  1. Had the same problem a few years ago. I found a '61 Valiant that I built back then. Wanted to strip it and redo the paint. The body had the same reaction. This was a regular AMT model. I think any model more than say 20 years old you just have to sand it by hand. I was left with a body that was more like a potato chip than anything else.
  2. Most if not all of the bleed thru an be eliminated with a very light coat of clear before spraying the secondary color.
  3. Can be done rather easily with plastic or aluminum tubing, the center section is the only rear challenge.
  4. Nice build, I like the Mexican blanket seat cover.
  5. Thanks for the heads up on the tail lights and the wheels. The part #48 I think are for stock height spindles and the #49 look like a lowered height. I'm using the #49's since I usually lower my builds anyway. As for the air cleaners, I think that there is an overlap between the Ventura and the upcoming Catalina. This may explain the unmentioned part #49 and #93 air cleaners. If Moebius stays true to form we will see a NASCAR edition at some point. I can see where they could get as many or more sales out of this kit and various versions of it than they saw with their Hudsons.
  6. Great looking build. I like the way you blended the color together.
  7. Looks great. I'm in the middle of the same kit now, appreciate the inspiration.
  8. Like the grill treatment.
  9. I have to agree with you about the music these people play with the video. We each have our preferences about music and it should never be loud enough to give someone a head ache.
  10. The wheels you are looking at are all steel with a polished trim ring and dust cover. I was in the retail end of car dealership management for many years starting in the early '70's. Thru '83 one of my duties was ordering new Chevrolets for inventory. The wheel you are looking at was a popular option and or standard on the high performance models. IE: Chevelles, Camaros, El Caminos. but not Monte Carlos. They where all "15 diameter and 7" wide. They where very heavy and in fact the bare wheel could weight almost as much as the same 15" X 7" Rally wheel and tire. OEM they where usually shades of silver and usually body colored on the Z-28 when reintroduced in '77. There was a "polyformed" wheel that was an option for the Camaro Berlinettas but they where a 14" X 7" wheel and also very heavy. I was not ordering in '72, but I do remember a few SS454 Monte Carlos with raised letter tires with the Rally wheel. I think what may have happened in the case of the sales brochure the print lead time to have them in the dealerships before the vehicle is available. In the time from when GM would give the pictures a print for the brochure to the printer the production side drops an option because of supplier or design issues. At that time it would happen more than you would think. I hope that helps on the wheel. But the model would look good with these wheels.
  11. The windshield on the top left may have come from the original AMT '57 Chevrolet. The kit had the option of a chopped roof at one time. The underside of the roof was scored to show where you would cut the top posts and the top its self into four pieces. The raised portion of the "glass" was to fell in the roof so that the posts would lineup. You would have to mask off the windshield and rear window before painting. The top right looks like the same part with the vent windows removed. The bottom left looks like one of the hood scopes from an early 3 in 1 kit. The hood with the FORD lettering on it looks like it maybe for a truck model. The blue hood maybe for a mid to late sixties Dodge or Plymouth, but I'm guessing on that. The last hood is for a Cougar, a '68 I think.
  12. Everything Snake said plus the windshield is smaller than the opening. Just make your own window moldings around the windshield and it should be alright.

    BMW Z4 GT3

    Very realistic looking build.

    '71 Hemi Cuda

Great build, I love the color.
  15. Great build, the reflection on the body sides in the pictures show what a great paint job you did.
  16. Looks like something that was parked outside for a long time before you got your hands on it. Great weathering, very believable. I would like to do an engine like this on a Hudson build, where did you get the head and the blower setup ?
  17. You really got the look of a nice daily driver from that time period. Every one has a favorite Tri Five, mine is the '56.
  18. Tyler, Are sure your a beginner ? I've seen your two paint jobs and the detail work on this engine sure looks like you have a lot more modeling experience than most beginners. This is turning out just as good as your dune buggy.
  19. As others have mentioned, the raisers for the carbs are way to big. At one time some VW engine builders were using much shorter raisers to create a plenum between the carb and the heads. I would suggest you consider either shortening or even removing the raisers altogether. The air cleaners are a little over sized and something like the small air cleaners used on the Pontiac Tri-Power set ups might be a better fit. That way it should clear the body and still give you the look of a high performance engine. I think the instructions for the front suspension and the brake drums in particular are a little misleading. You paint job looks great.
  20. You're off to a good start. I see that you are using the Pegasus wheels and tires. I built one a few years ago and I can tell you if you haven't figured it out yet the inner fenders are going to need some surgery. The rear are fairly easy, just tub the rear wheel wells in the bed. The front will need the inner fenders reshaped also.

Your scratch building and detail, rust is unbelievable.
  22. HGTV used to have a regular series on homes that had served a much different purpose when first built. They had some very interesting homes built from mostly old commercial buildings. Being an old car guy I always harbored a desire of converting an old car dealership. You know, a large area to work on old cars with living quarters attached.
  23. Very interesting ! What did you use for the see thru screen on the rear deck ?
  24. Great build. Your color choice gives it a more contemporary look.
  25. Just a thought, you will want to be very carful masking the rear panel. When you remove the tape you might remove the foil also, Another suggestion on the bumpers and the glass, try Future Shine on both. You should try it on scrapes first to see if it gives you the look you're after. With the glass you will want to make sure there is no lint or finger marks. I usually dip the windows in a small container of Future then dab the bottom edge on a paper towel to remove the excess. The bumpers can be done the same way or just brush on. This will make the glass clearer and easier to dust off in the future. The area between the moldings and the tail lamp moldings would normally be a painted some what flat finish silver. I only bring this up since it looks like you're going for a stock look. Beyond that it could be what ever you wanted to be, chrome - polished aluminum - engine turned aluminum or painted.
