  1. Here is a link to the schedule of events. http://www.ipms2012.org/Schedule/schedule.html Model registration closes as of 6pm on Friday evening.
  2. The clear coat has been applied. I'm not sure how well that will translate in pictures but trust me when I say that the body is nice and shiny. A few days to cure and then I can rub it out to a glass smooth finish.
  3. Other than what has been mentioned there are other 1:1 automotive museums that have some pretty extensive model displays and collections. The few that I can name because I have seen them is the NHRA museum in Southern California that has a large contingent of models displayed. Don Garlits museum of drag racing in Ocala, FL has quite a few models displayed. The North Carolina Motorsports museum just North of Charlotte has many displayed. And the Talladega Speedway museum has a good collection as well. No other stand alone locations that I know of.
  4. Thanks Jim. I will probably have it with me at Orlando but it most likely won't be done by that show. The front mounted distributer is a common modern setup for pro stock and nitrous powered pro mod engines like the one shown here.
  5. Here are a few more shots. The 3 speed Lenco is detailed and installed.
  6. Thanks guys. Ozzy, it's been about two years worth of trial and error with nothing more than the Word program on my computer and a simpe inkjet printer. It's relatively easy to do and as long as you use clear images that you are inserting into your word document and seal the printed decal with a suitable clear coat after the decal dries from the printer and before you start to use them you shouldn't have many, if any issues. Although, the larger the image the better your chances of having the decal separate while it's in the water as you are attempting to apply it. I have had minimal issues with what I have attempted. Every decal on this build, aside from the contingencies along the rocker panels, are homemade. The others are from a Slixx sheet. That should give you a decent comparison. What I am creating will never be the same quality (image clarity) as professional decals but is a suitable replacement for stuff that doesn't exist. One added note, I have experienced that clear decal film reproduces better and applies better than white decal film. That being said, printing onto clear film without the benefit of printing white, or a white underlayment, limits you as to what color base coat you can apply clear decals over and still see the image.
  7. Check out the link. It is a Hyundai Elantra Zombie Hunter that was displayed at the most recent Comic-con in SanDiego. http://autos.yahoo.c...1342194821.html
  8. O.K., so the basic engine is assembled and installed. After multiple test fittings it became apparent that the engine would have to be mounted between the framerails before all of the added detail can be completed as some of the braided lines and fittings and belts would be wrapping in and around the existing frame. So, I was able to get the engine to that point and then installed it. From here I can continue to add extra detail like all of the fuel lines, nitrous fittings and lines and oil lines and dry sump hardware. I was also able to get the passenger side graphics and decals added so that the body can be prepared for clearcoating and final polishing. Don't mind all of those little pinholes on the rear of the body as they will covered up with a small strip of styrene that will help mount the rear spoiler.
  9. In regards to next years contest, after looking at the entire list of available kits, it would only make sense to either choose Modern Muscle/Sports Cars or anything Race Car related as a theme. Those are the two genres that have the most available kits to support maximum entries or interest, IMHO. Congrats. to all of the winners and to all those who simply went so far as to enter.
  10. Most of the model contests in Wash. are early year shows. There are a couple of IPMS shows in and around the Seattle area early on. An automotive contest in Mt Vernon somewhere around Feb. or March. A really nice contest in or around May or early June in Puyallup and a couple of shows over the border in the early part of the year. If you want to travel just a bit there are also some good shows throughout the year down in the Portland area culminating with a really good IPMS contest at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, OR, which is just outside Portland. That show is usually in September. Closer to you will still find a Goodguys show at the fairgrounds in Puyallup in July. I still believe that they have a model contest in conjunction with this show. Spokane may also still have one of these shows in late Summer as well. A quick check of the magazine website calendar of events pages should give you some insight as well as the IPMS upcoming events page on their site.
  11. Jim, just remember to wash it first. You're always wearing the green shirt, LoL!
  12. If you really paid close attention to the video you would also see that they didn't just make this run once but multiple times for multiple camera angles. The existing tire marks already on the street when he entered certain areas was a dead giveaway as well as different camera angles shot where you would see a remote camera or camerman in the view if it was one take. That is impressive to coordinate so many runs through this course in a city that large. I am a bit dissapointed though as he did take out a barrel when he was doing doughnuts around Pastrana. Seriously though, the man can drive.
  13. I received the same one about a week ago and simply deleted it.
  14. Whenever my wife sees me running in from the garage clutching one hand or another all she says is, "put a new blade in your Xacto again, huh?"
  15. I believe this is the same one.
  16. Looks great Chuck. All of your decals come out looking great. Any progress on the Glidden Fairmont decals yet?
  17. I am using Scale Hardware nuts and bolts. So far everything I've done is with 1.0mm nuts and bolts but I have many other sizes for different parts of the build.
  18. You should be able to use the Revell chassis setup with Rickard's body design. You just may have to make some small adjustments to get everything to fit properly. You don't always have to go the scratchbuilt chassis route if you don't want to.
  19. Nice job.
  20. Yeah, I hope to have it done in time but I'm not going to rush any part of it to make it happen.
  21. Harry, would you please re-read my post and tell me where I said that I created these images? Even though you downplayed Word as a useful tool I was simply trying to help by letting people know that Word could be used for something, especially if you didn't want to spend tons of money on expensive programs.
  22. Everything Harry has mentioned here is very correct and very accurate regarding all of the different graphics programs and how they work and what they can be used for, as well as mentioning the hefty costs for most of them. However, I don't want anyone to think that you can't "create" a decal using a simple program such as Microsoft Word. And yes Harry, I know that what you are saying in the sense that you cannot create a custom image using Word, but you can create a custom decal layout by using images imported from other sources, and even though you also mention this I don't want folks thinking that Word is limiting. For some people that may be as much as they need. If you are in the same position that I am in, in regards to not wanting to exhaust lots of money on any of these expensive graphics programs, then you rely on what creativity you can acheive using whatever is available without spending a large amount of money. I have been playing around with simple layouts using Word for about two years now, learning new things with each new creation. It's fun, easy, simple and doesn't cost much other than using lots of ink and decal paper. The following images were created using Word.
