Builds for 2020 Stats (Unscientific)
Tom Geiger replied to Perspect Scale Modelworks's topic in Model Cars
I like it! This is always my favorite year end activity! There are people (like me!) feverishly working on finishing a build tonight before posting their tally! -
Kinda ambitious aren't ya Mr Snake? ? Me? Hold my beer! (And don't try to hold me to this!) First I am finishing up my Jeepster and companion Jeep and it's trailer this year. There is a second Jeepster on the bench. I do have the long hardtop coming, so I don't know if this one will have that, or if that will be a third build. Yea, I do have three original Jeepster kits. For the 24 Hour Build, I will be building me a Red Chariot. I don't have the classic box. I have later releases of the phaeton, and I have all the original unique parts that make this car. That adds a unit to my Monogram Model A shelf. Which leads me to this boat tail Model A for the same shelf.. I need to finish it. This is a "Before" photo of the 57 sport wagon. I have it stripped, the post repaired and primed. I will do a quick build on it to add to my 57 Ford custom lineup. My theme the past few years has been attacking old builds that were never finished. This Mustang has been around a looong time. That photo is in the garden of my old house. It should be an easy completion. All the hard work is done. Maybe my first "Bring Out Your Dead" candidate for 2021. Another one that needs to be finished. And this one makes an occasional return to the bench. I'd like to finish it this year. Every time I post photos of the project, some guy goes nutz that I ruined two old Johan classic kits to build this... actually there's three of them in here! ? And they were $10 models when I did it. That's how long this one has been waiting. And another old resto that's sitting in the corner of my side bench! 1962 Valiant that some kid put the 41 Lincoln? uptop on as a carson top. Lotza bad putty, it's all been sanded since this photo. Uses the custom nose. You can see the influence of the Bobtail Cat here, which is why this never finished relic must be completed! I also have an idea for the 77 Ford van kit I recently bought at Hobby Lobby. If I get through all that this year, wow! Just hoping it's not another year of lock down! Note that I won't be held responsible for the above post, and it should not be seen as a contract of any kind. I retain the right to declare "Look a squirrel!" at any time during the year and go off on some crazy unforeseen modeling adventure. Hey, it's a hobby, it's gotta be fun!

Cool! I like all of your builds, plus the guitars! I've owned a guitar since I was 13 and never learned to play!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Congrats Tim! A great looking funny car... eight years... at least the silver paint is now dry! -
Great year! Lots of variety, no manufacturers bias here! I don’t think I’ll ever get to 20 builds.

Welcome! I can feel your enthusiasm! I always like to see the reactions from people out of the hobby for decades when they see what is available today!

Vinyl top looks great! The colors go well together, very period!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Tom Geiger replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Checking in - Jeepster should be done! I may need New Years Day to bring ‘er all the way home! While working, I got distracted by a really bad glue bomb in my Jeep parts box.. so I got a companion done too! -
Wow! You had a great year! They all look super

Foose fd-100
Tom Geiger replied to m3fan's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Lookin good! I built one of these and used the chassis and drivetrain on another build. I agree that it’s well engineered and goes together well for a fun build. It’s the type of new kit we need for new builders -
Share that needle!

Great showing for the year Tim! -
Six great models beats a dozen mediocre models any day! I enjoyed riding along as you built these, especially the Canopy, Green barge and VW!

Very nice! Your 29 looks downright real!

Here we are right now.. recovered from the front axle debacle and we are now up on wheels. The body isn’t glued down, still have to drop engine unit into chassis first. Rear view.. tail lights from parts cabinet. I have a drawer marked “Round Things” that I found two suitable bezels. Lenses came from the “Red Clear Parts” drawer. Top view - interior just needs steering wheel and some details. Should be able to push this one up on a trailer this week.

Very nice model! Did you use the kit supplied decals for the white stripes? They came out very well. I've seen ones that didn't cover the red paint completely, and are pinkish. Perhaps Revell in Europe put better decals in their kit?

A couple weeks ago I bought a 32" TV for our bedroom. Then we decided to hang it on the wall. I see the scam.. TV is $125 and the hanger, just a few pieces of metal, is another $50! I went online and found Walmart had an online only special for wall hangers for $19.99. Okay, that's a deal. Then I see I'll have to pay $20 postage! But shipping is free with a $35 order. So I order two of the wall hangers (I will get a TV for the model room!) and it's only $5 more than one and shipping! I ordered it on a Saturday. Order info was that I'd have it the next Friday. I was fine with that. On Tuesday, my wife opens the front door and nearly trips over a package... turns out it was delivered on Monday. No complaints here! I just got shipping notices on two different things. A stamp order from Washington State, and a model order from Michigan. I'm in Pennsylvania, so I'll see how fast / slow these packages are.

A bit more progress on my second Jeep. But last night right before bed I wanted to retire with the image of this up on wheels in my head. As i carefully pressed the last wheel onto it, the spindly front axle exploded into pieces! Broke the end off, tore the leaf spring with it! Argh! Back to my “one step forward, two back” theme of lately! This morning I pulled out a fresh axle and realized the broken one was larger (no doubt why the engine wouldn’t sit on its pins), and I see that the original builder used the rear axle up front! So at least now I have it correct.

Hobby folks are usually easy to deal with and treat each other like fellow hobbyists. The sellers of consumer goods are getting clobbered by the general public who think they can hit “send” on their order, then trot out to their mailbox and the order should be there!

Right or Left?

We just make it up. As long as it's in print on the Internet it must be true! ? Amazing how much useless knowledge one retains! Scalemates... I recently went there to look at the Jeepster information. I hadn't paid any attention to it in the past. I once had an idea for crowdsourcing information about model car kits etc, and there it was! I updated some information on the Jeepsters and provided better photos for two of the kits. I wanted to add a version they don't list but the site isn't all that user friendly. If much of the information there is not accurate, maybe we all should adopt the site and fix it all?
