  1. Thanks Mike! I was going for "island festive" look. We went to St Thomas a dozen years ago and this type of vehicle was all over the place. They were all late model trucks, but I envisioned how they might have looked back in the 1950s and started this truck... probably right after that trip. Here's a pretty typical one that was running around the island as tourist transportation This older Ford was sitting near the airport as if it was a retired antique.
  2. This mornings bit-0-work... made the side decals. Created the graphic in Powerpoint. Copied it into Word, where I fiddled with the sizing. The one sitting on the body is just paper used for the sizing. Once I had that figured, I printed six copies on white decal stock, as shown here. I have since waited for that to dry, and now have just used Testors Decal Fixative on them. I may put on the model this evening.
  3. Tom, you can post your photos directly from your hard drive to this board. Just pull up a picture on your screen. Right click --- COPY then come to this board in the frame you type messages in and Right click -- PASTE. Your photo should appear. Then if you double click on your photo, it gives you the opportunity to resize it.
  4. No weirdness... pretty self evident from the huge banner at the top of the page! Now if I could get $119 for my Desoto I'd be selling!
  5. I know that one well! My wife and I just watched my 19 month old granddaughter. She wore us both out!
  6. There was a "discussion" this morning about moving threads to different categories. There's concern that people do not read some categories, especially ones down near the bottom of the list. I have set my settings as below: My main default is at the top "Unread Content" (I circled it in red). That brings up the menu below the ad, "Unread Content" (My first read arrow) and you can set all of these items, this is how I have mine set. I want to see all items and all content with an "unread" status. I follow "everything" And for the time period of the past year. I have it set so the newest posts appear at the top. When I log into the board and I get the www.modecarsmag.com/forums screen as above and see the Forum Categories, all I do is hit that "Unread Content" text (as I've circled) and I get the view I want. And for those not aware, the icon (dot or star) preceding any topic... Star means it's a topic you have posted in. Dot is a topic you hae not posted in. A dark Star or Dot means you haven't read the latest post. The light colored one means you have read the latest in that thread. So how do you view the board? Do you go down topic by topic? Do you only read some topics and skip others? It should be interesting to see! Are things in different categories indeed lost and not seen?
  7. Stopped in my local HL this afternoon.... nothing on sale at all. They still had most of the mentioned kit marked full boat.
  8. Still on it but moving slower since I've been busy! Passenger area is painted and ready to go... Wheels and hubs painted, foiled and ready to go. I'm not sure whether I'll go with the kit white walls or not. I think I"ll wait to have it all assembled and see what looks right. I also have a new engine all wired and ready to pop into the chassis. Hoping to get some more done this weekend.
  9. Nice work as always! I need to get a couple copies of this kit.
  10. We lost power on Saturday afternoon as a storm rolled through. Fortunately it was just out for 2 hours and was back before dark. Still, everything I could think of doing involved power or was wet from the storm!
  11. I may check my local HL today just out of curiosity. A worker there did tell me that there's a guy who checks daily for kits on sale and buys them all. Still, there isn't anything on the list that I need at this point. I have a few each of the ones I have interest in. The last time I got the "deal" was around the end of last year when they closed out the 1970 Pontiac and 1980 Volare kits. I got a few of each for restoration parts for older kits. I have 1967-69 Pontiacs to rebuild and a 1970 resin hardtop body.
  12. I'm with Rich on this one. I build a lot of light trucks... pickups, vans and such. I'd like to see them included with the car topics and not banished over to the truck category with big rigs. That's a genre all it's own! And where do we draw the line? Is this a rat rod or a truck?
  13. Wow! I'm a big Iacocca fan, he was the true car guy who made things happen. He was originally in sales at Ford, and first got noticed as a zone manager in 1956. Ford missteped that year and advertised safety... things like seat belts, padded dash and safety glass and the public didn't respond. Then Ford noticed one zone outselling the others... Iacocca started his own local campaign based on financing "$56 in '56" and did very well. He was elevated to corporate as a result. Note that aside from the Mustang, Lee had pitched the mini van at Ford but was not successful in getting it in production. Maybe it wasn't the right time, but once at Chrysler he created the Dodge Caravan / Plymouth Voyager twins and created a whole new market segment. When my girls were growing up in the 1980s nearly every family had a Chrysler mini van. We had three! RIP Lee! I read Lee's book and it's definitely worth the read! Another good book on Chrysler is Bob Lutz's book "Guts".
  14. I wasn't at my computer when I posted last night... here's the one I have. Front is the snapper, back of roof came from the blue version of the glue kit. Those last two gasps for the glue kit had a competition type interior, where most folks want the stock interior. The snapper has that.
  15. Snapper was made from this kit. I’ve fused the two bodies together.
  16. Super news! Thanks for sharing Jacob’s progress! The entire board is rooting for him!
  17. Nice work! A funny thing. When I built mine a dozen years ago, I also blacked out the grill. As I put it out to show at a club meeting one of the club nit pickers came over to point and remark that this year truck didn't have a black grill. I roared back, "It's my truck and if it was 1:1 mine would have a black grill!"
  18. Super! That's not the most detailed kit, but you got around that! Looks great!
