  1. I wasn't sure if they were paint chips or printed.
  2. How accurate are the old factory color chip sheets? I know colors can change over time but were these accurate to the actual paint when new?
  3. This is an AMT '55 Chevy I painted for a friend to use as a slot car but I really like how this one came out.
  4. Beautiful job in this kit! What paint/color did you use on the body?
  5. Do you spray first spray the plastic with a regular non self-etching primer before spraying the Duplicolor self-etching primer? I would think that self-etching primer would attack the plastic but I could be wrong.
  6. Is a sealer necessary or helpful when spraying a plastic body with automotive basecoat urethane? Duplicolor makes a Primer-Sealer. Is this good for helping to prevent the basecoat urethane from eating through the primer and plastic? If sealer is used over primer should more primer be sprayed over the sealer?

WOW! The paint is flawless! Beautiful build!
  8. Real nice looking General Lee! I built one of these a while ago and it's a very nice kit, much better than how the old glue kit is now.
  9. Thanks for the information. I never saw light gray primer but I'm sure they used all shades and colors of primer back then.
  10. Medium to dark gray sounds about right for a Chevy. I never saw light gray primer on a Chevy. That's usually a Chrysler color.
  11. Is it a light, medium or dark gray primer?
  12. Now I'm trying to figure out what color primer should be under Autumn Gold.
  13. So the body color had no effect on what color primer was used?
  14. Did the body color affect what color primer was used or was the primer color dependent on what plant they were built in? I'm painting an AMT 1970 Chevelle in Autumn Gold code 58 which is a 1970 Chevelle color. Would gold have a gray primer or red?
  15. Is it original paint on the underside of the hood?
  16. Does anyone know how the underside of a 1970 Chevelle's hood was painted from the factory? Was it painted the body color or black? I've seen pictures of it painted both ways.
  17. The AMT kit's body isn't all that bad. Other than the side bulges the overall shape looks good. This build above by Can-Con shows how good this kit can look with a bit of work to the sides. Can-Con did an excellent job modifying the sides. The Monogram is nice but the roof is a bit too high and not sloped right and the front headlight area is too flat. The Revell snap kit's roof is too rounded. Overall I like the AMT body best.
  18. I think the stance looks great! Beautiful build!
  19. Excellent job on the sides! It's a beautiful build!
  20. Recently Jim H. posted pictures of the incorrect and correct bodies side by side. Maybe he can give some insight as to the accuracy of the lower half of the body.
  21. I just sprayed the sample on a small piece of styrene so it wasn't obvious if it was less hot. Mine and your friend Rob turned me on to Gunze lacquers and thinner. I also use Gunze Mr. Super Clear that I decant and add some Mr. Leveling thinner in my airbrush. The Mr. Leveling thinner worked perfectly in the PPG lacquer. I'm glad it worked since I didn't want to use automotive lacquer thinner. The PPG lacquer is already a hot paint.
  22. I sprayed a sample of Bob's Paint today and thinned it with Gunze Mr. Leveling Thinner. It worked nicely. I didn't think Gunze thinner was strong enough for PPG auto lacquer but it works. Does the Gunze thinner make the PPG lacquer less 'hot'? I also sprayed a sample with Rust-Oleum lacquer thinner that I use to clean the airbrush and it didn't spray as smooth or as glossy.
  23. Bob, The color on the Porsche 911 Carrera looks great! The finish looks very smooth. I didn't think Gunze thinner would be hot enough to work in automotive lacquer. I have Gunze Mr. Leveling Thinner so I'll give it a try.
  24. Bill, That looks great! Did the epoxy yellow over time?
  25. I'm currently finishing an AMT Ford Econoline van. The only thing I haven't worked out is the interior rear view mirror. On the real Econoline van the interior rear view mirror is mounted on the inside of the windshield. Has anyone mounted a mirror on a windshield in a model car/van? If so what type of glue works best? Any pictures?
