Seems like I remember something like this in the 80s as well. IIRC, I had sent off for a kit during a transition with Ertl. I remember sending a few letters because it was taking weeks longer than normal to get my free kit.

The "Doc Hollywood" Porsche at the Planet Hollywood in Myrtle Beach is definitely a gutted mock up. I can't imagine they would try to hang a perfectly good Merc from the ceiling of a restaurant. This one has to be gutted too. Besides, didn't the movie car have an open hood scoop? -
Is that a flip/flop paint? It looks green at some angles and blue at others.

Looking sweet. I have a question though. This is the first time I have noticed. Does this kit have a carpeted dash pad cover molded in?

Those T&R inserts are crazy! If I tried that, I'd have gaps and overlays and everything. That's some excellent craftsmanship!

That's an awful nice dashboard for this being your third model. I have to say you definitely seem to be a natural.

This is the first time I have opened this build thread. I was wandering why you didn't just use the door handles off the spare cab. But then I started thinking. Now you have a spare you can make into a regular cab! I'm not a four wheel drive guy but, I am working on one of these right now. And I must say you are doing quite a nice job on this one so far.

Looks pretty good. Since you covered the crack, I guess you are keeping the color. Good thing because it suits the car IMO. Im glad you indicated what you were using in the middle of the grille. Next time I am in the hobby shop, I think I am going to try getting some of that brass rod and try my hand at Alclad to see if I can make some billet for a couple trucks.

I can't remember what kit this is but, i am pretty sure this is a Lexus. I will try to double check and let you know for sure. Anyway, I like these two cars. Will be cool seeing them built up. EDIT I am pretty sure it is a variant of this Toyota kit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aoshima-48139-Toyota-Aristo-JZS161-D-A-D-1-24-scale-kit-/321201459173?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item4ac9194fe5

Looks good so far. I must say you are dedicated. And like you said, it is cool that you are taking your time on this one. You certainly want to make sure your studies come first.

My school bus never looked like this!

I happen to like that dragging sound...along with the resulting spark shower. JK You know a mini trucker had to rib ya on that one. This is one cool ride. I wish they had they back in my day. -

Woah! I wasn't diggin' the color until I saw it outside. That's impressive! You got me thinkin' of that color for a 56 Nomad custom I am working on. -

Cool ride. I wouldn't drive it! I mean, I wouldn't mind being seen in it if it were 1:1. I just wouldn't want to have to get a tetinus (SP?) shot if I got cut on it. Nice Weathering. (Insert thumbs up smiley) -

Ah ha! Found it! I didn't realize it went Under Glass over the weekend...probably cause that's about the only time I am not on. Anyway, lookin' good man. Don't worry about the "rookie mistakes" as you call them. Just keep on learning as you go. Trust me, I have been building models for over 30 years and I still make plenty of mistakes. We all make them. Some are just going to be slips where we already know better and some are going to teach us better for the future. -
Johnny, if you are coming down US 23S, then this one is at the Coal Run area (AKA Pikeville's north end) of Pike County. Bob Evan's and Reno's will be on the right and Autozone will be on the left. Turn left at the light and it's about a 1/4 mile on the side road.

Box Art historians, what's going on here ?

WUT???? Yeah, this must have bit a little before my time or something. -
Why not these things

Maybe if they would just leave two adjoining sides of the box blank instead of the same pictures on the other sides, they could afford to put that ink money somewhere else. Not up on my soapbox or anything but, it is a thought. -
I saw this outside a local steakhouse yesterday. So, I don't exactly have any back story on this one or even know what the heck it really is. I just thought I'd post it here since it's a 1:1 and would make a really cool model. I know I am probably gonna get slammed for the term "rat" but, it sure fit the bill to me and I thought it was neat.

I never understood this. Although I know it is part of their reasoning. But do they pay per use? The reason I ask is, they have no problem paying Goodyear and tons of other companies to put their logo on NASCAR and other racing kits but, not on tires. And my two cents, I'd like to see some actual rubber tires in kits. Seems to me that would be most realistic. -
I don't know if Magic Mart is just a regional thing but, we have them in eastern Kentucky. I was in my closest location today and decided to see what kits they had. When I got to the model rack, I saw a manager and another employee with almost all the kits off the shelf and in the floor. The manager looked at me and told me they were reducing the price of all kits. Now, knowing that a majority of non-specialty stores don't carry models, my first thought was, "Oh great, not another store getting rid of kits. So, I decided to ask the manager if they were trying to clear out the inventory because they were going to stop selling them. To my surprise, he answered, "Nope, just marking down the prices." I find that this was a very nice gesture from this company. Not only are they keeping kits, but, they are making them more affordable. Most of them were $12.99-$14.99. And with the holidays coming up, along with colder weather, I thought this was really considerate. It gets models closer to the prices they were when I was growing up, and makes it nice for those cold winter days. I know that they don't have the world's hugest display, and that they probably aren't national. It is still something worthy of honorable mention in these times.
