Italeri 1979 Mercedes 450 SLC 5.0
Jim B replied to Jim B's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Thanks, guys. @MittagskindInteresting bit of trivia, Hanjo. Thanks. -
My latest completion is the Italeri 1979 Mercedes 450 SLC 5.0 as it appeared in the Rallye Bandama Côte d'Ivoire 1979: I did mine as the 2nd place car driven by Björn Waldegård & Hans Thorszelius. In addition to the Italeri kit, I used the Modell Bau Mürau P/E set for the kit. The fit of the kit was ok, and I did have some trouble with some the P/E details, but overall I am happy with the results. I did have to cut the studs off of the rear wheels to get them to fit under the body, though. The body is painter in Tamiya Gloss Aluminum TS-17, and the hood is Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black TS-29. Some interior shots from during assembly: Not the best, but it's an interesting addition to my collection.

I'm sure Salvinos will do their research and do what they have to do; but if they do end up being 1/20, then I'll pass. I agree that the kits should have both aero packages & both sets of tires.

That's what I discovered here in the DeWitt, NY, store. I hope they bring back the models.

Bronco finished!

Great looking Bronco. -
Nice looking Maserati. Really well done. No, I don't think you're the only one who does "stream of consciousness" builds. I call them "kicks", myself, and currently I'm on a road racing kick, previously it was muscle cars. It all just sort of depends. I do end up doing a "flight of fancy" build sometimes in the middle of a kick, though, like my F-4J Phantom II.

I'm glad I can be in inspiration to someone! Go for it. -
Grat looking Mustang. Very well done. Funny thing is, when I first read the title, I read "Speeder" not "Speedster", and I was wondering how you were going to mix a Ford Mustang & Star Wars. ?

Well, that makes sense, I guess. I have the Tamiya P34 in 1/12 that I built back in 1992. Nice kit if I remember correctly. It was actually my second F1 kit as I had built their 1/12 Lotus back in 1985.

Is he even on the same island?

I've never really understood why open wheel race cars are in 1/12 & 1/20. There must have been a logical explanation to their rationale, but 1/20 just seems like a sci-fi scale to me as many Ma.K. kits are 1/20. Personally, I hope they're in 1/25 scale.

Parts for Revell 29&30 model As
Jim B replied to randyc's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It is kind of crazy how much is leftover in these kits. Unfortunately, I think it would cost more in the aftermarket to buy the required parts to make a complete car than buying a new kit, but then you have more leftover parts. -

Mazda 787B-002 No. 55 1991 Le Mans Winner
Jim B replied to Lobo2me's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Definitely see that coming down the track. -
This is very intriguing, and I hope they sell better than the AMT & Revell Indycar/CART models (which I've heard weren't big sellers back in the day). I would think that once Salvinos gets the Dallara DW12 chassis done, and the Honda & Chevrolet engines, they should only have to change the decals, instructions, & box to do different drivers. Similar to there NASCAR line.
