  1. 1/24th scale like the others in their snap kit cars range. A bit Lego like but some have a bit of potential. Wish Airfix had done them with the same snap kit approach as Revell and Lindberg a bit more like conventional kits.
  2. Very interesting thread Matt, and the bit of history about the car being originally red and hastily having all the outer bodywork painted in British Racing Green in order to compete. That grille assembly took a bit of doing but looks so effective on the model. Apart from the Sebring MGC trans kit, I believe that C1 also make an MGB Coupe body for those wanting to build a standard road car by retro fitting the Aoshima kit that has done the rounds being issued also by Revell at one time.
  3. This chrome product looks to be very good. Great job on refurbishing the chrome helmet Derek. I have been using a UK made product C1 Polishing Powder. It can be buffed straight onto a gloss black for the best chrome effect, but with a bit of experimentation on other base colours different effects can be achieved. Once buffed to a shine the surface is resilient to handling, unlike spray on chromes that do need to be sealed afterwards. C1 has a website and make some really nice resin trans kits too.
  4. Look forward to seeing your 1/6th scale build whatever that might be!
  5. Looks like the beaten metalwork is thin copper sheet. Nice to see a model that utilises some kit items and made into something special with engineered parts. It is always interesting to see how different modeller resolve problems when making parts from scratch. Did the Jaguar engine come from the Revellogram kit or as it machined from metal? I will be following this project.
  6. Brilliant build Mark. This has been a most interesting and informative thread. I believe that Lola were based on Huntingdon about 25 miles of so from where I live in England. Not sure if they set up shop in the USA as well as in the UK. You probably have a lot of history about the company from having thoroughly researched your model. Have you already decided on your next project? Will you be going the 1/12th scale MFH route for your next model, scratch building or super detailing up a more conventional kit like this one?
  7. Lovely models Manfred. Is the model at the back of your last post made from the Occre kit?
  8. The Unimat 1 modular machine might be a good starting point if looking for an inexpensive but adaptable miniature machining tool that is perfectly adequate for most modeller's needs doing what most of us might want to on here. A quick look on the web should show its versatility. If however going down the more engineered model route then a more dedicated miniature lathe like a Proxxon, Sherline or Unimat 4 May b the better choice.
  9. I think you are right about not using photo etched Thomas, as you have already proved. Thanks for the feedback on this. The ones you made look really good on your model.
  10. I thought that perhaps those fasteners could be done in photo etched stainless steel in two parts each. The circular part with a hole in the middle to take the shaped outer piece with the lower part long enough to precisely go through the hole and into pre drilled holes in the car panels themselves. Once epoxied into place they might be stronger than 3D printed resin parts to take the wiring. Craft beading wire might be best as it is relatively soft.
  11. Even with laminate flooring it never ceases to surprise me where parts can 'ping' off to! I'm in my 70's, still modelling after all these years and hopefully still turning out reasonable stuff. Yes, I have had to assist myself with magnifying spectacles and boost up the lighting with LED lamps to keep going whilst I can but still enjoy the challenges of scratch building as well as intricate kits and detail work. Not quite succumbed to Netflix or Disney streaming just yet however!
  12. Brilliant idea and so simple!
  13. Thomas. His website is named Unobtainium. He has a number of interesting things on there. I am not sure if the new Bugatti parts are listed yet on it, but you will be able to contact him by email. Have a look on the Britmodeller forum. I think he has showed what he is doing on there. A Bugatti search should find his posts and you may be able to send a PM to him from there. Noel
  14. Andrew mentioned lack of sidewall detail on the tyres on the kit. Many kit manufacturers these days do not mould on the tyre makers brand names due to copyright issues and licencing would be prohibitive cost wise. This is a fantastic build, beautiful and very well detailed and finished. AMF model cars is a new name to me and have some interesting things on their website.
  15. Looking good Thomss. I believe that Nick of Unobtainium is making 3D printed panel wire fasteners for this kit, and some other pieces are in development.
  16. That makes sense Peter. Foil would make the best barrier as it is metal. BMF might be a bit expensive used in this way so I might try cutting strips of kitchen foil and using micro sol foil adhesive. It will be a bit thicker than BMF. Should work ok for this application.
  17. That is why I paint the wheels where the tyres fit eventually to form a barrier. kind of!
  18. I still have my old imperial micrometers from my apprentice days before we went metric back in the seventies. This thread reminded me that the inch system is still alive and kicking in the US by the way you guys are describing your card thicknesses in thous. My card gets marked in metric increments, although I still often picture things in my mind in inches. Old habits die hard I guess!
  19. Those carbide bits are originally designed for use in a CNC machine for drilling vertically into printed circuit boards. They are very brittle and have to be used carefully as any side pressure will cause a breakage if twiddling by hand. The inexpensive carbon steel drill bit sets are generally good enough for hobby use as a rule. I think Mike was unfortunate with his blue pack from Amazon to find them blunt.
  20. I mark mine with the actual thickness rather than a numbering system.
  21. Strange how some unlike plastics, resins, and so on can react when in contact. Vinyl kit tyres if left in contact with styrene parts has an adverse chemical reaction. I found out the hard way when I opened a kit after a couple of years storage. I keep both separated now.
  22. Eduard have a good reputation. The latest tooled Airfix P51 has had good reviews. I don't know if Zoko Murei do one. Their aircraft kits are outstanding.
  23. Why not go into the IPMS USA forum. Loads of guys on there into P51's who know the ins and outs of all the available kits.
  24. Why not make one from real leather? An old black leather glove or wallet will give you the material. Or even a worn out black trainer shoe.
