  1. Curious. I would think the salt water exposure would be harsh on steel, but that black coating could be rubber based or even some sort of asphaltum base perhaps that could be maintained (constantly!), and either of those might account for the black color. Interesting subject! This will make a nice way to display your float plane.
  2. Nothing to lose, right? In a spray gun, we avoided this by using a very slow drying (high temp) reducer, to allow the trapped water time to evaporate out with the rest of the vapors. Thin coats, and plenty of dry time between at that. A spray can, however, is "all purpose", so never really perfectly suited to shop conditions; just generally warmer is better, and the lower the humidity the better. Good luck!
  3. They burned pretty bright before burning out: '61 Impala (2 versions), '66 Chevelle SS, '67 Olds 442, '53 Ford (2 versions), Ford F-150 4x4 flare-side, '64 Dodge 330, '64 Plymouth, late model Dodge Super Bee (1/24 for some reason!?), and their Snap Kits were as good as any : Dodge Caravan, Crown Vic, Dodge Dakota, and some others from both categories I'm sure I'm forgetting. These are just off the top of my head because they're favorites of mine!
  4. You know, with a top chop and a little sectioning, a bit of chrome, this thing could be... still ugly. I dig the model! I was looking at one of these online recently, because it just has that oddball character that makes it interesting.
  5. Looking good. Would that have been finished, or left in raw aluminum? (I'm assuming aluminum for rust resistance?)
  6. Acrylic lacquers are very susceptible to moisture in the air, and when I read you were about to paint just after the rain, I knew what was coming next. I began doing body work on cars just at the tail end of lacquers being used, so I learned it then. As you noted, it looks intimidating, but after a good cure, will polish out.
  7. Thanks for the info, I'll have to look for that one!
  8. Great tutorial, fantastic results. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
  9. Very nice! I like your color choice and overall cleanliness of the build. Well done!
  10. Cool looking ship, the Naboo fighter is a natural start! A couple of pod racers would be nice to scavenge engines from. What show is this from?
  11. Welcome to the forum. Looks like you're doing some nice work there. The green on that farm truck looks SO right!
  12. Love these in red. Well done.
  13. Looks good in gold! The interior is really grabbing my attention; looks very nice from what I can see of it. Did you take any interior pics before you closed it all up?
  14. Sure you don't have a better donor kit? This is a cool project, and the ol' AMT '64 is getting long in the tooth. Both the chassis and engine are fairly simplified. Got any of the AMT '62 Impalas laying around; they are nicely done, or the Lindberg '61 (348 engine, just scratch a dipstick on the correct side and instant 409, visually) Revell's 62, 63, or 64 Impalas are also good choices, but harder to come by. Hmm, AMT '58 also has the goods, as well as Revell's '59 and '60 kits. I love the idea of what you're doing with this one, I just think it deserves better parts! Heck, I may have a spare '58 chassis/engine I'd donate if shipping to Canada is not too terrible. PM me. BEST of luck.
  15. Liking the interior colors. Were the kick panels also carpeted on these cars?
  16. That engine is a display piece on its own! Nicely done.
  17. Very nice finishing work on this.
  18. What a great looking cab!
  19. Very nicely done! Cool rod all around.
  20. So cool! I love the simplicity of the style here; it's all about the chop. Great color, steelies and dog dishes on solid blackwalls, touches of chrome... it's perfect!
  21. Nice looking rides! I really like your color choices; as much as I love a good red on a car, I have to say that golden yellow is beautiful! Fun stuff!
  22. Good lookin' street rod Love that blue! Well done.
  23. Engine's looking nice! What green paint did you use?
