wish that someone would make a Hurst Dual-Gate shifter / console as a separate item ... could sure use 'em in the 1968 Hemi Dart , or any other 60's-70's Muscle Car !

I recognise that a couple of members here have recently purchased the reissued Phantom Van , the old AMT 1976 E-150 , and I'm looking for pics of the kit's contents . Any-one have a link to photos of the contents ? I'm pining to get one or more of this kit ! I had it when I was a kid (back when it was new !) and have wanted one for years . Thanks !

Quite nice build , Volvoman ! I'm glad to see that you enjoyed your holiday here in the U.S. ( you guys and your absolute months of time off ! ) . Have you considered finding the elusive Tropicana font online via their website ? You could certainly utilise that as a base for a photocopy ; you could then use the "make your own" decal sets (blank waterslide decal paper for use with an InkJet printer) and print off as many as you desire .

A Tribute to my First Car I've ever Bought! My 1982 Ford EXP
1972coronet replied to TheCat's topic in Model Cars
That's probably the cleanest EXP I've seen in probably 20 years ! That MPC even kitted this oddity is an interesting ode to the 80's ! Been wanting to build one of these myself ... Here's another EXP ; one which I'm reminded of every time I've seen one of these cars : -
That's cool ! Good call on that ; something that's lacking with most --if not all-- resin transkits , etc .I didn't know that translucent-casting was *possible* (not that I'm questioning your skills and abilities) . I'm particularly interested in this , as I've been propositioned by Missing Link to master a rear bumper for a 1972 Road Runner (my suggestion ; Link's "challenge" for me to master my proposal ) based upon the Monogram 24th scale '71 GTX , ostensibly for a conversion to a '72 model . This'll be my first attempt as such an undertaking ! Never-the-less , I want to master the tail lamp lenses as well , as separate parts . My goal is to have them cast in clear resin (or whatever material) , so that they can be painted red , while being able to keep the backup portion in clear (silver or white painted lamps just don't cut it in my opinion ...) . I'm also considering making the "universal" 1972 & later Chrysler side marker lamp lenses ; and knowing that ambre , red , etc. , casting are proven possible , just makes that potential project *that* much more appealing . A stock version would be much welcomed !

I , too , am looking forward to watching this gauntlet-of-a-project come together .! That's one great looking finish cast you've accomplished there ; and , all of those extras are gorgeous ( is that a strip of translucent ambre I see there , for replicating the on-again/off-again ambre turn signals ?!? LOVE IT ! ) . I'd like to see a streetable build of this gem ... vintage Pro Stock scoop with a 351W / C4 / 9" combo , *stock* interior , and other vintage pieces .

Man oh man that's a sweet looking AMC setup !! Just look at its contents ; "generic" AMC V8 ; Borg-Warner 4 speeds ; 727 Torque-Command 8 ; Tunnel Ram intake ; Cross Ram intake ... NICE !!

Detroit Diesel 8V-71s and 8V-92s
1972coronet replied to cavejohnson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
BigBad - From what I understand , the smaller series (the 53-Series) was available in Chevrolet's HD tractors , whereas the larger (71-Series) was what GMC's HD tractors received . Of course these engines were available in other manufacture's tractors ; I know that Dodge used them along with Cummins . The 4V-71 was the truck's owner's claim . Given the application (light duty pickup) , a V-Four would be about right , as an inline would be too long . Let me see if I can find the video of the pickup in question . -
Detroit Diesel 8V-71s and 8V-92s
1972coronet replied to cavejohnson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hardly any-one believes me when I mention that 2-stroke diesel engines were made ! The 53-Series (Chevrolet) , the 71-Series (GMC) , ad seq. , were definitely *unique* . CaveJohnson - I've seen videos of light duty pickups with Detroits in them ; a 3-53 turbo / 8 speed in a '76 GMC ; a 4V-71 in an F-250 ; and a couple of others . Wasn't their lubrication arrangement called Total-Loss Oiling ? -
That's exactly why the Edesel was designed as "an Oldsmobile sucking a Lemon" (or so I've heard...).
-
Through "six-degrees-of-separation" I found the Tower Hobbies site . It was there where I found that the MPC-come-ERTL Oldsmobile 4-4-2 / Hurst is schedulled for re-release. I hope that the Olds is the version with the 4-speed or TH400 option , and the Hurst Dual-Gate shifter (yes , that shifter will find its way into my planned '68 Hurst-Hemi Dart build). Can any-one provide a link or some photos of the contents of these kits?

I absolutely love Peugeot's and Renault's rallye cars (I'll take me an R5 , please !) , and yours is looking great thusfar ! A friend of mine has an '86 205 GTI , one of *maybe* 2 in the U.S. ; it's a "Grey Market" import . It's a sweet little thing . Too bad that Peugeot didn't import the 205 , as I'm certain that it would've sold A LOT of them . Will be following your build
-
Zenrat - That is a gorgeous Monaco ! Its inclusion of a Crossram Race Hemi was a plesent surprise to me , as I was expecting to find a de rigur Chrysler 'B' or 'RB' in the boiler room ! Your attention to the panel lines in spot-on ; your colour choice is perfect for that era ; and that vinyl top is righteous !

75/76 coronet or fury conversion parts?
1972coronet replied to tvandmoviecars's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I agree witht his statement as well . Although I've only bought one product from him ( Missing Link Resins' excellent '69-'75 Dodge hubcaps) , I can attest to Kevin's and Missing Link's customer service ; it's bar none ! I got my parts in less than a week after he received my payment .
