Coming along nicely
-
Made some progress on this one. Applied a variety of custom made decals and clear coat. Some carbon fiber here, some sponsors there... This is not a race car, but rather over the top drift/showoff tuner. Main theme - over the top obnoxious to the point of being cool. Like a puppy that's so ugly it's cute. The clear still needs to be sanded and buffed and most of the black areas still need to receive carbon fiber decals. Hopefully I can do all that this weekend and spray a final coat of clear.

Tamiya 1/12 Ferrari 641/2
mrm replied to Rich Chernosky's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I'm following this as well. I have a couple of those Ferraris in 1/20 still sealed in their boxes. -
Pretty cool. Were did you get it from?

I tried to repair my paint mishap today. I've always been advocating against frivolous labor. I think that when possible, things should be kept as simple as can be. So I sanded first with 600 followed by a 1000 grit. Dry. no pressure in circles, in order to blend the edges where the paint peeled. This opened up raw plastic, but even if it didn't, primer was still going to be necessary to seal the open ends of the clear coat. my favorite method of decanting spray cans is simply spraying into little waxed paper cups, which I buy in bags of 300. Tamiya fine grey primer was sprayed in a cup and then directly in my airbrush. Low pressure and very carefully feathering the primer on. Next the same technique was used to lay up some color coat. The primer was not sanded and the drying time was whatever took me to clean my airbrush from the primer. I have to say that after the primer the surface looked absolutely perfect and as smooth as it gets. However the pictures show a slight ghosting of the edge of the previous clear coat, after the color was applied. It is funny how my camera is picking it up, because when looking at it with naked eye, I can't see it. Anyway, after the color coat it was time for clear. I gave the color about 30 min or maybe even less before I applied the clear. I wanted to make sure the paint gasses out. every time I took a step the covered area grew. By the time the clear went on I was spraying half way through the door, all the way to the center line of the hood and all the way to the front bumper. Pretty much like blending a real car. Now the clear is curing and by the end of the weekend I should be buffing it. Just in case this doesn't go to plan, I ordered a second kit. If this body end up looking good I am using it. But if after color correction it doesn't make me happy, I am just painting the new one.

I saw a feature of the car somewhere, I don't remember. And I thought "Hm, this would make a cool model". And that was it. But then I went to the Good Guys show in Nashville and while I was walking around I saw the car chilling under a tent. Very unassuming on the side. I went to check it out and I realized it was the car from the feature I had seen. So I took some pictures and talked to the guys that build it. What striked me was how understated it was and also that the color looked completely different in the sunlight from what I had seen in the article. Then I stopped by the spray cans in Wallmart (I always do) and I saw the two greens and they were perfect match. So I grabbed them and the how the build started. Thank you for the kind words. And by the way I have a couple more that I have not taken pictures of yet.

Nice. So from what I see we'll have headers hanging from the sides on a blown Chevy together with the frame all from the Rat Roaster with the sedan body on top. Is it going to be chopped?

This was completed last year, but I never got around to taking photos of it. The car is not exact copy, but rather inspired by a Good Guys Hot Rod of the Year '32, which I saw in person and immediately fell in love with. I knew I had to make a model of it, the minute I saw it. My model is pretty close to the original, altho not 100%. It is based on the next to last edition of the Revell '32 Tudor Sedan and has pieces from a dozen different kits, modified interior, scratch built wheels and few photo etched pieces. The black parts of the car were painted with Tamiya gloss black, while the two different greens are Rustoleum garden furniture paint from Walmart. There is a coat of Tamiya grey primer under all the paint and everything was topped off with 2K clear. It was somewhat quick and simple build, at least by my standards. It does have some flaws, but overall I am happy with it.

Porsche 911 RSR by Tamiya on Scalemates?
mrm replied to 64Comet404's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I am not a big fan of the pattern of the provided carbon fiber, but that could be easily resolved. I am definitely getting one. -
That blue... Looking good.

The working lights are the cherry on the cake, but it looks great even without them.

For some reason every time this car is mentioned, it always pops in my head in orange. Great job.

Really great job on this one. I have some great memories with a car in the exact same color combination from 2000. (not my car) We got chased by State police together with a Porsche like this on our way to the F1 race in Indianapolis. Biggest ticket I've ever received. I was young and stupid and absolutely deserved it.

Great detail. A lot of work in that engine bay.

Speaking purely about looks, I think this generation Corvettes and the C7 are the best. I like your choice of color.

I've never seen this box art before. The model looks great in all black.
-
Very nice. Lately I've been a huge fan of white cars.

Papaya Orange and lots of carbon. Perfect spec. I keep putting this kit off, but sooner or later I'l get one. Great execution on a complicated kit.

Very nice. Open doors and trunk, just the right color, nice wheels... Looks like a lot of work went into this one. The results are top notch.

Wrap up on the Revell Renault based showrod kits......

That's all great and all, but why is a video of some old boxes in this thread? -
Nice Supra. Almost every morning I drive behind a black one on my way to work. He's local to me, but gets off the HW way before me. Neat car.
-
I love the aggressive stance.
-
Very nice. The paint on mine is fighting me. You got yours in yellow which is not an easy color to paint. Great job.

There is just something about a black and yellow car with wide tires that speaks to me. One of my favorite color combos.
