Scale model inaccuracies
george 53 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was talkin with a fellow member and he was mentioning the scale fidelity of MOST jap kits. BUT we BOTH noticed that they are almost double the cost of OUR kits. So REALLY maybe it's WHY they cost more than ours, simply because the add the cost of PROPER research to the final cost. But are WE willing to pay 40 bucks for a new Vette or Mustang to GET that scale fidelity? not me.I'm easy. as long as it LOOKS like it SHOULD to me, I'm happy, but thats just me. If those who WANT that kind of fidelity are willing to pay for it,maybe they can petition the jap company's to offer MORE of a variety of AMERICAN cars that would be good sellers. I call them toys because to ME no matter HOW well you build it, ANY kid will play with it as a TOY. ME I appericiate the work that goes into them, but in the end, they're JUST plastic little cars, no matter WHO'S ego say's different. -

Scale model inaccuracies

Tom I can't BELIEVE someone ELSE agrees with me! It's PLASTIC! It DON'T mean the END of the world as WE know it, just cas theres something we seem to feel is wrong with it! TOO many guys act like these toys ARE THEIR LIVES!!! Yeesh, getta grip! They ARE only toys . WE make them to ENTERTAIN ourselves. If someones life REVOLVES around model cars, I DO pity them, cas SOMEONES got their priorities VERY confused! I AGREE TOTALLY with what you said!!!!! -

george 53 replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
If its built in someones garage, it IS a custom car, kit car or not. If it's a ONE off, HOW are we to ID it IF THERES ONLY ONE????? -

Yeah, Ray, I'm no metalurgist, but that looks like disintigrating metal to me. If it's the ONLY one you got, I guess you should be thankful, cause even though I've never seen it on a DIE CAST MODEL, I have seen it happen to pot metal. I'd say you got a model cast from a bad patch of pot metal. I DON'T think theres much you can do with it. Be glad ya got TWO! Good move!

Had subscribed since the 60's! Dropped them a few years ago, along with Car Craft AND Popular Hot Rod. They are ALL just advertisement rags now. Kinda like a mechanical Cozmo magazine. just useless ads an an ocasional GOOD article. I only kept Hemmings Muscle Car and Muscle Car Review. Only two that intrest me anymore. Guess I'm just gettin old.

Charles, yes, depending on WHERE your from slums are different A Chicago/Detroit slum is NOTHING like what you pictured, but they are slums just the same, just different geographical areas. Me, I've been to Mexico and have seen with my own eyes slums EXACTLY like you pictured. BUT, liveing in Detroit, we have NOTHING quite like that, in fact NOWHERE NEAR that, but the are impovershed folks just the same. As one member so eliquently put it, You don't get THAT kinda realism in MOST dioramas. It is VERY nicelt done even if it IS of a scene we don't always wish to visualise. Thank you for shareing it.

My buddy just got a notice on his E-Mail that he had won a model over the website contest. He said he'd just follow their directions and see what happens. Cool if it works out. Anybody else win? I KNOW he isn't the only guy here that won something. -
