Jim, that wouldn't be a bad idea since I'm painting the new place right now. I could sacrafice a few stir sticks to the gods of plastic.

Thanks for all the knarley info. I do like the idea of making my own with R&M as a back up plan. I was looking for these for the '48 woody.

I know it was brought up a few times before, but who sells scale surf boards? Is there a reason caster that I can hang ten with? Maybe a kit that has spent too much time at the beach?

Jacen was nice enough to set me straight on the white used on Herbie. Need to get more paint. The white I bought would be good for my dad's white '68, but not this car. Need some white pearl for Herbie.

Ah, another build I just can't pass up. I'll go shopping and get what I need for this. It sounds like a lot of fun.

In my warped mind, I'm thinking of trying PE parts from MCG for the '71 Charger. For a semi beginer, how hard is it to use PE grilles and other assorted pieces? Also, any suggestions on making bumper guards...?

I found the stripes for Herbie. Why is it everytime I order something that needs to be mailed that I can't get the Jeopardy theme song out of my mind?

Who's excited or is it just me?

Having grown up as a teenager with the lumps of plastic that passed as a model car 35 years ago, I was pleasantly surprised when Monogram brought out the '59 Eldorado and Impala. To me that was a big change in the hobby and I consider almost every new release since then to being part of the golden age. A few of the older reissues like the Manx is just a fantastic bonus. As for the ice patrol, i'd be more interested in that kit for the snowmobile. -
AMT 1962 Buick Electra 225 Question
Swifster replied to regular guy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've looked at this kit a few times at the store, but my attention went to something else. I'll have to take another look at this car. -
Sorry Robert, I haven't been on too much lately. I was up in Detroit for Christmas. I don't get up to JAX too often but I do get there. I didn't get your PM.

2013 Dodge Dart !
Swifster replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
After the Benz-Chrysler 'merger' was finalized, Chrysler was Daimler's savior. MB was the BIG drain. Chrysler profits from the very late 90's and early 2000's saved Daimler's bacon. In return, Daimler basically tried to bury Chrysler. I could win the lottery tomorrow and the only car I'd never buy is a Daimler-Benz product. -
In but no decision on a vehicle...

Dodge Charger Police Car
Swifster replied to Swifster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks guys!!! Merry Christmas! -
So I'm at a hobby shop and find 5 or so different versions (box art) of the Charger squad car. Here's my questions. 1) Does the kit come with multiple decals for the different versions, or just for the jurisdiction that's on the car on the box? They had one Florida State Police car. Do I need a FHP kit to get the correct decals. 2) As the light bar for the FHP (at least near me) is incorrect, am I right the car comes with different light bars, or do I need an Illinois car for the correct lights? As always, any help is appreciated...

I'm currently living in Florida, but I was born and raised in St. Clair Shores and I'm visiting my folks for Christmas in Sterling Heights. I stopped at Whistle Stop Hobby Shop in the Shores on Tuesday and almost cried because of how well supplied it is. Nothing I've seen (so far) in Florida even compares. Great Lakes Hobby in Sterling Heights is the same way.

I'm in Lakeland in the middle of the state. No hurricane worries here... It's also the Spring Training home of the 2012 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers. It's nice being 5 minutes from the ball park.

I have a couple of 50's cars and I might wait until the '55 300 arrives. No better decade for interesting material.

I've never tried automotive colors for a model built. Found some Krylon white for the bug. While visiting my parents, I also found my Porsche engine and it's from the Carerra kit (DOHC) so I'm not sure if I'm going the Porsche route. May try Webers on the VW engine. Again, Herbie had quite a few engines in him. Still looking for Buddy Hacket. I may make two if I can find another bug in the next week. One normal and the other in 'halves'....

Bought the paint for the '71 Charger R/T while I'm here in Detroit. It's great that Testors brought out some factory colors for some Mopars. Makes it easy not having to match colors. I'm going to rattle can this one as I learn how to use my airbrush.

Was a 69 Javelin ever kitted?
Swifster replied to Sport Suburban's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I always liked the Javelin better than the AMX. I'd love to see a new Javelin but doubt that's in the cards. I guess I'll just keep an eye out for one if I hit a show..
