  1. Consider spraying the decals with some paint designed to preserve old decals before removing them from the decal sheet. As for the yellowing, I have heard some builders taping them to the inside of a window facing the sun. I haven't tried this, but the builder who suggested it said it worked for him. The problem I encountered was what I felt was the "glue" on the decal turned to something resembling brown mud. I used wetted Q-Tips to remove the residue and they seemed to lay down with just a touch of Solvaset using a clean paint brush. After they have dried for a day or so I lightly went over the decals with clean water on a paper towel and again allowed to dry. This removed any remaining Solvaset and any other residue. The Solvaset can leave a residue that shows up when you spray the clear. Covered everything with Tamiya TS13 Clear. I waited about half an hour to give it a second coat. My concern was that the decals may not have enough of the original adhesive to get the decals to stick and the clear would bond them to the body and protect them later.
  2. Should you use the Round 2/AMT '58 Impala, the front suspension has three different settings on the spindles so the end should be easily adjusted up or down. The kit includes a blower setup and has slicks. The body has an outline on the inside to enlarger the rear wheel well openings if that would be of interest. I remember a real nice set of steel wheels including wider ones for the slicks. I can't remember for sure, but I think there are some chrome wheels as well.
  3. Great looking build. Nice job on the body decals, and there are a lot of them.
  4. Great looking Black Widow. The engine looks very nicely done.
  5. There are several decal sheets for gauges that would give you a good face. I have used small sections cut from the kits spruce that are the correct diameter for the tach housing and sanded the edges to round off the back side. Use a small metal or plastic pin for mounting.
  6. I agree, the different color paints are common in the OEM. Look at some old pictures of the subject you're building in the style you are going for. You can find old OEM color charts that will give you some color ideas you may not have thought of.
  7. There have been several suggestions on the Forum by builders that have worked with older kit decals. There are several different simple things that can be done and save the original decals. None of them cost much more than your time. I used the original decals from a 1970's BRE Racing Datsun 510 and while working with them I was very close to giving up, but when finished they worked great, and you wouldn't know they were that old.
  8. Please keep my offer of pictures in mind if and when you go ahead with the different style.
  9. They have gotten the last dime from me they will ever see. As I have mentioned the problem here, I will trash them to whoever may ask about buying from them.
  10. I agree but they have your money, and the delivery guys are a subcontractor. The service manager tried to say that by rolling the chairs onto their front to work on the seat backs had somehow damaged the chair, which he hasn't even seen. I mentioned that I used the same procedure that the delivery guys used to install the seat backs, but that didn't seem to matter to him. As I mentioned I'm no longer going to purchase anything from Lazy-Boy ever.
  11. Beautiful looking color and finish. I like how you varied the interior colors on the seats and trim. The Chevy Rally wheels just look right on any Bowtie vehicle.
  12. As others have mentioned the surface looks great. I used this same color a couple of years ago, spray can, on a build of the Dodge Charger we had at the time. The problem maybe that there is so much metallic in the paint it is hard to keep it agitated enough to keep the particles in suspension to get an even metallic look. The pictures look good but that's not the same as being there.
  13. Great showroom style build.
  14. That is a great looking Starliner.
  15. The yellow car AMT Pro Shop Bel Air should provide the correct body. The others are nice kits, but the body side chrome trim isn't as accurate as the Pro Shop kit. The correct six lug wheels can be found along with the Fuel Injection engine in the Revell Black Widow kit. Six lug wheels can be found in many of the GM truck kits and they would be accurate since that is what the Chevrolets from GM with the factory race suspension used.
  16. I agree with Bill. both are great kits and I have built them both. I think the main reason for building one over the other come down to what it is you're trying to make of it. The earlier AMT kit was considered "State of the art" at the time. Never liked that term, but it is what it is. While the hinges for the doors can be a little fiddly so is the opening trunk on the Revell kit. Doesn't mean you can't just glue them shut if not needed. In some respects, the separate chrome side trim on the Revell kit may offer a time saving, there are a bunch of little mounting tabs designed to pass thru mounting holes in the body and paint buildup may offer a fitment issue. The AMT kit does offer more build options than the Revell, but again it's what you're trying to build. The suspension ride height is easier to adjust on the AMT kit. Both offer well detailed Impala bodies and interiors. While it is only my opinion, I feel that for a showroom stock build either one would work just fine. The Revell kit offered some would be 20 in. wheels and low-profile tires as an option. The AMT has a couple of wheel and tire options more along the line of a 15 wheel and if building something like a day 2 or anything involving say Drag Racing the AMT would provide a wider range of options. And finally, how much do you have to pay to buy either one? Should you be able to buy them both at what you feel is a reasonable price I would suggest buying them.
  17. Beautiful looking finishes. Watching your build will help since now I will have to build one as well. I like the open roof since the interior is hard to see with a roof panel in place.
  18. The color and the finish on the paint is exceptional looking. Great interior detailing.
  19. Great looking Dune Buggy and the big metal flake paint job brings back some memories.
  20. I agree with everyone else on the engine appearance. What color did you use on the Holly Carb?
  21. On the subject of state patrol cars, and trucks. A couple of miles down the road from where we live, Ks has some sort of service building set way off the highway. I have noticed several different state vehicles coming and going and think they may be fueling vehicles as well as a large metal building where they could be servicing them as well. I have seen one, there may be more, Dodge Charger that is a lighter silver than what they often use but with a blur roof and the top of the trunk. Odd looking and makes the car very noticeable. The KHP seems to be using more Dodge Durangos in black, white, or charcoal with only a small shield on the door but the tubular front bumper arrangement sort of gives them away. The newest Chargers seem to be mostly white with minimal markings and the tubular bar front guards. The locale cities seem to use mostly the Ford SUVs with the "shadow" reflective side markings and the use a more conventional Puch bar front ends.
  22. During our resent move, the downsizing sort of thing that needed to be done at this point in our lives, we ordered and received after a couple of months wait a pair for living room recliners. These were ordered from Lazy-Boy, a company that we have used in the past for many years and have in the past provided good service with no issues. This time was anything but acceptable. The contract delivery guys bring the chairs into our home and the backs had to be installed on the chairs. The first guy gets his done and takes pictures of the chairs and disappears to their truck. The second guy is struggling to get the seat back aligned and installed. I suggested he get the first guy to help him since he seemed to have no problems. Guy #2 manages to get the back on, and it looks fine, and he leaves. I tryout the chair and the seat back just doesn't feel right, and the reclining position is different from the first chair. Within a 20-minute window after delivery I call the store manager and tell him of the problem. The store manager says that I have to call the companies 800 number to schedule a service call and indicates that it may cost us if we have done anything to damage the chairs. The service department gives us an appointment three months in the future. I fiddled with the seat back myself and got it installed finally. One of the four mounting brackets for the seat back was installed off by maybe a half an inch so nothing was lining up back there. When the service called to say they were coming out I explained that it was not needed since I had corrected their error in assembly. That didn't sit well with him, but since I no longer intend to purchase any of their products in the future based on their customer service, which I also mentioned to the "Brain Surgeon" on the phone. They aren't going to go broke with the loss of my business, but on the other hand I will only spend my money with those that appreciate my business and are polite about it.
  23. We moved about a year and a half ago and had to buy a new ref. - washer & dryer. At least the place we delt with was up front about not knowing when the units we wanted would even be available. We just bought what they had that were as close as possible to what we wanted.
  24. The supply issues with home appliances have been going on since Covid. The only suggestion I could offer when buying appliances, Ifg they don't have it in stock and ready to deliver look at what they do have or keep shopping.
  25. Great looking color combination with a nice paint finish. Cleanly done trim.
