I built these 2 Jeeps as the Laser Jeeps used by the alien Visitors on the 1984 TV show 'V'. These are Monogram Jeep CJ7's. These models represent a 1977 Jeep with the front roll bar loop mounted straight up and on top of the wheel wells. The Jeeps used on the show were from the early 80's with the roll bar main loop slanted back with a slight curve in the middle of the top and go down to the floor. I scratch built the roll bars using 2mm rod. I also scratch built the handles above the glove compartment doors and the ignition coils. The distributors are pre-wired from MADD. The laser cannons are scratch built using mostly various styrene tubes and rod. I posted some pictures here in the TV and movie car thread but these are updated with the side mirrors attached and I included a couple of progress pictures. I'll be keeping 1 and the other is going to a friend.

A friend made those a while ago.

Great job on this one Anthony! Thanks for starting this thread.

Thanks Anthony! The only difference between the Eckler and Riviera wheels is the the Riviera wheels have the built in posts for the axles. Apparently the Riviera doesn't have wheel backs. I just cut the posts off and filed the rear of the wheels down to fit with the MPC wheel backs and tires. I started with an MPC General Lee kit but I spliced in parts from a Revell '69 Charger chassis and it has the full front and rear Revell suspension and rear end. I also used the Revell firewall and radiator/support. I have a couple of the Revell '69 Charger kits that I plan on building as LEE 1 and LEE 3(2 of the original Georgia General Lees). The Revell kit builds up real nice but I first wanted to see what I could do with the MPC kits.

Thanks Jeremy! A friend made me the decals a while ago. The early Georgia General Lees with the cross flags are my favorite look for the car. The early cars had the darker saddle tan interiors and the smaller front push bar. I didn't like the later cars as much with the light cream interiors.

Thanks Bill! V is one of my all time favorite shows. I actually built 2 of the laser Jeeps. One is mine and the other is going to someone else.

Here's mine. Polar Lights Herbie The Love Bug Polar Lights Mystery Machine MPC General Lee MPC Snap General Lee Laser Jeep from the 1985 TV show 'V'

Here's 2 General Lees I built. The General in the first 4 pictures is an MPC glue kit modified with parts from a Revell '69 Charger. It's painted Hugger Orange. The General in the next 4 pictures is an MPC snap kit painted 1975 Corvette Flame Red. Both cars have wheels from an AMT '69 Riviera. The last picture of both cars together shows the difference between the 2 colors.

It would be cool or a '79 Ford LTD Country Squire would be nice too.

Does anyone know when this one is being released?
-
I'm looking forward to seeing this one come together.

Jim, This looks incredible! The chassis and engine compartment look like a real Charger's. Mike.

Thanks Steve! I actually ordered a can of TS-67 and it came today. It's the color I'm looking for. It's maybe a hair on the cool side of neutral. I like the color.

Thanks Matthijs!

It's hard to tell from the cap on the can but I appreciate that. Some of Tamiya's caps don't match at all. The cap on the TS-32 Haze Grey is way off.
-
I'll look at those other colors mentioned. Is Tamiya TS-67 a dark color?

Has anyone used Tamiya TS-67 IJN Gray? Is it a warm, neutral or cool gray color? I'm looking for a cool gray color?

Chrome plating on modified parts?
crowe-t replied to crowe-t's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Robert at Chrometech said to sprat Testors Wet Look Clear on the modified bumper. In my experience Wet Look Clear or any clear lacquer does not lay down glass smooth out of the spray can. -
I have a part I modified and will have chrome plated. I'll polish it with micromesh cloths and plastic polish. I was told to spray Testors Wet Look Clear on it. In the past when I used Testors Wet Look Clear on a car body I had to polish out the slight orange peel. Will spraying a small part not have any orange peel? Is it necessary to spray a clear lacquer over the part before sending it to be chrome plated? Has anyone had modified parts chrome plated?

Gluing acrylic rod to resin?
crowe-t replied to crowe-t's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I found this stuff from Bob Smith Industries. It's odorless CA. I contacted them and they said it works on clear acrylic, clear acetate and clear styrene and won't fog them. http://www.bsi-inc.com/hardware/super_gold_plus.html
