Wal-mart has models again...
Harry P. replied to model-collector's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you guys want to talk about models at Walmart, that's fine. If you want to rant against Walmart, or complain about the economy, or talk politics, this is the wrong forum for that. -
Did you chop the top?

Just a thought about the U.S.
Harry P. replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't be so close-minded. The space program is responsible for all sorts of scientific and medical advances that filter their way into everyday life. The Mars probe will probably result in more scientific advances that wind up helping society in many ways. Yeah, they're not going to find little green men, but there are definite benefits to space exploration besides finding aliens! For example... I found this online: Under the Space Act of 1958, NASA has had a mandate to share all the information it has gained with the public. Here are a few of the practical applications that have resulted from technologies and information learned by space scientists: CAT scans MRIs Kidney dialysis machines Heart defibrillator technology Remote robotic surgery Artificial heart pump technology Physical therapy machines Positron emission tomography Microwave receivers used in scans for breast cancer Cardiac angiography Monitoring neutron activity in the brain Cleaning techniques for hospital operating rooms Portable x-ray technology for neonatal offices and 3rd world countries Freeze-dried food Water purification filters ATM technology Pay at the Pump satellite technology Athletic shoe manufacturing technique Insulation barriers for autos Image-processing software for crash-testing automobiles Holographic testing of communications antennas Low-noise receivers Cordless tools A computer language used by businesses such as car repair shops, Kodak, hand-held computers, express mail Aerial reconnaissance and Earth resources mapping Airport baggage scanners Distinction between natural space objects and satellites/warheads/rockets for defense Satellite monitors for nuclear detonations Hazardous gas sensors Precision navigation Clock synchronization Ballistic missile guidance Secure communications Study of ozone depletion Climate change studies Monitoring of Earth-based storms such as hurricanes Solar collectors Fusion reactors Space-age fabrics for divers, swimmers, hazardous material workers, and others Teflon-coated fiberglass for roofing material Lightweight breathing system used by firefighters Atomic oxygen facility for removing unwanted material from 19th century paintings FDA-adopted food safety program that has reduced salmonella cases by a factor of 2 Multispectral imaging methods used to read ancient Roman manuscripts buried by Mt. Vesuvius Most people do not give NASA or space research high priority when they consider what the government needs to fund. However, as seen here, NASA has provided much more than just information about the universe at large, but practical applications that have saved lives, improved the quality of life, and provided high-paying jobs in the private sector. The spinoffs listed here are just a part of what NASA and others have accomplished by sharing information and technology. -

Speaking of Mars... didn't we already land a rover on Mars a while ago? Is this landing the first one? I seem to remember we've already done it before. -

And you would have to leave plenty early... -
Nice work, I like your mods except for one thing: that horizontal crease on the doors and just ahead of the front wheels. That line should either have gone all the way through, front to back, uninterrupted... or smoothed out altogether. Don't like the way it's here, then not here, then here again...

Now if the next Olympics were held on Mars, that would be interesting... -
First Pic from Mars
Harry P. replied to Mercman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A Russian cosmonaut, an American astronaut, and a Martian were talking one day aboard a space station. The Russian bragged, "We were the first in space!" The American said, "Yeah, but we were the first on the moon!" The Martian said, "So what? We're going to be the first on the sun!" The Russian and the American looked at each other and shook their heads. "You can't land on the sun, you idiot! You'll burn up!" said the Russian. To which the Martian replied, "We're not stupid, you know. We're going at night!" -
PM sent your way.

Ok, this the THIRD time this has been posted in the last day or two. Enough already. -
I don't know where the "best" place to get it is, but this is one place. They have pretty comprehensive specs and you can download PDF brochures if you want to: http://www.freemansupply.com/tables/renshape.htm

It is easy! Don't know why you're having such a hard time. It's just copy and paste. Looks like you have it now.

In fotki, click on the photo's "Share" link, then go to the bottom of the list and click "More sharing options," then scroll down to the bottom of the page and where it says "Code for forums," copy that code and paste it here into your message window. -

retro and rat rods, just dont get it.......
Harry P. replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, words do have meanings... but the problem is they sometimes have different meanings for different people! Yours are pretty good definitions, but when the two are blended together into one car (as is sometimes done), things can get a little fuzzy. Really, though, arguing about what the term "rat rod" means is about as pointless as arguing about what the term "muscle car" means, because if you ask ten people, you'll probably get ten different answers. I don't think there is any one iron-clad, crystal-clear, no-doubt, we-all-agree-on-it definition of "rat rod." Like beauty, it's in the eye (and mind) of the beholder. So like I said way back at the beginning of this thread in answer to the original question, why over-tax brain cells trying to understand why some people like stuff that you don't like? Just like what you like, let others like what they like, and don't spend so much time and effort trying to rationalize people's likes and dislikes, because it can't be done anyway! -
