Hobbytowns and Hobby Land are undoubtedly willing to carry Star Wars kits since they sell everything.

1969 Dodge “Country Charger” R/T by round2
niteowl7710 replied to Nick Notarangelo's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Is there a person alive - who's young enough to have seen the show enough - who HASN'T built a General Lee yet? You can debate the PC of Warner Bros no longer licensing property from the Dukes of Hazard, but can we all stop treating it like it's some piece of historical National TV treasure. -
Got this in today, freshly released from Scale Model Creators - a higher end Japanese resin caster that has specialized mostly in transkits for Fujimi Lamborghini Gallardo & Murcielago kits along with some Ferraris. This is designed for the Tamiya MX-5 kit, body, some specific interior pieces, exhaust, different front brakes, sheet of P/E and decals.

It'll probably be a few more days before most places carry the Charger and D.P. Ford Fusion. From talking to the vendors this weekend at a local show who have brick & mortar stores and participate in the Revell Preferred Provider program they all had their orders in and then Hobbico decided to force ship out all those Build n Play Star Wars kits they introduced on 9/1 as part of people's orders which effectively doubled the cost, so everyone had to scramble to cancel off the RPP stuff and re-order for regular delivery at the beginning of October. They did the same thing last year in September, so this wasn't exactly a surprise, but for vendors who don't have a full-service hobby shop (like Mark Twain Hobbies who is the eBay seller on that auction) and only carry cars what were they gonna do with a case of Star Wars kits they didn't order in the first place...so we continue to wait through this mild inconvenience.

Next Meng Kit Announced - How About a Jeep?
niteowl7710 replied to niteowl7710's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Yes they did. Aoshima has working suspensions on several of their kits too, but it's more of a gimmick to adjust ride height than to play with on the floor. -
Which Countach is the better kit?
niteowl7710 replied to JollySipper's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I will now step in and disagree with all of the people and point you to the Aoshima kits. They are the most recent - being tooled in 2012 - and are 3D scanned from the actual cars at the Lamborghini Factory & Museum in Italy. They are 98% full detail - bottom of the engine fits to the chassis plate rather than the engine to make the various types (there are 5 kits in the series) modular rather than having to retool the engine compartment 5x over. They're much more proportionally accurate IMO, and they're a notch or two below the EM insanity of the Fujimi kits (which I think have more parts than a 1:1 Countach). -
Next Meng Kit Announced - How About a Jeep?
niteowl7710 replied to niteowl7710's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
It's a technical issue of trying to figure out a way to make those giant kites they call spoilers. Trying to find a method to create the struts so they're both in-scale, don't warp during manufacturing, and strong enough to hold the spoilers own weight has been vexing. You'll notice they've NEVER shown a built test shot or even sprue shots of the kit yet either. Speaking of them and things we have seen, wonder when that DS-21 is going to be released, they've been trotting around a couple of built ones since the Spring. -

Fujimi Ferrari 288 GTO Variants?
niteowl7710 replied to Dodge Driver's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Other than the differences between the street and race version they're all the same. The eBay people prey on the uninformed and well Enthusiast Series kits are old, so they must be VALUABLE. All of the EM kits have been reissued at least once since the 1980s, some more than that. Several of the most popular like the Countach and later 911s (70s and 80s variants), along with the Daytonas, 288 GTO & Dinos have been reissued recently in either plain boxes or as part of the Circuit Wolf series. Fujimi is going to reissue the Dino 246 GT kit again in December actually. -

Already a thread in the truck section. -
While those decals aren't as good as commercially printed silk screen stuff, I don't know how you'd even license the Linkin Park car at this point seeing as the band doesn't in a technical sense exist, and that was a one race deal for the '16 24hrs of Spa.

In the tiny print on the box art there will be both hard top and soft top options. Can we get someone working on replacement tires so we can insta-bail on those "BFGeedreih Mvd-Tarroin T/As"?
-
HLJ's pre-order price is $31.82 US - https://hlj.com/product/TAM24345/Aut The Linkin Park decals already exist - http://tailormadedecals.webshopapp.com/en/amg-gt3-bf-linkin-park.html The "Battlefiled" (misspelled to protect the innocent) decals are being designed, although the Tamiya kit has the 2016 headlights with the twin headlights, someone - perhaps Tamiya in a 2nd release since they loved to do that with racecars in the past - will need to make the 2017+ single beam headlight buckets.

I'd guess it would be the tooling investment in today's dollars. The way engines are designed on the current kit runners there's no easy way to just stamp out a few thousand 383s with some stuff over here, some stuff over there, and some stuff on the chrome runner, etc. You'd be talking about making all new engine tools for all of that. Now you could argue that going forward you'd design each engine to be modular enough to be run individually, but I'm not necessarily sure anyone at Revell possess that much insight - or bravery to take that kind of risk.
-
Well in all fairness to the CYA Division of Revell (Motto - Making You Buy Another Kit to Get What You Paid for the First Time), the only reason the most recent version of the '72 Olds has two grilles is because the original one DOESN'T have two grills and therefore couldn't actually be built as the 4-4-2 as advertised on the box. To boot you have to pay more to get the right grille since there's that resin figure of Linda Vaughn in it.

Beemax posted the built test shot/decal fit today. The two liveries are both Eggenberger Motorsports, the Kamachi is the 1985 Guia Race of Macau winning livery, the other is the 1985 InterTec Fuji Winning livery. 21462344_1457203550981632_7412489462807889861_n by James Duff, on Flickr

Not sure why they have it tagged Enthusiast, but it's the same ole same ole reissue, just this version has a nameplate to celebrate the 60th Anniversay of the Skyline.

Curbside models in competition
niteowl7710 replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Without coming across as a total horn tooter, I'll second what Steve said in that I have the trinkets of proof that a well done OOB Curbside can not only place, but win it's class against full blown kits that were fully detailed. -
Next quarter.
-
It's the engine and wheels out of the '30. Make it a more appealing (to some) reissue rather than just dumping the same ole same ole kit back onto the market. At least locally (and it seems like most Hobby Lobbys everywhere, eBay pricing, etc) the '29 was always available on shelves/close to regular price on eBay. Be interesting (and consequently not surprising)) if the '30 has the Buick mill and wheels. I believe Tim pointed out in another thread this tooling is designed to be modular in that respect.

Curbside models in competition
niteowl7710 replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Curbside is kind of an antiquated class at this point. It was sort of a bone throw to import/race/resin guys who were building kits with no engine and minimal chassis detail. But these days very few - if any - contests still allow judges to pick up an entry to inspect the chassis work or look at the engine in close detail. That's why most say if you specifically want your chassis judged you need to put it on a mirrored base. Since nobody is picking up the entries anymore a kit that's curbside in content has just an equal chance to win a regular class. It wouldn't surprise me to see Box Stock/OOB get phased out as well since it really doesn't matter how much effort someone spends in plumbing a chassis, unless they have the mirror base to show it off. One thing that grinds my gears is when Curbside & Slammer are combined into one class. I don't mean to imply offense but someone who spends the time to build an entire kit, interior included shouldn't be judged against someone who spent a couple of hours making a very nice body shell over aftermarket wheels. -
Alright so that's 6-10 new parts out of a completed chassis/powertrain assembly of close to 40? I'm glad that the specific differences will be addressed, but considering 95% is carried over I think that's still functionally "more or less carry overs".
-
Drivetrain and chassis should more or less be carry overs from the other F-Series kits as they all used the same components. The differences would be in interior and exterior.
