Tesla vs Hellcat
Maindrian Pace replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)

I think it's safe to say that nobody in the world has ever done such a fine job on that kit. большое уважение. -MJS

I know what you mean! But after I lost nearly 30 lbs, that union hall seemed a whole bunch bigger...

This is coming along well. I'd like to point out that a convertible has a different windshield frame than a coupe or fastback. It's covered completely with stainless trim, and doesn't have rain gutter or closed car trim detail. Some minor filling and sanding will sort it all out. -MJS

The trouble with a four eye nose is not the nose itself, which is easy, but all the other things. A hood, taillights, 1/4 window louvers, complete interior, dash, steering wheel, seats, and the list goes on. The side trim would all need to be changed, and the '85-'86 GT had recessed GT lettering in the 1/4 trim ahead of the rear wheels - that detail would likely have to be 3D printed. You could use the MPC '83-'84 Mustang kits for some of the parts, but they're not detailed to modern standards and those kits are not exactly plentiful or cheap, so nobody would want to do that. So, if all of the parts, including a revised body, were mastered and offered in a resin kit, it would be at least 2-1/2 times the cost of the current conversion kit. As for a Saleen body kit, that's got possibilities, as Saleens of the era were dressed up LX's so no major changes to the body would be necessary. Sketching in the 1/4 window trim detail: -MJS

Great scratch building, beautiful color - no one would guess that started as the NASCAR body. I'd suggest black for the top and interior. -MJS
-
Yes, sort of. Not the LX, I'm planning to build one but haven't decided on a color yet. Maybe Reef Blue or Strawberry. But the next version after this one will be an accurate '93 Cobra, and I'll build one of those in Teal. -MJS
-
Yes, mainly scale. Also, the Monogram body and hatch area has a few wonky proportions that would have had to be corrected, while the MPC/AMT part was pretty close as it was. -MJS

Thanks everyone for the vote of confidence. Looks like this body may be popular! Steaming right along, latest progress: Some interior bracing, garden variety aluminum flashing. A master needs to be stout for casting, because removing it from the inner mold twists it and un-reinforced joints give up. And I don't like doing things twice. Next: Lots of fussy boring stuff that doesn't make for the most interesting of pictures. -MJS

R.I.P Ford V8

"High risk website blocked" That doesn't happen very often, Not diving in there. Makes me question the validity of the article. Why isn't this information anywhere else? -
Thanks Jonathan. Hey, didn't you used to be local?

Starting to take shape. This will be the part II Fox offering from The Master Caster. When the body is done, I'll make a hatch area interior extension, a new LX wing, and a new vacuform glass buck. The wing will be a separate piece. -MJS

As a break from the 1:1 car building, I decided that what I really wanted to do today was to saw up some plastic and resin. The grey, windy, rainy day contributed to the decision, it's kind of like Chicago only without the soul-crushing cold. I started by cutting the hatch area off of an MPC '87 Mustang GT. Figuring out where to cut the coupe was interesting, I wanted to save as much of the roof and 1/4 window detail as possible to make less work for myself. Ain't no turning back now! The hatch needs to be widened, so I broke out the hatch stretcher. -MJS

GMP had major money problems, lost their offices in Georgia, and had the Chinese repossess their tooling. Not a happy thing, especially since they were coming out with one great model after another, so we all thought that they were doing well. They went out of business several years ago, and the tooling remained in limbo until Greenlight bought the rights to the name, and apparently, an unknown quantity of the tooling as well. So we will be seeing modified reissues in new colors etc, but it will be interesting to see if/what new cars are introduced.

Fantastic conversion! You have a great eye, the 4 door sedan body is quite different than the coupe, and I don't see a line out of place. -MJS

Beautiful job Roy, great looking Fox Rod. Glad you liked the body. -Mike S.

A friend of mine just recently completed the restoration of his '56 A. Parts for these cars are dazzlingly expensive, and you really don't want to know what he paid for that paint job. Restoring any of the cars there would run over 150K each, and if you were lucky, you might only loose 1/3rd of your investment.

Well, it may not be a notch, but I think I have to have one anyway. (big surprise) They have also said that they would release a 1991 FBI pursuit Mustang. We'll have to see what that one looks like. -Mike
