  1. I was still learning the mold and casting process when I decided to dive into this project. I decided to try claying parts up in a different way. Each part was set on individual pyramid shapes of clay. I first did what most everybody else was doing. Setting parts on a flat surface and pouring silicone over them. The outcome was horrible and I knew better could be had. Unfortunately that thread somehow vanished from the board I have been posting projects on for several years now. I ended up creating seventeen molds to recreate the Cosma Ray in resin. I did send three kits to Darryl and Donna and Barry. Barry owns the car. I think Barry is a employee to Darryl, but not certain. Dan Baker told me that the Starrbirds attended the big model show in Utah and this project made some quite amazing dinner table conversation. I know Dan loves to talk and I am most certain he will gladly give you all the details. I was certainly riveted when he shared the story. When I first made the parts I was using a bright white resin. I showed them to Bob Peoples at one of our build sessions. He just could not believe they were resin parts. He had me go show my work to Mike Hanson. He was quite happy with the quality. I do custom work for him now. My hands are full of other projects too. CR has not been forgotten. I also still work a forty hour week job. I also learned from a recent CT scan that my right kidney has a four centimeter something growing in it. Hopefully I will be OK.
  2. In case you missed it or can't find it, this is the link to John building one I sent him. Greg
  3. I am still here. The molds are in need of replacement. Some have been replaced but not all. I have been thinking about having the canopies vacuum formed instead of clear resin. The clear resin ones can be tricky to make. Greg
  4. I'm still using photo bucket for free. They have not asked for money yet.
  5. Sanding should be kept to a minimum also. Your skin can become sensitized. Wet sanding is best.
  6. Well, thank you, Phil. I do appreciate the compliment, Especially since I now know that it is one. Imitation IS the greatest form of flattery. The green pieces of paper with pictures of dead presidents tell me that quite often. LOL Got a email from Ron Lambert of Rhode Island. He will be sending me his mastered parts of a 69 Olds Vista Cruiser tomorrow. Upon receipt of this project I will take it to Mike Schnur to have him give it a look. Mike knows a good deal about real cars and building real custom cars too. Rocky is very good at it too.
  7. Go to a CVS or Walgreens in the make up area. In a round container you might find some really pointy, tightly wound Q-tips. These should aid in the burnishing process.
  8. https://neos-server.org/neos/solvers/application:Domino/jpeg.html http://www.dominoartwork.com/index.html I'm not very smart about computers and programs. It looks like you can upload a photo here and it will convert it into a domino pattern. I found Robert Bosch and this program doing a search. You should have fun with this, John. A photo of a race car or your girlfriend/wife just might be possible. It is important for you to know that dominoes don't come in a standard size. Be careful when making a purchase sight unseen.
  9. Of course Scale Reproductions is the superior product. Their original kit supplied a photo etch set and nice white metal parts and tires and decals, etc, etc. Well worth what I paid. I only do a handful of parts and you are only the second person in probably 8 years or so to point that out. Nobody has ever told me not to do it. I figure I offer enough parts to make it real pain in the ass to build it as it should be built. For me, I would think the grille would be the biggest problem to create. I do stand guilty as charged! But it doesn't keep people from all over the world seeking to acquire one. They have gone to Germany, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Canada, South Korea, Australia and other countries I can't name now. Yes, It's a great seller. A Holy Grail indeed. I am also guilty of stealing from AMT, MPC and other original companies just like Modelhaus started doing many years ago. Art Anderson was another guy besides Bob and Polly Zetterman who helped Don and carol get started in the casting business. I'm sure I will look good in orange. JUST THE FACTS MAAM!
  10. Eventually we will. You can try: holygrailresins@gmail.com Rocky set up this contact for us.
  11. Yes, We still make a few parts. We just about have all the molds made to create the Convertible version that Raoul C. created for a what if build. This kit has the two door panels, two piece back seat, a roll bar, two sun visors, four wheels, four wheel trim rings, a gas cap, a hood, and some headlights. Works with AMT ERTL kit 6633. This kit is getting a bit hard to find though. The body I am making is very nice. Rocky was pleased that it was about a five minute cleanup. The flash is quite thin and pops out quickly and cleanly.
  12. I purchased a mint sealed kit of the 69 Trans Am convertible and found several spots on the body where the tire burned in upon opening it. I was not very happy.
  13. Kris thinks it is worth the effort and I do too. One of the modelers here in my Area is Raoul, his name on this board is sport suburban. He has a early 70's Sport suburban. It's big and looks really cool. That would be a great Station wagon to do too. Here is a link to some photos https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=A86.JyJBVQtZDV8AgGcPxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTByNWU4cGh1BGNvbG8DZ3ExBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=1970+plymouth+sport+suburban+wagon&fr=yhs-arh-001&hspart=arh&hsimp=yhs-001
  14. Hi Dwayne, This is looking really good. I have been wondering about you.
  15. Yes, decent equipment is needed for success. I sent you a PM Don.
  16. I like Marilyn I really liked Mae West and Greer Garson too.
  17. The top edge of the front fenders need some sanding to be correct. I don't know why they are so sharply creased. This was the first and most obvious error having been done in a model kit.
  18. I applied mine with clear acrylic paint one at a time. Work with them over a light colored thin foam pad. If you drop one they will be easy to find and won"t bounce.
  19. You could do as I do with bottle caps on my resin bottles. Get some good silicone grease and apply a coat to the threads. Since it is silicone, it is inert to the paint. I use Dow Corning III. You can find silicone grease in a Ace Hardware store in the plumbing stuff.
  20. If you can afford the Model Car Garage photo etch set it is very nice. It will allow you to paint the red paint color in all of the badges and will make your build a killer project. The interior will really pop too. I built one as a convertible. The PE looks great in it. I think I used a Modelhaus 442 boot. It is not a accurate convertible but who cares, it's a model. I will soon have the 69 Vista Cruiser from Ron Lambert. Hopefully and eventually there will be a Sport Wagon version. I kept a photo of a 70 GS stage 1 convertible. It was special ordered with a 70 cadillac color like the Mopar Plumb Crazy. It had a white top and white interior. I think the photo might be on the forum where I post resin casting projects. I will see if I can post a link to it. It is a beautiful car I think they were asking like 180K for it http://smcbofphx.proboards.com/thread/1234/1972-gs Here ya go. A photo of my first car and two beautiful convertibles to wish for.
  21. http://www.reynoldsam.com/phoenix/ https://www.smooth-on.com/tb/files/TASK_8_TB.pdf https://www.smooth-on.com/tb/files/SMOOTHCAST_325_326_327_COMBO_TB.pdf https://www.smooth-on.com/tb/files/MOLD_STAR_15_16_30_TB.pdfhttps://www.smooth-on.com/tb/files/MOLD_STAR_15_16_30_TB.pdf I try to use Smooth on products. When I need something I just drive there and buy product fresh off the shelf. I use their Task 8. Once cured it will become chemical proof and will withstand a great amount of heat. It won't melt in your mouth or your car. I don't really know a lot about paint but I think some can get hot and damage some resin products. https://www.polytek.com/sites/default/files/PTFlexSeries_New-Improved_TechnicalBulletin_Polytek_0.pdf I only wish that Smooth on had a product like the Polytek Flex series for making tires. I have used the 60 and 70 for tire making but it is quite expensive, but it cures pretty quickly. It also does not like the silicone that I use either. Compatability issues can be costly too. I only wish that some products were packaged in smaller containers
  22. I sure wish I knew. It is called pointalism, an art related to science There was a not so famous guy from another country that used it to create art and study how the brain perceives dots that create pictures. Now that I have the recipe to make one I just need to get some dominoes. My bored retired father in law might like something different to do.
  23. http://www.mathdragon.net/kml/math/MESA/Anamorphic_Point/Einstein_Instructions.htm I thought this might be of interest to some. I work at Arizona State University. In the Physical Science F building there is one of these in the foyer. It has always caught my eye. I found some instructions on making one. Wouldn't it be cool for some bored computer geek to figure out how to create them in the form of autos. They may already exist.
  24. I see a photo of Rocky and I. Glad you got my best side!
  25. Thank you, Wayne. I can also be reached by way of holygrailresins@gmail.com This should allow Rocky and I to be on the same page when there are questions for us. This is the name that I gave to a new venture. Thank you, Greg
