  1. Dissimilar metal corrosion occurs when two metals in contact are exposed to a common electrolyte; one corrodes faster while the other is protected.
  2. Flavors like armadillo-lime-mint and banana-mustard have never been very popular.
  3. System-wide failures of the grid are possible in extremely hot weather, so having mosquito netting for sleeping outside is prudent.
  4. Nope. Key lime pie.
  5. Record breaking temps are being forecast for some areas, but when you dig deeper, you often find that temperature measurements were made in the shade in times past, and that many today are made on hot tarmac in the sun close to where jet engines are being tested.
  6. Characters of the cyrillic alphabet look pretty odd.
  7. Thing is, these sub-idiots are not at all uncommon. There are hundreds of videos like this on YT, and for every one that gets recorded, there are probably 1000 that don't.
  8. Mayes with onaise beez good on all kindsa sammiges.
  9. Enjoy the simple things in life and try to focus on the positive instead of letting your problems get you down.
  10. X-Files' Gillian Anderson was a babe.
  11. Seek no more...$30, free shipping https://www.ebay.com/itm/405044054893? https://www.ebay.com/itm/126534005903? https://www.ebay.com/itm/256543899704?
  12. Disclaimers like "do not use this riding mower as a hedge trimmer" must be addressing this guy.
  13. Just tried it, works fine for me.
  14. Absolutely fascinating. I wonder just exactly what the function of the blue is to trick you into seeing red. If I was going to live forever, I'd definitely put this on my list of deep dives. Alas, the days grow short.
  15. The other thing that sets really good mechanics apart from all the rest is that they understand the basics, and know everything that rolls with an IC engine works pretty much the same way, and they aren't intimidated by antique or newfangled variations on the original theme. The first mechanic I apprenticed under had worked on model T Fords when they were new, and he imparted that particular piece of wisdom to me. Sounds like your guys learned the same mindset.
  16. When wrecking my lungs was as much a part of my daily routine as wrecking my liver, I was rarely without a Zippo. Cool little devices, ever so much cooler than wimpy butane lighters.
  17. The Watson front-engined cars were heavily influenced by the Frank Kurtis "roadsters" that preceded them. For in-depth info on the Watson cars, I'd suggest you start here... EDIT: That twin-nostril nose, by the way, was a Watson trademark that appeared on many of his cars in various iterations, and a f'glass repop of it was even offered in the wayback in full scale as part of a "kit" to build a T-tub-based street roadster. Though I've never seen one completed, I have an ad for the kit in a '60s Hot Rod mag, and its 1/25 scale version is on the shelf in the "parts acquisition/research" section.
  18. Hours sometimes pass like days, sometimes like minutes.
  19. Good man. I'll use air (or electric) for most larger disassembly, but never never never for assembly. Years ago I knew a "race car mechanic" who assembled a 427 in a Cobra with air wrenches. Laughed at anyone trying to tell him about controlled bolt stretch, etc. Car scattered the engine, a rod through the side of the block, on the second lap.
  20. A WHOLE lot of truth to that, and it gets worse with every generation of vehicles.
  21. Yup, there are some good ones out there, but they're a tiny minority. I've been closely associated with the car repair/modification/restoration industry for over 50 years, and I can count the really good, competent, honest, and intelligent practitioners I've known on one hand. And that doesn't mean they all know everything about everything. What it does mean is that they know enough to know when it's time to do some in-depth research, get out the factory manuals, possibly learn something new, or admit that the necessary work isn't within their sphere of expertise or ability.
  22. Not that long ago on a hiking trail, I came across a little box turtle that had very recently been stomped to death. Multiple sets of boot prints around it, so it was obviously several people who thought it was fun to smash a defenseless turtle. I'll spare the board the rest of my thoughts.
  23. Well, ya got the yahoo cowboys at the tire stores who put every nut on with an impact wrench set at WIDE OPEN instead of a torque wrench (and stretch the studs which deforms the threads and seizes the nut), you got the knuckle-dragging hackers who have no clue but believe they're God's gift to machinery while they ruin everything they touch, you got the outright crooks, you got the people working on cars because they're "too stupid to do anything else", and then you got the little fellas with potmetal "tools" they bought at Offshore Junk Я Us (and not a one of 'em has a phone app to work it). That's the vast majority of what's out there. Use the right tool (or part) correctly and understand the job you're doing...on either end? Who you trying to kid, anyway?
  24. Summer doesn't officially start until June 20, next Thursday.
