  1. How about these ideas for workshops. Clearing over racecar decals - 6 hours of "discussion" terminating in a cage fight. 101 uses for an AMT Firestone skinny. 101 uses for a Revell 5.0 Ford. Address your phobia - how to ship kits to Australia (open to US e-bay sellers only). That's not a muscle car - No discussion, straight to the fight. There could also be a demonstration element where representatives from Revell and AMT demonstrate with a 1:1 engine how the fan belt can be made to support an alternator without any visible bracketry.
  2. When this thread was first posted I thought "here we go again. Same old can of worms getting opened" and I knew it would end up like this. It's your model, do what you want. Total accuracy is an impossible goal because I will always be able to find something out of scale on your build. If you're building for a judged contest then go find the judge and ask them. There, problem solved. Now, as the worms are already out. What exactly makes for a muscle car?...
  3. Don't store rattle cans with the caps lower than the bases (they are racked like this in some stores) as the valves will clog.
  4. Show us when you get going. I planned to do similar with the 65 wagon but every kit I bought for the donor chassis turned out too good not to build. Still, I used the all moulded in one kit chassis and it can't have turned out too bad as i've won with it twice.
  5. Dajiban is new to me but I like what I see. Good work.
  6. I nearly rear ended a learner on Monday 'cause I was sitting at the 100kph limit and they were at the 80 they are restricted to in New South Wales. It's a stupid law that adds a new hazard instead of mitigating risk. Anyway, nice build. I love it when people make them local.
  7. I've got a half built one I dip back into now & then. It's not a quick build and wiring 4 engines was fun. Re. chrome, a bit of research shows that there wasn't much that was shiny on the 1:1. I guess Mickey felt polishing was a waste of time as it didn't add mph.
  8. I would put money (well, $5 anyway) on Fujimi still having the moulds for these put away somewhere. Maybe organised nagging will get them repopped in time for the release of Mad Max iv?
  9. In a nutshell, the engine has some odd gaps in places you wouldn't expect it but otherwise it builds up OK (bar the PE hinges which will drive you insane) and any accuracy issues won't be a problem if you don't go looking for them (although the roof on the hard top does look short even if you don't know what you are looking at). Buy one if you see one cheap.
  10. Get the AMT 289 Cobra. It's a real old mould but it's well engineered and goes together well if you take your time.
  11. Mate, it's cheaper and easier to just tie them to the furniture.
  12. You know how old it is right? Good work James. And good on you for asking for feedback.
  13. If I had to choose just one? Zero paints http://www.zero-paints.com
  14. About 60' works well for me.
  15. With paint like that? Not much of a sleeper. Nice work. I nearly started mine today. But then got sidetracked by the build with the May deadline...
  16. I don't put $ into my builds although I think I once weighted the nose of a model plane with some coins... Arf arf
  17. Strictly speaking what the "winning" bidder pays for an item in an e-bay auction is not what they think it is worth, it is one bid more than what the second highest bidder thinks it is worth.
  18. That is excellent news. Gasser Madness is an invaluable resource for anyone planning a gasser build and this resurrected site will stand as a memorial to Byron's enthusiasm.
  19. Lindberg Ramchargers Super Stock Dodge turned up today all the way from Florida. Thanks Ron (Slantasaurus).
  20. you haven't got the firing order wrong have you! I watched the movie yesterday as "research". I'd forgotten how badly it's dated. Still, it helped me firm up some design decisions and reinforced my belief that it's not about top speed, it's about not getting stopped. So I was wracking my brains trying to decide what sort of vehicle would not get stopped (not an ambulance - we see the cops pull Burt over) and ended up thinking about Federal agencies. And I think I have come up with a doozy of a paint scheme. Something no cop in his right mind is going to want to pull over. What is it? Well that would be telling...
  21. Does the pod race in The Phantom Menace count?
  22. Shirley with AMT repopping Chevy & Ford vans a Dodge must be next? We can only hope. It would be nice though if it was the twin engined Krazy Van...
  23. Watching Mad Men. When will we see Don handle the AMT account?

  24. It's all very well saying people can ask for criticism if they want it (and i'm adding it into my sig) but sometimes the people who need to be told are the ones who won't listen.
  25. Very good. But real men would go and do it on the salt...
