What did you see on the road today?
1320wayne replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Being an OTR truck driver I get to see a lot of interesting sites and vehicles on the road. Every once in a while I get a chance to snap a shot. This was a classic mid 30's Chevy street Rod pickup in Arkansas. A drag race 5.0 Mustang on it's way to the strip in So. Georgia A cool T-bucket with matching trailer in No. Florida. Jeg Coughlin rig on it's way to an event in Ohio. An insanely oversized sleeper semi in So. California A 65 Cuda on it's way to the track n Cent. Florida. And an unknown classic/custom in No. Connecticut -
Decals for the Glidden Fairmont
1320wayne replied to Bird12's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I wasn't in any way showing any support for Whiskey Ridge, just simply showing the image that I found that also shows up in their listings. I don't even know if the original creator of these decals is involved with WR. Chuck, you should definitely finish the red, white and blue version as well as the blue and white. I've been wanting to do this version and your decals are top notch. -
Been messing around with this just a bit while I've been home. Removed all of the support bracing and added a light coat of primer to see just how much texture I would be dealing with. I've already started the sanding process but with these bodies you want to go slow as to not remove any fine bodywork details. It's coming along but will take a bit more sanding to get it ready for final primer and eventually paint. I also test fit the chassis which fits perfectly. And I messed with seeing how it would look with tires and wheels mocked up as well.

Decals for the Glidden Fairmont
1320wayne replied to Bird12's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I found this image on the web a few months ago. I'm not sure who created them but they look pretty good, although the blue is a little on the light side and the Glidden text appears to be incorrect. I believe that I saw these decals tied in with Whiskey Ridge resin and decals and I simply won't be doing any business with them but at least the decal could create a good masking opportunity to paint the scheme yourself. -
With a little bit of work at adjusting the ride height with the chassis and using the modern era Revell rear slicks you can make a pretty decent build that looks a lot more like the real cars from that time as opposed to what the kit actually builds into using the kit tires. Also, the body isn't too far off being accurate. Here is a pic. of one Gene Snow version that I did a few years back.

What 1/25 Kits Were Molded in Orange?
1320wayne replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And for the racing crowd the Monogram Darrell Waltrip Tide Monte Carlo was molded in Orange. -
The factory did not do these cars. They provided A990 cars that were sent to Hurst Performance for the additional work. And, the only factory sedan that my research indicates was Bill Flynn's Yankee Peddler car that he sent back to Chrysler and they then sent it go Hurst for the conversion. Another interesting note is that if any of the owners of factory provided cars wanted to sell them to other drivers Chrysler had to approve the sale. For instance Norm Krause (Mr Norm) his first 65 awb came from Roger Lindamood. Since he was already a prominent Chrysler car dealer the sale was a no brainer. There were a lot of cars that were recycled like that when original drivers upgraded to something else. But most of these awb cars were simply homebuilt with no factory involvement.

I was home this weekend and was able to spend a small amount of time on this one. Sorry no pictures for any updates but a little information to share. First, I cut away all of the bracing that comes with these bodies and did some test fitting of the chassis. What I thought would be true turns out to be fact. The 68 chassis fits just fine inside the 69 body. After all, there are only minor differences from a 68 and 69 Camaro and the inner body dimensions should be pretty close to the same. The only area that comes up short are the rear most body mounting braces on the chassis. Adding a small amount of material will be no effort at all to make this work. Secondly, as thin as these bodies are I have to say that whatever the material is that is used to create these bodies is pretty durable. Even with a Dremel tool the sanding process on trimming off the bracing mounts was a chore. The material just did not want to sand off. Very hard plastic compound. I was able to clean up the body and get some primer sprayed on so the next step, when I'm home again, will be smooth sand the body and lose the texture from the printing process.

LED bulbs, best place to buy from?
1320wayne replied to Jeremy Jon's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
www.policecarmodels.com This is where I buy my lights from. Kits that are already wired together and ready for use. Many different types and affordable. -
It was brought to my attention
1320wayne replied to futurattraction's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Just to shed some extra light on the subject, I joined Sheps closed Facebook group and directly asked him where he got the Fairmont body from and he stated that he had the body mastered specifically for him by a good friend. That pretty much contradicts his statement made above. Plus, his attitude towards others is not very business friendly. Just saying, there's some credibility issues there. -
If I recall that intake came from any of the Revell pro stock Olds kits.

And a few more.

Well, since I don't have the time to build anything new at the time I figured that maybe I could at least contribute some older builds engines here.

1969 Outlaw Camaro...updates (10/21/14)
1320wayne replied to tyrone's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nice work on the suspension Tyrone. One other good source for front and rear springs is to collect springs from used ballpoint pens and then cut them down to the size you need. Most pens have springs with the perfect diameter and still have the ability to compress and retract if you were to make a working suspension. -
If that's the case then TDR sent me the wrong chassis. I'm not worried about it though because there is not enough of a major difference between a 68 and a 69 to keep me from using this chassis. I think I have enough skills to make whatever adjustments might have to be done to use this one. Thanks for letting me know.

The paint scheme will be painted and the text on the sides along with the eagle graphic on the hood will be replicated in decal form.
-
Thanks Tyrone. The Vette is still in the works but it's put away for the time being. I will get back to it somewhere down the road.
-
Here's the basic look that I'm going to be going for with the paint scheme.
