Resin casting question for the pros
ScottH454 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
What else will you want to cast parts of? The initial investment to get decent results can cost a few hundred dollars. So if you only want some rear ends then it might be cost-effective to put in a request to an established caster. That is how I have been deciding what my next parts will be is from forum requests. -
Rubbery/Flexible Resin Castings
ScottH454 replied to BDSchindler's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
BDSchindler, as I mentioned before I don't have a "Coyote" engine ready. I do have the kit with the engine used here but like you see it had a hole through the block. However, I do have a "426" shown that is available on eBay. At the least, you can see the quality comparison in the photo. You can see more of my work at action-modeler.com. Nothing goes out with pimples, voids. or flash an is always in-stock when listed. -
Rubbery/Flexible Resin Castings
ScottH454 replied to BDSchindler's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
From my experience when the resin goes bad it won't harden. I also notice fresh molds can have the first few parts soft an uncured. In this case I throw out these parts, not sell them to people. I wish there was a way I could inform those buying resin about quality. This is why I got into casting parts after I was burned. Don't ever buy from a caster with bubble voids or pimples on their product images. Even more so don't deal with casters that use the kit plastic for the product image cause there resin is so bad. -
Does anyone make a Coyote Engine?
ScottH454 replied to BDSchindler's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Outlaw Speed Shop Resin was doing a version last year but doesn't seem to be selling parts since then. Picture of his shown. I have been working towards casting a "Coyote" engine myself an so far have bought every year but the one I needed. From my research, the Revell 2013 Mustang Boss 302 with the green car on the box has a nice engine. However, looking at the intakes comparing your picture and Boss 302 they are different. Which style year are you trying to find? If I was to cast a complete engine it could take a couple of weeks. -
Need pics of 1/24 & 1/25 P/E air cleaners
ScottH454 replied to Monty's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
They also have them in a triangle. There are also parts metal cast that would be more dimensional. Just trying to help, we have to start somewhere. Maybe start with who else could have been doing photo-etch that long ago. -

I have some that are just photo etch tops that go onto resin pieces. These aren't gonna be for sale, you can image they where difficult to find once I knew of them. -
I think I could put together one for you, how many would you want. I have a box recast of the 90's Revell Top Fuel dragster Kieth Black engine with the molded on transmission. I was making them to make a detailed master in a bare block form so I don't have them listed anywhere. I don't have an oil pan yet but the rest I should have a mold of. What do you mean by fuel injected? I have the 14/71 blower with Carbon Fiber hat, Buzzard Catcher scoop, or Hilborn 4 tube that would still be fuel injected.

Hey Greg, I was curious where you sell your parts an how do you deal with smaller parts like mirrors or window frames where labor an shipping exceeds it's value.
-
Hey Greg, I found at least two things that work on the yellow coating. First is 91% rubbing alcohol which softens it up or makes it brittle enough to pick off the yellow with a pin. The second is soaking it in the original Westley's Bleche-Wite, you can find some at estate sales. I made these wheels for my 30 Model A.

Any interest in some E/T Dragmaster I just finished the mold for them. I can also cast them with an aluminum finish. Gonna try an cast the tires eventually. -
Yes there is or was someone doing this for flames. I tried it with frisket film but what I had was to rigid. Probably search YouTube becuase I'm pretty sure I seen it being done.

Wiring R&M distributors ?
ScottH454 replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
One of the old Johan kits, bought them as parts from eBay. Those in the photo are cold cast with aluminum powder which look way better in person. Actually the whole engine is my latest resin engine from action-modeler. Jon I bet you could just slide the boot over those tabs. -
Wiring R&M distributors ?
ScottH454 replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Well anyone have a photo of the one in question? I just cast an old Johan cap with decent prongs that lets me slide the boot over it. So no drilling necessary. I'm using 32awg wire an the heat shrink from https://tcsdcc.com. -

I seen mine in kennewick, Wa restocked with new stuff. I have plenty of the old stock so I was pretty excited. Got the revell 1/25 Challenger an seen the hemi dart there for next coupon. Looks like they do expect the coupons though with a $30 price. -
Model Cars Magazine, The Future Ahead Of Us
ScottH454 replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think what he is saying is that since he won't be focused on his back he can get back to the magazine. In order to get the next issue out he needs to make quick money. Then what issues he sells to stores would be enough to publish the next issue. The one issue a year was before so we don't know the rate of magazines in the future. Think I got 3 out if a two year subscription so it could be a lifetime subscription. -
Oh yeah that guy, should be other threads about him if you did a search. I have never bought from him as I'm also a caster. I would just say he is what is wrong with casters who resell. Most of his ebay listings use the original kit plastic parts for the photos. So he must not be able to get a clean cast worthy of a photo. You can still have air pockets in pressure castings so his claim says nothing about quality. What was it you where interested in, I have some stuff an what I don't I can add to my to-do list.

Canadian location for photoetched parts
ScottH454 replied to Heartattaq's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I sell on eBay an recently set up the global shipping program so it was easier to ship out of states. I had a Canadian make a $2.00 purchase an paid $18 for shipping. Only one of the three emails showed their total shipping, nowhere on the site does. So if I didn't bother checking an email I wouldn't have known what was charged. From what I gathered they are charge to ship to in states address then charged again to ship outside. Shipping to Canada is only $10 under 5 or 8 oz parcel. You might look for someone down here that can ship you your items. -
Ok well I can get that updated here pretty soon. I should have two sets cast. This week I have been getting more items packaged an ready to update counts this weekend. If there was anything else that interests you let me know.

Oh, such an old thread but I do make some resin kit ones that I thought where pretty decent. If anything I expected them to be good for the ends for scratch building. My issue do people want to spend $2.25 for 2?
