  1. Real or model? The answer: MODEL!
  2. Any reason why you're posting in such tiny type???
  3. The weathering looks pretty good, but you "weathered" over some of the chrome trim, the widow surrounds, the door handles and the windshield wipers!
  4. I agree on basswood. It has a very fine grain that looks in-scale at model car size. Hobby Lobby has a big display of all sorts of shapes and sizes. All you need to do is stain it and add some clear (I use water-based polyurethane). The stake bed of this truck is basswood, stained. Of course you'll want to use a different color stain on your pickup bed, but basswood works great at 1/24-1/25 scale.
  5. I saw that earlier today. RIP, Neil. I remember watching that event on TV as a little kid way back when.
  6. There is no such thing as "good" or "bad" art. Art is defined differently by everyone; my idea of good art might be at complete odds with your definition of what good art is, and vice versa. The argument of what is or isn't "good" art is a useless argument because there is no answer. Like I said earlier... Jim's work is what it is, and you either like it or you don't. There's no "right" answer and there's no justifying one's viewpoint, any more than a person could justify that their favorite color is the "best" color or their favorite music is the "best" music.
  7. Steampunk isn't everyone's cup of tea, but you have to admire the craftsmanship and skill that went into it. Like Rob mentioned, there's a lot of expertise on display in that work.
  8. It's an art genre. Take it for what it is, he's not pretending for one second that it's supposed to be a "realistic" model.
  9. Cars like that aren't bought to be driven, but as investments, like fine art.
  10. The car in the photo is a 1938 Terraplane Coupe. Who got it right: george53 sjordan2 46marty ChrisR Badluck13 Draggon G Holding Corvair Jim Foxer trogdor mr chips Kenny Jon Cole patami dimaxion bodeen 2012 Johnny PatRedmond thatz4u
  11. All you have to do is click "Edit" at the bottom of your original post. Then you can edit, add photos, whatever you want to do.
  12. The long, slow, drawn-out death of JoHan continues. Like the guys said, the site is history. But Okey keeps on going... and going...

  14. Easy. Forget about it and go about your life. When the urge to build comes back (and it will), then build. In the meantime, don't worry about it. It's a hobby... it's supposed to be fun. You can't force fun.
  15. Yep! If WWI fighter planes are your thing, they don't get any better than the kits on the Wingnut Wings site. Definitely worth checking out, there are none better at this scale (1/32).

    32' High Boy

Your photos are a bit dark, but from what I can see, that's a pretty slick looking hot rod. Nice work.
  17. I like it! I assume Jenni does, too! Just one question: No dirt on the exhaust system? How is that possible? (Psssst... paint the exhaust pipe openings flat black)...
  18. Agreed! A little contrast with the tire is a good thing. I've always liked gunmetal-colored wheels, they look good on most any color car. And just to be clear... Jim, remember, we're not slamming your work, just throwing ideas out there.
  19. That's what I was thinking! Who actually copied who??? Hmmmmmm???
  20. Politics in Illinos/Chicago? Total crap. Food? Well, we have "Chicago-style" pizza (mmmmmmmmmm!)... Chicago-style hot dogs (no ketchup! Ever!)... roast beef "sammiches".... and on and on. Yep, we got it goin' on food-wise, but the laughing stock of the country when it comes to political corruption, dirty deals, payoffs, bribes, and general sleaze.
  21. I love it. Beautiful model, very nicely done. I do agree that you need a little clutter in the bed, but that's easy enough to add. Very nice job!
  22. The later Pochers (F40, Testarossa and Porsche) are just a shadow of the Pocher "Classics." Waaaay less parts, much less detail. The aftermarket transkits for those models are pretty much a requirement if you want a detailed, accurate model. The transkits are expensive (they can cost as much as the kit itself), but they're worth it.
  23. That "circle the headlights with a string of LEDS" thing has got to be the goofiest styling gimmick to come along in a long time. I mean, yeah, fins were goofy, but at least there was an explanation/origin (stylists (and all the rest of us) were into rockets and space travel in the '50s and a lot of rocket/jet powered styling motifs like fins were popular then)... but what possible explanation is there for this dopey "ring around the headlights" thing?
  24. Exactly! The real thing is X number of inches long and X number of inches wide and X number of inches tall, etc. Divide by 25 and you have the scale size. It's not subject to "interpretation." The numbers are the numbers! Why is this simple mathematical concept so hard for the manufacturers to understand?
