Factory Colors
Rodent replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Steve, IIRC the old Autolite battery cap color denoted the power (amperage) of the battery. I can't find a decoder ring, but you should be fine with red. -
Five, I think? 116 for sedans, wagons, and Elkys vs 121 for the Vista Snoozer and Buick Sportwagon I think.

I may have missed something, but who is casting these, and what kit is it designed to work with?

'53 Ford pickpu tuck'n roll interior
Rodent replied to krassandbernie's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
And I got mine yesterday. Pretty much zero flash and nicely cast. It isn't terribly clear in Ed's pictures, but the kit comes with inside door handles, armrests and window cranks. -
What's the latest Revell North America News
Rodent replied to Phildaupho's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
No 68 Chevelles nor 69 Boss 302s up here in Sacramento yet that I have found. Our one remaining LHS is pretty lame as well. -
Looks great David. I think that I may have to look for one of these.

Childhood models that you replaced in adulthood.
Rodent replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
None. Yet. Eventually I would like to build a Mr.Norm 69 Charger funny car (first 1/25 kit I built by myself and bought with lawn mowing money). Also like a Motor City Stockers 70 Chevelle, an AMT 57 Ford, a new tool 70 Coronet built in the colors I built the original in, an Autocar dump truck, and a 69 Impala SS 427 convertible built to modern standards. Some of these aren't difficult to find, but I just haven't done it. -
Yellow tags at Hobby Lobby
Rodent replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When Revell was circling the drain, I stopped by the HL nearest my office to see what I might pick up for either a future build or trading fodder. I chose the "stock" 70 Charger. The person running the register was a very attractive female in probably her late 20s. She was obviously attracted to the pink muscle car on the box. Her name tag proclaimed that she was the manager. She babbled something like, "That would be an awesome car if the windows went up and down with a switch." She looked at me in total disbelief when I told her that many cars could have been ordered with power windows in 1970, including the Charger. In fact, my great uncle had a 55 Olds 98 with power windows. Absolutely nothing to do with a coupon, but had to chime in about their staff. I'm sure her head would have exploded if I had taken her out to the parking lot and explained what the mysterious third pedal is used for in my Mazda3. -
Thanks Steve!

Disc brakes became standard in 1969 for the SS396. There are lots of copies of the 68 brochure online. I always like to look at them when I am doing a near stock build. I always heard the same thing about special paint on GMs back then, except that the selling district office set the price. I also heard that Cadillac Firemist colors weren't available because the larger flake wouldn't work with the paint equipment in the other assembly plants. Could be true, could be internet BS. I did look a "Resale Red" 69 SS396 convertible that had a blank paint code. The seller said it was blue under the carpet, etc. I have always wondered what it looked like new and why the original buyer couldn't find a factory blue they liked.

Right, I guess I meant to say that the kit has a disc brake master cylinder. A drum cylinder could be swapped in if you want to use the mag wheel covers. It would be correct. 68 was the last SS396 to have standard manual drums with optional power assist.

http://chevellestuff.net/1968/68ss.htm I have found this to be a great site for Chevelle information. As far as I have seen so far, the SS396 lower body paint only came in black. I saw one thing that said that black cars had the body color below the molding. Bill, the rallye wheels may have been a mandatory option when disc brakes were ordered. That seemed to be the case for 67 and on some Camaros.

Fathom Blue or Tripoli Turquoise would be my choice. Parchment /black interior with the blue, all black with the turquoise. I don't like the 68 D96 stripes either. Too much going on with the lower two tone for my tastes. Maybe add a black vinyl top?

Awesome, but does it fold up into a suitcase like George Jetson's ?
