"64 Impala front & rear vac formed "glass" $3:50 from The Modelhaus. http://www.modelhaus.com/index.php?c=4041&p=68527 However, check with them what kit it is for as there may be more than 1 '64 Impala kit (although at that price it's not really an expensive mistake).

Model 4 doors & wagons are not exactly common for any time period. -
I can't believe such a simple post generated 9 pages of response! My 2c? If it ain't broke tinker with it till it is...

Note that as a Canadian Robert here is skilled in the use of sarcasm - the highest form of wit. Well done. -
1/25 Revell '70 Plymouth HEMI 'Cuda 2'n1
zenrat replied to MachinistMark's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Didn't some of the Pro-Modeller kits have PE? -
I have yet to build this. The body is nicely engraved but like all the Nostalgia Heroes range it has a far too shallow interior tub so as to fit on top of the batteries for the electric motor. I plan to kitbash it with a a Firebird chassis & interior tub.

Rubber bands & an "adult" toy?

I've seen tractors with a set up that looks like an inverted dropped axle but they are designed to be like that from the start (for high ground clearance), don't go as quick and won't have the braking forces applied to the front end of a car (if they even have front brakes).

Pink Primer (Tamiya)
zenrat replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You're gonna hate me - I can't remember the name. It was a holts or duplicolour rattlecan but not a colour matched car touch up. It was part of a range aimed at people just painting stuff rather than touching up their cars. I might still have the can in my shed. I'll look when i'm down there tomorrow (it's bedtime now). -
It would also put a large turning moment on the axle clamps when you applied the brake. That, combined with the forward weight shift due to braking would probably result in a sudden crash dive. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ "Hey Wernher, you missed me" - Fred's Dad

The one time I tried this the next time I tried to spray the first burst of paint ejected the small "jet" from the nozzle leaving me with a dribbler. That was an enamel nozzle soaked in turps. I take the nozzle off and blocking the hole in the top with my finger, blow through it.

I use a device I like to call my hand... Seriously though, my first thought looking at that was that it is fraught with danger. There has to be a way to do similar using a palm sander. Mine has the paper attached with velcro so maybe I can make up a pouch with velcro on to hold the paint to the sander?

What Steve said, but use wire from large paper clips. I find it easiest to shape the wire first then slide the insulation over the top. And don't stop at black - colour code your hoses to match the paint...

Cheesemaker Decals? Straight out of my imagination via MS Powerpoint.

I built this as one of my first major kit bashes when I got back into the hobby about 10 years ago. I used the AMT Bantam Blast and the Model Master pro street AMX.

Well done you guys who have finished your builds. It's happened before that early finishers have not actually turned up to race so don't forget to line up at the start in December...

Mickey Thompson's Challenger One. Still alive, Feb. 8
zenrat replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Geez. I'm having enough trouble building one out of the box! Thompson, the Arfons brothers and Breedlove were the last "Hot Rodder" land speed record holders building their cars from second hand and salvaged components without massive budgets or intrusive corporate sponsorship. -
Nice. I had to trim the bottom of the windscreen to get the interior tub to sit right and mount the engine as far forward as it would go. If I didn't do that then it all still fitted together but the wheels were to far forward in the wheel arches. You've obviously checked it all fits right before gluing in the "glass" yes?

Pink Primer (Tamiya)

Not a Pocher, but it is slightly pink. -
If I order paint from zero paints in the UK it usually takes 5 days to get to me in Australia. Just saying... However, when was the last time a clerk in a store said "It'll be a week, we'll call you when it's in" and then actually did just that?

what are you work bench must-haves?
zenrat replied to wgflatliner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, a radio is important. Particularly tomorrow so I can listen to the Bulldogs walk all over the Crows... -
Jim, you chose to ask a question that can raise hackles. Not your fault. Personally If I ever build a NASCAR or NASTruck (instead of just raiding one for parts) then I will not clear over the decals. This is because I am lazy and can use the "they should not be shiny" argument to justify my idleness. But really I don't give a fig if they are shiny or not on other peoples builds. What does get on my tits is otherwise immaculate builds by supposedly top notch builders without the decals slit where they cross panel gaps. This could recently be seen on the centrespread build in a model car magazine that rhymes with Ale Sorto.

Because if it's on the bench i'll do nothing but surf modelling forums and bid on E-Bay for kits I don't need. If I need to look at what i'm trying to build i'll print it out or sketch it and pin it up on the wall above the bench. If I have to go and look something up then it's only a walk up the yard. If I can't bothered to go and look then it obviously wasn't that important and i'll guess, make it up or work it out (I always have pen & paper to sketch on and that's often an easier way to figure out something like a linkage than to look at photos on the web).

zenrat replied to wgflatliner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The bench itself has to be of a height so it can be worked at whilst standing so when my back craps out again I can still build.
