Looking for Superchargers
Greg Wann replied to CelticModeler's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-AMT-JOHNNY-LIGHTNING-FORD-GT-40-OPEN-BOX-MODEL-KIT-/162003319040?hash=item25b8267900:g:bZkAAOSwZQxW4edl I would suggest this kit. I have seen first hand the size of the supercharger on a 2004 GT 40. It is quite large and impressive. -
How did we manage to survive?

I grew up setting in the front seat on the fold down armrest between Dad and Mom in a 4 door 58 Buick Century. My three older brothers sat in the back seat. -
Modelhaus going, going Gone !!!!!!

There might be some mis interpretation here. The house, barn and property would not be part of the business sale unless you could afford to buy said buildings also. This is just so you would not have to move or disturb how the business is set up and operated. It would be less than a hundred feet to work. -
Don't you just hate it......

If I want something bad enough I just put a really big starting bid on it like $200.00. If they outbid me, well they can just pay. -
Matt, you are 6 miles South and west of me.

http://www.moonlightmodelers.com/ Yes, April 9th is Desert Scale Classic 12. Brad Noorgard told me today that some big names from Indiana are planning to attend. It is a really big show that draws a crowd from many states and gets magazine coverage. I do plan to attend this year. Due to a serious bout of depression last year I was not there.

Modelhaus going, going Gone !!!!!!
Greg Wann replied to WoodyRDC's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Frank, you may not see the value in it but I do. I know that Don and Carol are quite busy with the business and upon their announcing the closing in the near future it has just boggled their minds. There is a guy named Bob Zetterman who brings a big load of Modelhaus parts and sets up at a table at our Desert Scale Classic model car show and contest and does quite well. I have seen people set and end up with two pages of parts they want to buy while he is there and Bob will have parts for most everyones wish list. -
http://www.koalaproducts.net/polish.htm Yes, you might need to sand it down a bit. I found plastic polish and I highly recommend it. I have spent lots of money on plastic polish. Most I don't like. This is a great product but a bit pricey too. This stuff is good for polishing pant too. The product was developed by the companies owners.

I talked to Don the other day because I was curious. It is such a niche market a price for the business might be hard to figure out. He did tell me they would sell the five acres of land with the house and barn and whatever was business related. so, if anyone on this board is relocating to his area you might consider that. Carol does not like how the home is situated on the property. It must be a girl thing. He will even throw in a nice John Deere lawn mower. He has had some offers but he has no intention of training anyone. It will just get packed up and stored if the right person does not come along. Then he wants to do woodworking for fun and carol is going to rest. He is not just going to sell it to anybody. If I had lots of money I might be interested. They have kept the business as a 1:25 scale automotive business but I would break into other scales and subjects. I certainly would not be able to do it alone though. I would want someone doing 3D printing. Someone making decals and maybe awards too. Someone creating photo etch would be nice as well. I think a business could be started that could keep a few smart and talented people busy making a decent income. -

Modelhaus Not taking New Orders Once Again
Greg Wann replied to 59-Desoto's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Yes, I do realize all these points. There certainly is a lot to consider. Don and carol have kept the business as a 1/25 scale automotive business only. We could branch into other modeling subjects and scales of size too. I don't think Don and Carol really know how much to ask. If I suddenly won the lottery it would not even be a problem for me. -

I think this is the start of a really good thread. Customers ask me for parts sources. I just don't know. I used to have them contact a model club member but he asked me to please stop doing it so I respectfully did so. When it comes to cars I am just not the Shell answer man. I just make the parts good. People start talking to me about model kits and stuff about real cars. I start feeling embarrassed and get cross eyed from information overload. LOL When someone starts a conversation about sports I try to cut them off quickly so they don't waste their breath. I have no interest in it. I have an older brother that would watch sports on TV and I got screwed out of TV time. I did build a lot of models too. Getting that kit to him was the toughest $35.00 bucks I have made yet. It was 4 trips to the post office. It was in my mailbox with a return to sender sticker on it. I was not a happy caster! -
Modelhaus Not taking New Orders Once Again

Acquiring Modelhaus. I do have a genuine interest in that dream. I did contact them. Carol replied that Don and I could certainly talk about it. I asked her about the rumor of a group of investors buying the business. She replied that no such person or persons has shown any kind of interest in the business, just me. It has been sometime now that I inquired. I don't really have any money though. I certainly would not be able to do it alone. I would need a lot of help as I am uncertain how good of a business owner I could be. Doing what I do now is not easy with a full time job. I am 58 and would like to retire from the crazy job of being a plumber at Arizona State University. I work four, ten hour days and have Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday off. At least on Saturday and Sunday I don't have a bunch of bosses crawling up my butt to get stuff done. Friday is my Monday and we call it FALL APART FRIDAY. Pretty much on Friday at 1 PM the campus starts falling apart with plumbing related items either blowing apart or stopping up. There is only about ten guys for approximately two hundred buildings on and around campus that we do maintenance work in. By the time I get home I am pretty much too butt whipped to do any resin casting. I did get some done today but most of the day was spent running errands. All in all I get two good days of resin casting done out of seven. That is not really a very good turnout of product. I do make some money, but it is still in a hobby mode. I really would like for it to be much more. Bill Coulter told me that the Model Haus business is nearly a 24 - 7 operation and creates a six figure income. If you are sick that is just too darn bad. They may well have not had a vacation in years either. Bill lives in Ohio and occasionally visits Don and Carol. I have not rallied this idea to the forty one Moonlight Model car club and Cactus Car Model club members about being able to run such a business. Make it make money and remain in the black. I would like it if we had our own vacuum metalizing shop to chrome plate plastic parts. There are some plating businesses in the valley but I can't find one that does plastic parts. I personally think that is just weird since this part of the country is full of street rods and classic cars that have plastic parts that need chrome plated. There are plenty of really talented people in the two model clubs who could do the work too. We are mostly older folks who are retired or are getting ready to retire. There might be some members that are retired but don't have much of an income to really enjoy the model hobby. It could create something good for club members and the model hobby. There is a hand full of guys with a background in graphic arts and 3 D printing. I would need a shop doing laser cutting and 3 D printers that can make stainless steel parts. I would like a shop making photo etch parts too. It has been pointed out, what is Model Haus worth? Moving it would be a daunting task as well. Having it all under one roof might become some expensive overhead as well. But there are business expenses to right off too. The concept does interest me for certain. -

Thank you, Gary, you are all welcome. I do appreciate your posting the photos and the kind comments from you and Daniel. The Eleanor has become a desired item. It is cheap because I realize the original kit has PE parts that I can't make and are difficult to obtain. I am certain it will be difficult to source the parts to make a good build. But, then again most of you I imagine are talented enough to make it happen. -

http://www.rocketfin.com/model_car_links.html They have a website. There is a link in this list of other sites for modeling. There site is shut down though. -
http://www.pulsarprofx.com/ Hi Drew, Here is something you might consider having. There are a lot of steps though. You can turn an image into a waterslide decal. They sell another kit that is capable of making photo etch parts too. Kits are reasonably priced with your money back if you don't like it. Be sure to check out the humor page. There is some great stuff there.
