  1. Neat good subject for the Round 2 AMT kit. Be sure to check out Tim's site "a tale of two stars"
  2. Good point you rarely see big bunks in Europe in England your limited how far you go unless your'e a transcontinental driver. So many new school drivers consider trucking a job not a lifestyle. Also weight sensitive operations need smaller bunks. We used to run coast to coast with little coffin sleeper cabovers solo and team we survived.
  3. Still looking for a clear pic. I do remember they had a service and emergency line like S cam brakes.
  4. I'll see if I can find some old pics.
  5. Yes they are correct many older AMT kits have what are called wedge brakes including the Freightliner. Wedge brakes are older technology that went away in the early 70s. The brakes you're probably more familiar with are called S cam brakes some AMT kits have those. Many older AMT kits have no steer axle brakes which was normal on tandem axle tractors till the laws changed in the early 70s. Basicaly on wedge brakes the air chamber pushes a wedge between the brake shoes forcing them against the drums. On S cam brakes the air chamber pushes on the slack adjuster to rotate the shaft with S cam on the end forcing the shoes against the drum much like the lobe on a camshaft pushes the push rod to open a valve. Sorry about the big answer for a simple question.
  6. Yes the signature 600 was the test bed for the ISX but they aren't quite the same. I was hopeing for a late model ISX. Auslowe's however can be changed a little to work. Oh and thanks Dave and Moebius.
  7. Yep anything goes. Alot of truck manufacturers had outside companies build their bunks.
  8. Actually all AMT kits with Cummins power came out before the big cam even existed. The Cummins formula 290 had the highest torque rating of all 290s at 930 lbs. The 290 as most 855 Cummins weighed about 2850 lbs. The dd 12v71 at its lowest rating was 390 hp with 1078 lbs of torque and weighed 3300 lbs. The term small cam wasnt used before the big cam came out after the introduction of the big cam all previous Cummins 855s were called small cams. The design of the cam follower plates even in model form is a tell tale sign between big and small cam engines. The Amt KW kits have the NTA engine in them wich have the vertical oil coolers and some timing and fueling things that would later be used on the big cam. Cummins engines are not as simple to figure out as you might think do to endless variations produced a good example would be the 250 there was a 743 cid 250 a 855 cid 250 and the super 250 at 918 cid there was even a 743 cid 290. Research on the web will yield a wealth of info. More than you would ever need for modeling.
  9. Is not Auslowes an older Signature 600 ?
  10. Ok resin guys how about a late model Cummins ISX the most common engine found in the Pro star. Oh the possibilities for decals too.
  11. based on porkys scale converter a 40 foot trailer 1/16 scale would be 30 inches.
  12. Both are from the 80s Cummins in AMT kits are from the 70s and even 60s
  13. Answer 1 big cam 315,350,365 or 400 answer 2 would be considered big cam
  14. That truck was on speed channel's pass time show. Sounded good but slow even by truck standards mostly due to the driver not knowing how to grab gears. Would be neat model though. Search for k100 aerodyne pics and it will come many times.
  15. A sightliner would be a cool resin piece in 1/24 or 1/25 there has (is) been one in 1/87 scale.I've seen a few with factory sleepers and a few converted to diesel power.
  16. Australia seems to be a hot bed for model trucking.
  17. It's great to see the faces and people behid the scenes.
  18. I've been looking for a pic of that truck. I remember when it was touring the country and all the ads in the magazines. If I remember right at the end of the tour they give it away in a drawing. It was pretty unique in those days now the blacked out look is common at truck shows. Would love to know the story on this one. Italeri's Heritage kit might be the base for a model of this special star.
