When bad things happen to good cars
The70judgeman replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
@Ray- Actually the Sublime Green Charger was sent to GYC. They're already working on it and have posted pics on FB. The problem with the "winged" cars, Daytona and Superbird, is there really isn't any safety structure behind the nose and that pic really proved it....flat as a pancake. -
@Bill- I wouldn't say restorers get it wrong on the springs of 1:1 restored cars. Often, the springs settle in after driving the car awhile and that corrects the ride height issue.

When kit scavenging gets bad
The70judgeman replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just a little note to yourself of what is missing from a particular kit right on top of everything inside the box. Same for if you added part(s) to a kit and maybe what you planned to do with it. -

New Car Quiz
The70judgeman replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
@Jeff & Carl- Another "at a glance" difference of the Chevelle's is the door vent windows on the '68. They were omitted from '69 on. Just for an instance...it is also the easiest way to tell, at a glance, the difference between a '68 & '69 GTO when you can't see the taillights. Otherwise, they look VERY similar from the front and side. -
New Car Quiz

89%....dang Ford's/Mercury's and '60's Barracuda's. -
Plymouth Barracuda Concept
The70judgeman replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
@Mike- Thanks for the links. The first one...absolutely no resemblance to anything and just plain ugly. The second one...some familiar features, but nothing I'd consider buying if it went into production. I would consider a SRT Challenger Core with some add-on goodies, but I can't afford that. And seeing as they're going bye-bye, the Challenger, I guess it's nothing to worry about for me. -
Plymouth Barracuda Concept
The70judgeman replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I must be behind in all this. Last I heard, the 'Cuda concept was dead in the water. Also, which branch of Chrysler would actually market the car since Plymouth is obviously gone...Chrysler or Dodge? I can see SRT, but that's the "High Performance" division, and there would definitely be a model offered there. Dodge 'Cuda doesn't work for me. And Chrysler, to me, is more family oriented...not "performance" related. Can't see Plymouth being revived for just one car either. Hmmm.....a bastard car? -
I've been thinking about getting, like Curtis, different displacement engines to build a few 'Cuda's...well, at least 4. Gonna use the HEMI in the kit for one. The plan is a 340, 383, 440, & 426 powered "Cuda's. My question is though, are the Gibson engines really worth the, give or take, $30 each? I mean, a 'Cuda kit and a Gibson motor....right there, you're at around $60. Although, I think I can scrounge a 440 from another kit.
-
@Nick- I could go to Steinhafels. My brother-in-law works there and I can use his employee discount. That's what I did for the recliner I bought. It's a $450 recliner I got a couple of years ago for $280 delivered and set-up by him. By "set-up" I mean it has heat, massage(upper and lower), and power recline. But anyway, I don't think I need something that nice just to display models in. Although, it would be nice...probably too nice. "Scratch and Dent" might work too. I'll have to go check it out.

@Bruce- That's a really sweet display case. I've been looking for something like that for some time. Craigslist is pretty much a bust around here and I don't know anyone that has one that they're willing to part with.

World Of Wheels
The70judgeman replied to lordairgtar's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Milwaukee show probably won't be around much longer due to the high price/low value of it. And $20+ to see mostly the same cars EVERY year....no thanks. There's really no incentive to go anymore anyway....especially with no model show/contest. I always stopped to look and admire the work of other builders. I even entered a couple models one of the last years the contest was held and walked away with a third place in my category/age group(factory stock/adult). It's the ribbon in the middle(the plaques are from a couple of MOPAR shows). It's too bad though as I used to look forward to the Milwaukee show every year. -
LHS (Local Hobby Shop)
The70judgeman replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Same as Ben, Model Empire, except I'd go there at least once a week...when I had money. Only, it's in West Allis. The other one in the area is Greenfield News & Hobby. Also family owned and operated. With a little bit of many types of hobbies. -
What do you drive?
The70judgeman replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
@Mark- '04 had the 5.7l (ls1) and the '05 & '06 had the 6.0l (ls2). Not up to speed on all the GM corporate lunks....um, engines. They seem to change every year or two. I'm sure I'll be corrected. -
2012-2014 COPO Camaro?
The70judgeman replied to camarobuilder's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just for the engine and other speed parts, yes....for other projects. Not a fan of the "new" Camaro. -
question about italeri tires
The70judgeman replied to chitownbri's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've had rubber model tires dry rot before. It's just a real world problem that happens to tires...scale or 1:1 auto/truck tires. Couldn't tell you how to preserve them though. -
Scratch built yard goat
The70judgeman replied to Bgrgbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I posted a couple of pictures of a Capacity TJ4000 in the 1:1 truck picture section a while back. Believe it's on page 2. They're not the greatest or most detailed pictures, but it's all I have. It's the one I used to drive at a previous job. It has a sprung front and bagged rear suspensions. More about it there. -
@Greg- Very interesting kit. Just noticed on the box cover....the concrete chunks in the foreground with the holes in them. I used to work for a company that produces concrete products like that. Anyway, just thought it was a cool and "different" kit. The "IED" part really got my attention. Thanks for opening the box and showing.

Forget models-build this:

@Joe- Been using K&N's myself for years. Three of my last vehicles had them...'93 Grand Prix, '97 K1500, and '07 Sonata. Need to save some $ to get a K&N Cold Air Intake and filter for my 2013 Ram...395hp isn't enough. Love not having to worry about buying cruddy restrictive air filters ever again. Just wash them periodically and let dry while I wash my vehicle...re-oil, and put it back at the end.

My job irked me today...well, EVERYDAY I'm there irks me. Making a BIG FAT 0 for extra income. ALL of it is gone, and then some, well before I get my paycheck. Missed out on about $2000.00+ of OT while I was a temp to hire(3 months)...was only allowed to work 40 hours per week at that time. As soon as I was hired on as an employee, the OT dumped out of course. Bored to death there, dread waking up to go there, can't stand a lot of the people there...I JUST HATE IT THERE!!! Can't depend on a regular schedule, so a part time job is kind of out of the question right now. I'm supposed to be on 2nd shift(2:30pm-1am or so), but it's so slow right now, people are laid-off or on vacation, so 2nd shift is working 1st shift hours...for now. Time for another drastic change. Gotta find a new regular full time job AND then find a 2nd part time job to make up the difference. Deep breath......rant over.
