  1. Is that the Mekon driving that car?
  2. Really good project to follow Les, apart from Photobucket screwing your photos up with their hideous watermark obliterating much of your pictures.
  3. Don't know about how Dave can conclude that content in the early issues would have limited relevance to a contemporary readership. Fact or just Dave's personal opinion? On what basis is he making that statement? Before I get verbally castigated, I am fully aware of the developments in kits, accessories, paints, materials and technology related to this hobby, having been at it since the 60's. But with the amount of older kits that get continuously reissued down the years I would imagine that reviews that were done at the time would still be relevant, and newer generations of modellers wou!d find find the articles of the day interesting reading about how long established builders detailed and finished their models without all the off the shelf stuff we take for granted today to make our modelling easier.
  4. Very nice diorama. I like the way that a slice of tree truck was utilised for the base. This can really be described as 'weathering' as most modellers refer to wear and tear as weathering.
  5. Too much time to do! Too expensive! Not enough personnel! Underestimation of the scope of the job! Probably no one keen enough to scan and archive all the copies! CD's DVD's gone the way of the Dodo! Cannot argue against the cases for all the negativity. But you never know? Perhaps the International Model Car Builders Museum who must have the most extensive and complete collection of MCM just might (just might) be able to interest some retiree volunteers who live in the Salt Lake City area to take on such a task and use it as a social get together or something. But somehow, I'm not expecting a positive reaction to this suggestion either. LOL. Or maybe Greg as CEO who probably also has every copy of the magazine might be able to enlist some volunteer retirees in sunny Honolulu to scan the magazines and create a digital archive as a social activity.
  6. Nice progress! This kit dates back to the 60's I believe when first released by Lindberg. I think Revell did a run of this kit some years ago too.
  7. Francois, thanks for coming back with the chrome marker information.
  8. Stealth technology has nothing on the model kit builder getting a kii into the house unnoticed!
  9. Very nice model Paul. I have been trying to locate one of these Renwall Bugatti. Anyone got a glue bomb even if is only a body with some bits missing that I could restore? Would like to build one to give to the Bugatti Trust Museum over here in the UK.
  10. Very interesting project / concept car taking shape here.
  11. I'd forgotten about the Broadspeed ones Les. The model spec that I cannot remember I am almost sure was a factory built road car. I am going to have to look up about Jags built on the XJ6 body style. It might be the 308 that I might be thinking of. Incredible to think that this particular body style originated in the sixties and carried on with subtle changes right through to the nineties. I read that Jaguar dismissed the idea of bonnet (hood) louvers when they uprated the engines as they would spoil the appearance of the car. They set about uprating the radiator and cooling system instead to retain the car's smooth lines. A 1/24 th scale kit has never appeared of any versions of this luxury saloon despite its longevity.
  12. A very nice conversion and not detracting too much from the look of the original vehicle. Not sure about the appearance of the louvers on the hood though unless they were actually necessary for cooling purposes and not just decorative. I believe that Jaguar themselves made a very up rated car of similar styling but cannot remember their actual model designation or specification for the car. It may have had a V12 engine fitted and many of the body panels replaced with aluminium. There may be a Jaguar enthusiast out there who can fill in the details. Those big Jag saloons have been around a while, and the styling looks good, even today. I believe that there may have been a Daimler version using this body style named a double six as it had the V12 engine.
  13. Francois, you forgot to say the brand name of the chrome markers you bought that cost much less than the Molotow when you kindly responded to my question.
  14. Look out! It's the Boss! Oh! It's not a model of Bruce Springsteen after all! Joking apart! A really nice Mustang model Erock.
  15. Amazing progress with all the extra detailing being done! The liquid chrome markers you bought and found impressive. Molotow or another make?
  16. That may be Daniel, but the magazine and whatever its predecessor was before have never been sold over the counter over here in the UK. I only got to learn of MCM a few years back when I bought Cranky's book Rats, Rods n Rust when I saw the mag mentioned inside. Scale Auto and Fine Scale Modeler were always sold over the counter here. SA has gone, as you probably know, but FSM is still available, albeit a shadow of its former self. As for SA being absorbed into FSM, it did not raise the Auto content in that magazine or help it get bigger as far as I could see. I understand that Model Car Builder Magazine ceased production some time ago. Another one never available in the UK. Bob and Tom, As the magazine layouts would all have been done and stored on computer, maybe a digital archive could be created if none of the work has been deleted. Scanning past issues would be a big effort. There might just be a retired reader out there who has every copy and the time and willingness to volunteer for such a task.
  17. I think that Tamiya missed a trick in not making a Jurassic Park version of this jeep. Maybe we will see the kit reissued again. It would be nice as the Tamiya kit is the only one of this particular jeep version.
  18. Another way if the tyre is hollow is to slit the tyre just enough to insert a flat piece of material inside enough to push the walls of the tyre out in the desired position to give the appearance of a flat. You may have to cut a bit out of the bottom of the tyre to get it to lay properly on the ground when fitted. Plastic card used for this sort of packing out will eventually react chemically with the tyre if it is made of vinyl so use something else like a flat piece of metal or thin plywood to insert.
  19. I would think that most automotive metallics in aerosol form would give a scaled down metal flake effect. The Alclad candies over craft aerosol gold, silver, bronze and copper metallics could yield some interesting metal flake effects too.
  20. Plenty of chromes about. Molotow, Alclad and AK just to name some of the most popular airbrush types. Now Revell are wading onto the scene with their aerosol chrome too. It will be interesting to see how durable it is when handled compared with the others, and if they will also supply it in bottles to airbrush at some time. Read somewhere that the Revell aerosol chrome will retail at £35 in the UK. Now that is really expensive considering the normal overspray going to waste when using an aerosol. From my experience the chromes are all on the soft side. Sealing can also be a bit of a minefield finding the right one that will not dull your chrome finish. There are of course many craft aerosols purporting to give a shiny chrome like finish when you see the 'chrome' strip stuck around the lid, but in actual use many of them finish looking more like the surface of sheet aluminium.
  21. Posts not saving are my bugbear. On more than one occasion I have tried to save a post I have typed in for the 'save' to fail. Sometimes I can recover it by toggling to a previous page and back again and it will allow me to save it. But what really gets my back up is having done this sometimes it will still not save and then ask me for my email address as well as checking to see if I am a robot. (And this is happening whilst I am already logged in to the forum! Weird!)
  22. To the viewer or the sender? Most just put up maybe a maximum of three of four pictures at a time so I cannot see direct posting being any problem. Having to go into a hosting site to be able to select pictures and then load them onto a forum just protracts the process as far as I see it, plus the fact your pictures are at the mercy of that hosting site when they change any policy.
  23. That's a beauty Tomasz!
  24. I found that having to use photo hosting websites in order to download pics onto other forums a real pain in the rear. At least I can upload pictures directly to this site. Also, I guess that most of us know about certain hosting sites that shall be nameless who have ruined many forums by either locking contributors pictures or spoiling them by placing a company watermark right across them.
  25. I wasn't suggesting that you actually do Lennon's Rolls David, just if it was feasible using two of these kits. There may be more of these kits kicking around than perhaps you might think. My guess is that the kit is so crude there may be many just gathering dust in the stashes of disillusioned buyers. You are certainly making a silk purse from a sow's ear with your model. It is a shame that no one has ever made a decent kit of the Phantom with that bodywork. More elegant than the Silver Shadow that followed it on, and no kit of that car ever being done at all. Probably the RR licencing might have been too prohibitive. Ref the chrome issues......Have a look at Revell's new chrome spray.
