Concept Car Rederings/ original drawings
Ace-Garageguy replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in Auto Art
Cool stuff. I particularly like the '63 "Belmon" (?), and might borrow some of your styling elements to do an actual build...if you have no objection. The Mercury-like reverse slant of the rear window, the matching angle of the upswept tail, the long sweeping side spear, and the later-model or Chrysler Corp.-style windshield combine well. -
"Injuns" is a word that can get you disciplined on some sites.

Google's "AI Overview" is really, really stupid.

Exactly. Google was a wonderful tool early on. Now it's dogma-and-ad-driven G A R B A G E. -
RED Turn Signals/Hazards : WHY ?!?
Ace-Garageguy replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ever since I first encountered amber signal lamps on the rear of vehicles in Europe, I've preferred them. Vastly. -
Building Before Paint?
Ace-Garageguy replied to 1hobby1's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes. Which is the same process, essentially, as building a real car (not the factory, but building customs, rods, restorations, etc.) -
Andretti Indoor Karting and Games has a place located between the two shops I work with.

Fixed my propane-fired point-of-use tankless shower-water heater, saved the original ignitor/timer module, so I still have a brandy new one for backup, and saved a few hundred bucks by not having to buy a whole new unit.

Congrats to both of you. Great to hear stories like this. I'd thought I'd spend my life with the girl I loved when I was 19, but things didn't go that way, and none of the others ever measured up. Not even close. There is honestly never a day I don't think about her, and even occasionally dream about her.

Beautiful work...as always.

Buick Riviera Nailhead valve covers
Ace-Garageguy replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Surely you've heard about the Deelmaer Water-Engine option? It was killed by the oil companies, and every trace of its existence was removed...except, apparently, for this one set of 1/25 scale valve covers. And if you play the valve cover backwards, it says "eat your dog". Cue X-Files music. Sounds like the subject of one of those special YooToob videos with the computer-voice narration that goes on and on and on and on and on and on with a nonsensical "secret" story and random photos that don't go with anything. -
First month I spent in my place in Az., the AC didn't work. 112-115 in the daytime, 80s late at night. I don't know about you, but low 80s is pretty comfortable to me if the humidity is low. Anyway, I rigged a couple of big cheap box fans to blow OUT windows in one end of the house, opened windows at the other end so cool evening air could come in. The house is, fortunately, pretty well insulated, so closing it up first thing in the AM trapped the nice coolness most of the day, and it didn't start getting kinda uncomfortable until late in the afternoon. Just a thought...

What's with the U.S.Post office these days?
Ace-Garageguy replied to styromaniac's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
FOLLOW UP: My VERY competent regular driver tracked down the missing shipment and brought it to my door. It seems every day he's off, my packages go astray. So I asked him about it. His answer: "It's just what I have to do sometimes, but it's not the same job anymore, and nobody wants to do it. We have to work with what we can hire." -
Oh man...that is beautiful. Anyone who doesn't get why this was THE golden era of F1 is just blind. I thought I was pretty much done buying car models, but I HAVE to have one of those.

My tankless point-of-use "outdoor" propane-fired water heater (for the shower) gave up the ghost this AM. Cold shower. Happy happy, when I bought the thing, I finagled a backup ECM for the day it would inevitably die. And this PM I actually found it. I've been camping in this collapsing dump for 10 years, never intended to be here past 2018, and the heater lasted about 8 years. Not too bad, but nothing lasts forever. If for whatever reason the new control module doesn't fix it, Home Depot can get me a complete new unit by Friday. Installation takes me about an hour.

One of these days, I will have had enough.

What non-auto model did you get today?
Ace-Garageguy replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I'm more stoked about this one than I thought I'd be. Roundhouse 3-in-1 kit #1517 It's not exactly a 'kit" in the conventional sense, but rather a collection of HO scale railroad car parts that provide the basis for scratch-bashing THREE old-time snow-clearing implements. Pretty complete instructions including templates for parts that have to be scratch-built, and mods to included bits. The cars that result, though dating from the early 20th century, could conceivably still be in use on a remote shortline somewhere, where the management style was to continuously maintain and repair rolling stock that performed adequately, rather than replace it. -
"Endeavor" was the unusual first name of Colin Dexter's Inspector Morse character made TV-famous by John Thaw.
