I watched a couple of You Tube videos on the upcoming Demon kit, I’m sure that like me everyone was hoping for an update very similar to the AMT Duster kit, but it’s closer to the original MPC rendering. I’m using a lot of the Duster kit under my Demon body, I removed the under hood structure and it fits the Demon Body very well. Future reference for everyone waiting on the new reissue. 2nd coat of filler on body, I’m filling the cowl vent, I still need to remove the windshield wipers.

Quick up date, I spent a couple hours last night removing the rear frame rails. I now need to measure how much inboard they need to be moved in to clear the Slicks. I also got the first coat of filler applied and sanded.

Thank you Bob, I completely agree with you! No one should ever feel intimidated to post on this forum. Let’s face it Model car builders are a minority and as I’ve aged I find it more important to make a modeling friend, than comparing skills. I didn’t think I was feeling intimidated,but maybe I was. Everyone has a different building style and level of skill. When I was building my Maverick, there was a couple of others on the forum building Maverick’s at the same time and I really enjoyed the different approaches the others took and the sharing of ideas to resolve issues in the building process, so I decided to go ahead with the Demon. No one on this forum has ever been critical or demeaning of me or my builds, it’s always encouraging, and I really appreciate that!

Looking great Bob, is the hood going to fit, or will it require some modifications?

I’m loving this build, when I was 17 I live in St Louis Mo. and was heavily involved in street racing, I received 21 citations that year 17 of which was moving violations. The St Louis PD used these Novas painted a medium light blue. I’ve always wanted to build a replica of the cars I tried so hard to avoid. Great looking build!

I made a template for the front wheel openings, and trimmed then accordingly. It’s starting to look like a Demon!

I have both rear wheel openings roughed in, the first one came out great, the second came up short and I had to shim the pieces to match the first one. After glue, I rough sanded and brushed on filler primer.

Thanks Francis, hopefully it won’t take 3 years like the Hornet. In all honesty I almost didn’t start on this one as it won’t compare to what your doing, I was afraid of the comparison of the builds. Then after thinking more about it, I decided what the heck, I’m a plastic hack and can hopefully make a decent replica of Billys car. Seems like so many of the projects I choose have very little references available, so I build them as close to what the rules called for and how the finished project looks.

Thanks Daniel, after I started the wheel openings I found a junk Revell Demon/Duster funny car body and they were very close to the size I needed, but none of the body lines would match. Lots of options, just need to keep an open mind and have a good stash of parts. I too love early Pro Stocks

I used the Dart Sport body to reconstruct the rear wheel openings. Looking at photos of the real car, they are really streached. I sectioned them and have a roughed in the right side. I also started on the hood scoop which is modified from the Monogram Glidden T-Bird pro stock kit.

Thanks Bob, since the painting weather has gone away, I think there’s enough fabricating and modifications to keep me busy a while.

I actually have watched that video a few times, and plan on using it for reference, thanks.

Hey Ron I thought I’d share this with you, Plastruct sells styrene hexagon Rod in real small sizes, this works great for recreating bolt heads. I’ve used them for oil pans, rear vale covers fender flanges and suspension mounting bolts.

Thanks John, thats interesting! I didn’t look up the real car info on the interior, I was just comparing it to the parts I have in my MPC Duster kit. They are the same and I assumed MPC did that to save money. I won’t be using the stock seats as the race car had light weight racing seats. I will save your illustration for the door panel details.

Hey Todd, thanks for that info! As with most of my projects theirs not much detail in this car, lots of photos on the car but no real photos of the chassis or the interior. I was thinking of going with the AMT Duster interior as it has good detail and I can easily delete the rear seat.

Thanks Edgar, hopefully I can generate enough progress to keep everyone interested. The tires are the AMT parts pack recently. I think the front wheels are from the AMT 55 Nomad Kit, the rears are resin wheels I picked up somewhere. I’ve had them a long time. There a little to deep, but I should be able to make them work.
