Pulling Trucks/Tractors
lapazleo replied to chevyfever2009's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's about it. Pulling vehicles are under represented in the modeling world. So many great subjects too. There are however many in diecast and resin even sleds from places like Gottman toys. -

possible Re-issue
lapazleo replied to JLDesignz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is a pic. Model Round Up and E bay usually have them for about the same price as the Revell kit. -

In that case the car carrier trailer AMT produced over the years would be a good start. It fits the time period you have in mind. -

Monogram 1/16th Kenworth Coming......
lapazleo replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
FYI the Monogram kit is basicly the Revell of Germany w900a kit simplified and in 1/16 scale right down to the v8 Cat engine. Monograms 1/16 scale kits build nice and look good but they are very simple and low on detail compared to 1/24,1/25 scale and even the old AMT 1/43 T nT kits. The reason for this is they were aimed at youth market as entry level kits. That being said with them being 1/16 scale there is tons of opportunity for super detailing. As far as the aftermarket goes they are a limited market that's why there isn't much available. At one time however Auslowe and some others in Australia had a lot of goodies for these kits as they were popular there. These kits are probably on the same detail level as Revell's (formerly Monogram's) 1/25 snap tite Pete 359 and KW w900. But it's still nice to see them again and the model makers paying attention to us. And a side note make sure have a lot of shelf space these things are big. -
The steps AMT used are prototypes that were only on a few trucks mostly for truck shows. I've only ever seen one truck with them. The correct style of steps are available from Porky at P & P vintage kits. You could also fill in the opening and use the small stirup steps that were standard. A quick google search of 1972 Freightliners will yield a gold mine of info.

To answer Craig Irwin's question. This style of trailer would have come in around the early 80s. As the kit is though it probably would not have transported new vehicles as set up. I'm not sure what brand it represents or if it's generic but it doesn't represent a new car transporter. While a rerelease would be nice unfortunatley based on Revells history the price will be close to the century mark. -
Q tip if I may reccomend Bremen hobbies in Bremen In. not far from Elkhart . They've been there since 1961 and always have a good selection of products. They are also a mom n pop store. Right on sr331 south of rr tracks on east side of street. Maybe an hour from Hudson. Being close to South Bend Mishawaka they have plenty of Round 2 kits in stock as well as Moebius kits as Dave Metzner is from they area. Pop is no longer living but mom and family are running the shop as it always was. Congragulation on good find up in Granger.

AMT 1/43 Scale "TnT Series" Truck & Trailer Kits
lapazleo replied to AzTom's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Yes these are great little kits would love to see them reissued. I always hoped AMT would have done 1/43 scale versions of all their trucks. They build up nicely hard to believe their 40+ yrs old designs. -
Smokey and the bandit 2
lapazleo replied to 72 Charger's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Correct the sleeper was a prototype very similar to the sleeper on IH's eagle broughm. It can easily be scratchbuilt. The trailer in part 2 was a Utility electronics trailer Yes it is a drop floor to increase cubic space as 53 footers han't happened yet. I've heard two stories as to the builder of the sleeper. Able body company or Mclaughlin. It would be nice see the part 2 truck modeled. -
White Freightliner info needed
lapazleo replied to Badluck 13's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually a lot fleets did run 24.5 inch rubber back then. I would guess those are 22.5s. Back in those days things weren't metric so you could have 10.00x20 11.00x20 10.00x22.5 11.00x22.5 11.00x24.5 and 12.00x24.5s there certainally were no lo pros for sure. The truck in the picture would be a great model. -
Does this come with Sleeper?
lapazleo replied to Mr mopar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
