What do you drive?
The70judgeman replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Buick hasn't made a decent car since 1987...GN's and GNX. Seemed to be their last hurrah IMO. Never was much of a Puick fan except for the '70 GSX, GN's, and GNX's. -
Making real wire wheels in all scales
The70judgeman replied to Plastheniker's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Arnold and Darren are right...MCM should dedicate a feature article on this. I'm sure many more of us would appreciate that. I'll admit I don't have a subscription and I don't buy every issue, but if this technique was featured in the magazine, that would be a keeper. -
Russian dash-cams
The70judgeman replied to charlie8575's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think Gregg and Quick GMC nailed it best. With all the insurance scams and people just looking for a quick buck, drivers have been installing cameras in their cars as a "CYA" thing to prove their innocence against a scammer. -
Can you name the plane ? The car?
The70judgeman replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well...it wasn't that hard. I just looked up experimental jets from the '50's and the plate on the car says 1958. Plus, I'm kind of a Pontiac fan too! -

I feel the same way about Pontiac. My wife had a similar '97 Cutlass, but gold, until late 2007 though. -

The plane is the X-13 Vertijet(experimental) and the car is a 1958 Pontiac Star Chief. -

Nice truck Steve. All it needs is....well, nothing! Except the for the care and respect it deserves. Enjoy it! -
Automotive Car Books? Who Collects?
The70judgeman replied to mrknowetall's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've been collecting automotive, as well as aircraft and train books, over the last 20-25 years. I'd take a picture of the book shelf, but the shelves recently collapsed under the weight of the books. They're now just stacked on the floor in a bedroom. I use them a lot as reference while building models. -
Try www.modelempireusa.com. I believe they have Ken's Fuzzi-Fur. They don't sell a whole lot of it and you may luck out. They may have a few vials. Get the phone # from the website and give them a call. **Went on their site to the online catalog...scroll down to page 56 for the Fuzzi-Fur. $2.29 ea. + shipping.

I did the same thing last year. It's in the "under glass" section. At least you won't need decals as the car was decal delete. Only thing is the MM Fathom Green didn't look right...it wasn't dark enough and had too much metallic in it. I ended up stripping the hood/body and used Dupli-Color Perfect Match BGM0518 GM Emerald Green Metallic and cleared with Tester's One Coat "Wet Look" Clear. It looks a lot closer to the Brewster Green.

Hobby shop guide
The70judgeman replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here are two that I frequent most: 1. Greenfield News & Hobby 2. 6815 W Layton Ave, Greenfield, WI 53220 3. This is a little bit of everything store. Plastic models (cars, trucks, ships, planes), RC (cars, trucks, planes, boats, helicopters, and parts), slot cars, paint, tools and supplies, building material (plastic and wood), art department, rockets, various classes, LOTS of magazines and books, trains, and some toys. 4. www.greenfieldnewsandhobby.com 1. Model Empire 2. 7116 W Greenfield Ave, West Allis, WI 53214 3. This is more of a hobby only type store. Plastic models (cars, trucks, ships, planes), vintage model kit section, die-cast in various scales, slot cars and an in-store track (w/track time rental), rockets, trains, building material (plastic and some wood), decals, tools and supplies, lots of P/E parts, Jimmy Flintstone Resin bodies and kits, model magazines, and paint. They also have an on-line catalog, as well as an annual paper catalog to order from. You'll also see them at local and regional car shows/swap meets selling models. 4. www.modelempireusa.com -

Went to a LHS yesterday and picked up a couple bottles of Floquil CN Orange #11. Also, the store bought a model collection and I grabbed a Jo-Han '70 Plymouth Superbird right off the cart before it went on the shelf. It was still factory sealed, although pretty ratty, and I payed about the average price for it. It's a newer kit and the mold is showing its age and use...lots of flash.

Revell Customer Service
The70judgeman replied to Rick Schmidt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just got some parts that were missing from a kit in the mail today myself. Shot them a request early last week and they're here today. As mentioned before....great service. -

Got a Pro Photo Studio earlier this week. It's 24"x24" tent with 4 back grounds, 2 lights, camera stand, and white photo table. A '69 Super Bee arrived this morning in the mail. I got 3 books from my wife. She bought them from 1/2 Priced Books. I took pics, but can't seem to be able to post them here. Don't know what's up with Photo Bucket and attaching files from my pics isn't working either. If I figure it out I'll edit this post.

You driving up through Milwaukee(I-94)? There's a couple of good hobby stores not far off the freeway. One close to 94 and the other close to the 894 by-pass. If you have the time and you're willing to stop, I'd like to meet up and talk to you about driving as a career...ups and downs, schooling, good companies to drive for, and what not. If you can't, that's ok.

One reason this place is so great!
The70judgeman replied to Kit Basher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've learned plenty myself from others here. Great ideas, tips, and tricks. Plus awesome builds to look at. -
Stupid things we do.
The70judgeman replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I recently used solvaset, by accident, to glue some pieces together. The funny part was I tried three or four times to glue the pieces together before I realized the bottle wasn't the Plastruct Bondene I intended to use. I thought the glue went bad. -
Nice to see one other than Carousel Red for a change...although I'm building one in that color.

I'd like to collect more, but what I want are usually in the high $200 to $400 range and I'm not willing to spend that much on them. So, I only have one that I managed to get for less than $50...the 1970 GTO in red. It's definately not a 10, but it's in really good shape. Maybe a 6 or 7(1-10 scale) with very minimal chrome fade, no scratches or cracks, and clear glass.

If you're not planning on actually painting the script, a black or grey (slightly darker than the engine color) wash would make the script pop. Even the other details too and give some depth to the engine detail.
