What Did You Accomplish Today? (Model Car Work)
PatW replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I took the windscreen off, fitted the roof unit and side windows and shaved the windscreen down to fit. Tried the Bronco roll cage/rear seat. -

Superb! A father and son team not far from here who build customer Porsche racers used to build these for Rothmans.

Car modelling in the UK
PatW replied to Earl Marischal's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Airfix were making a few British car kits, Ford Escort Mk1, Ford Lotus Cortina, Jaguar 420 Saloon & E Type, Vauxhall Viva, MGB, Triumph Herald, 1930 Bentley etc all in 1/32nd scale, that was in the late 1950's when I started building Spitfires and Hurricanes in 1/72nd scale. I don't recollect the Commer Van at all. They did make a very small diecast by Matchbox around that time. PS I've just found a 1/32 resin slot car body of the Commer PB Van on ebay UK, by dealer mOrris122. at £22 plus postage. -

Thanks David. It would still be good to see years although built some years ago. These are the first ones to be imported here to the UK along with the Roller. Hi James, no I used the acrylic clear red that is used for rear lights, just carefully brushed it on. Two light coats letting each coat to dry overnight. -
Is this a short wheelbase kit? If so I've been hunting for one as all the others (Revell) are long wheelbase.

What did you see on the road today?
PatW replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was on the top deck in the front seats of a bust between Buckingham and Oxford and at some traffic lights we caught up with a Rolls Royce Cullinan, obviously with a private number plate. But even more interesting on the way home again around 2.45pm we caught up with a private plated Bentley Bentayga. Both I suppose higher priced than our 4 bed split level detached home! -

Superb! Thanks for the photo's. -
Here in the UK I run an ECO Renault Captur Diesel 1.5, It does 54 MPG round town and 63MPG on a long run. After 3 years from new they have to have an MOT certificate of road worthiness, brakes/steering/no rust/good tyres and brakes. But also an exhaust check for Co2 emissions, due to amount of filters in the exhaust and throughout the turbo engine it registers on the government test equipment Zero Emissions! So we don't pay what is called Road Fund Tax each year. It's now 8 years old and done 65000 miles so as we are in our 70's this will be our last car, and as most say on here EV's are just too expensive, and as yet the government haven't rated EV's for Road Fund Tax, but as they make Billions of Pounds from this tax on combustion engines they can't afford to loose that all of us changing to EV's, interesting! Also they stopped any further research on Hydrogen vehicles that only emit water from the exhaust as across all government departments there was no agreement of what taxes to charge us for using them!

Yes like here in the UK as a pensioner it's not the place to get a bargain anymore, some USA kits are over £100! -

I've laid up the Bronco decals, once I've sealed them with clear coat I can finish off the swage line round the body. And placed the buggy on the trailer.. -
It's really looking good, I've built a few WRC cars of various sizes, this is a particularly good kit. These are Ford Focus in Ken Block decals 1/24 and 1/43 scale.. Some decals are aftermarket others are my own printed decals.

I also notice that ebay now has numerous categories for model cars, when I used to just go to 'Auction' for car(automobile) kits there are so many more areas to search. I am also reluctant to use ebay for selling stuff as they are expensive now on charges taking a higher percentage each time I try to sell! I don't deal with Amazon here in the UK because of their expensive shipping regime. -
Project x converted to ev
PatW replied to Scott8950's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Many questions here in the UK haven't been answered by government who want us to change to EV in the next 20 years (I shall be 93!). They talk about getting rid of what is possibly our last coal mine and coal powered power stations. Recently they were talking about shutting one of only three or so Nuclear Power stations because it's old fashioned. It's new Nuclear Power stations we need if we are to go electric only! People will come home from work (those who don't work from home already) plug in their cars and have no energy left to light their houses or cook a meal! Adversely we have a new company about 20 miles away that have already changed road cars from fuel to electric, Jaguar E Type (the car the Harry and Meghan used after their wedding) Porches both 911 and 356. The 356 is twice as fast, faster! Also Buses, trucks, taxi's and small city delivery vans etc. They all have something we don't personally like that's automatic gearboxes or a variant of it. But change we are going to do to save the Earth for our future generations, like it or not! -

Thanks Ray, I've found the old Scale Equipment identical buggy that I bought years ago and am going to give it a refurb. as the new kit has two sets of buggy decals, I'll also give it a paint update. And it's plastic not resin as I first thought, but that was about 15 years ago! -

We have UPS here alongside numerous others. UPS are the only courier here that can't give a time slot to deliver and can't collect at all. -

Some more on the above kit build.. Test fitting the plastic wheels/tyres. The pins they mount on don't capture them so after sand on tyres and centres painted they will need to be glued on. I have had to do the same with the Bronco as again the method of mounting those wheels/tyres are by metal pins through the backing plates but they are not tight and fall off, so I've glued those as well. -
This looks really great! On my visits to Le Mans, the Corvettes are always the loudest of all. Stood on the banking half way round the 9 mile circuit you could hear them coming, when it was directly in front of you and even louder watching it pull away down the Mulsanne straight!

Absolutely SUPERB!
