I'm sure Rupert knows what he's doing but he seems a little...squirrely.

Dr.Cranky's 3 day weekend build #2 .Feb 18,19 & 20 th

This looks like fun. I might try this. It completely depends on work towards the end of the week. I have a '67 Comet Cyclone that I barely started. If I can play, this will be the project. -
finished my 1 to 1 Schwinn Sting Ray!

I liked those bikes along with the bikes with 'big & littles'. I always wanted a bike with that shifter, but mom got me a Huffy instead. -

Model Paint - Shelf Life?
Swifster replied to Swifster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks everyone. This is all encouraging. Found a few older unbuilt kits too. It was like opening a little treasure chest. -
So I've been going thru a bunch of old boxes and came across one filled with Testors and Tamiya paints, both bottle and spray cans. A few had been opened at one time and others never opened. Found lots of primer and Tamiyas Semi-Gloss black spray cans. This box has been sitting for about 20 years. How good is this stuff? Some is the Metalizer jar paints (unopened). Any chance this stuff is useable?

Yes. It's moulded into the hood insulator. The small circles are the clips to hold the insulator in place. -
Question about AAR Cudas
Swifster replied to imatt88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Challenger and Barracuda don't share too many parts. The Challenger actually has a longer wheelbase. The AAR stands for All Ammerican Racers which was Dan Gurney's racing team. The series both cars ran in was Trans Am. The cars sold to the public used the same drivetrain. Both used the 340 6-pack engine with choice of 4-speed or automatic. Why are the exhaust systems different? The Challenger is longer. That would be the big inaccuracy if building a Barracuda. The front and rear suspensions are the same. -
Still a T-Bird. That has to be around '98 or '99. I had a friend who was Jeff Burton's sponsor girl at the time.

I would guess we could add the '48 Ford Woody to that list. At least that's how I'm making mine...

I worked 7 years in Indy Car as a corner worker and black flagger. This was between 1991 and 1997. It removed any hero worship I may have had. I've met Rick Mears (probably the only hero I have just because he is soooooooo nice), the Andretti's, Roger Penske, Paul Newman, Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace, Danny Sullivan, etc. Like any portion of the human race, you have some really nice people and some real jerks. The jerks ruin it for everything. I very rarely seek autographs from anyone. I'm a big baseball fan (Tigers) and I've met a few players including Al Kaline. The same holds true for them. I save my picture taking for being with friends or going to 'events'. I go to baseball games and I may get pictures of the players as part of the event, but I don't bother seeking out autographs afterward.

MPG estimates vs. reality
Swifster replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When cars are tested for mileage, they are run at a standard. This can be 55 MPH or 65 MPH and you may get the advertised mileage. You're not going to get it at 70 or 75 MPH. I've exceeded the listed 32 MPG in my Caliber but it was at 60-65 MPH and I got 33 MPG. She probably won on default when no one from Honda showed up. -
What did you work on/build while watching the 24 hours of Daytona?
Swifster replied to surfjunke's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Paperwork on two claims I'm dealing with. A '68 AMC American 440 wagon (total loss) and a '63 Buick Riviera. -

Spoiled and Depressed
Swifster replied to Swifster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't been to Phil's yet. I stopped at Hobby Land here in Lakeland to buy paint and just left pissed off. Lots of empty bins and those that were there where in the wrong places. I ended up going to Hobby Lobby. Back to depressing... -
Testors 'Panther Pink' spray bomb
Swifster replied to Swifster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
OK, I'll give it a shot over white primer. The color on Casey's Road Runner looks just right. I guess the worst than happens is I strip it and redo with the magenta if it doesn't look right. Oh, and Scott, tell your daughter your daughter she did a great job. I hope I live up to HER example. -

Swifster replied to Swifster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's the color I meant. Maybe I need some of the magenta to check/compare. -
I'm aware where the engine was designed. You left out Mitsubishi as this is also the same engine as the Lancer. Chrysler was no where close to having replacement products (except for the Grand Cherokee/Durango). Ceberus put little to no money in product. MB did no favors either. Would you have brought out the Caliber? It was uncompetitive when it hit the market. CFhrysler would have been better off continuing the Neon for the last 6 years. That car was an MB production. Funny how the ball joints in Charger/300/Challengers last longer than 20,000 miles after Fiat management started investing. As for the Hyundai, I asked about the Excel. Both Kia and Hyundai built nothing but garbage when they started here. You can lay the Chrysler portion of the bailout right at Mercedes feet. GM was a complete management meltdown. No other way to explain the demise of Oldsmobile and Pontiac. Buy Saab didn't help them either.
