  1. Sorry, I think this setup inhales vigorously. Anybody really buying that "It's to attract younger members" noise? If they're interested in models, they'll find the sites. They're good at stuff like that. I'm running Google Chrome and, among other annoyances, can't see any place to click for new content.
  2. As others have said, great build and great pictures. This was my favorite just because of the weathering, especially the wavy chrome trim along the side I hope we'll see more of your work soon
  3. The only thing that should be banned is politicizing a model because of its decals. To the wicked, everything serves as pretext. - Voltaire.
  4. Better start keeping a closer eye on the race cars, Harry. Some use products made by these guys, and I wouldn't want the perpetually-aggrieved pitchfork and torch gang to get the wrong idea.
  5. Maybe that's because Political Correctness is nothing short of prior restraint on free speech, and some of us intend to push back. Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities. - Voltaire
  6. It's disgusting and disheartening to see what passes for rational thought anymore. Somehow we've gotten to the point where, in the minds of some, a particular kit's decals either equate the manufacturer and/or the builder with advocacy for the policies of a certain government or represent an insurmountable burden of offense that can only be eradicated by a literary and pictorial "cleansing". In the case of the DoH Charger, is anyone really convinced that MPC designed it to show solidarity with the antebellum South? Or that building King Tiger and T-34 tank kits indicates support for the Nazi German and Communist Russian regimes? If you still want to play the "offended" card, the USSR's Red Star might be considered the most "offensive" symbol ever, given the millions who were invaded and subjugated under it during the decades of the Cold War. Yet, to the best of my knowledge, no one's calling for it to be taken out of any kits As regards the DoH Charger, it's interesting that variations of this flag flew over the entire slave-owning US for decades, implying at least tacit approval for slavery while variants of this flag only flew over the "slave states" for roughly 4 years, yet current "thinking" says the Confederate flag and its variants must be eradicated at all costs. I'm sure it won't be long before the cultural Marxists notice this and go after the Stars and Stripes too. There's precedence for all this: does anyone else remember drag racing cars kits that eliminated beer or tobacco contingency decals? Or decals for WWII German planes etc that eliminated the swastika? The point of models is to represent the 1:1 item as realistically as possible, including significant emblems, yet a world-wide epidemic of "hypersensitive butt-hurt" has subordinated rational thought to the PC "groupthink" that Orwell warned us about. How 'bout this: Let the model companies make accurate kits, including relevant decals, and let the interested builders decide if they want to buy them or not. James, that's an incredible build, and I'm sorry you can't just post something like that and have your fellow builders appreciate it for what it is.
  7. Holy cow! This makes their Camaro look like a masterpiece! I don't know if they ever gave this project a name, but I thought I'd offer a few suggestions that came to mind after seeing the pictures, 1) Shamouflage 2) A not-rod 3) Krylon pile-on 4) Stevie Blunder 5) No-Par (hokey, imitation billboards) 6) Yellow flub-machine (Beatles reference) 7) Budget Rend-A-Car 8) A rattle-can also-ran 9) Lemon-zine 10) Quitsubishi And what's with the tiny wheels and tires? Is someone's lawn tractor up on blocks now?
  8. I like this definition of PC: A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t*rd by the clean end.
  9. If you ever get the chance, read Isaac Asimov's book I, Robot. As a basis for all the various tangents the book takes, he establishes the manufacturer-created concept of "universal laws for robots", as many people in the early part of the story were wary of having these quasi-sentient creatures around even with such assurances. (IIRC, Law #1 is No robot shall injure a human). During the course of the book, robots continue to progress in complexity and people gradually come to be less afraid of them, to the extent of having them as part of their households, while some industries (space mining) could not exist without them. I know it sounds snobbish to say "It's way better than the movie", but it just is.
  10. Congratulations on annihilating that slump! I don't often use the word spectacular when referring to models, but I'm convinced it certainly applies here. Between the chassis mods you made to achieve the correct stance, the innovation used in creating the look of the gauges and your exemplary BMF work, this will definitely be one of the most remarkable builds we'll see this year.
  11. I'm told Canadians are generally very polite people, and Dan may have found himself in that "if ya can't say something nice, don't say nothin' at all" quandary.
  12. I don't mean to insult anyone who happens to like the show, but I just don't see how people can continue to watch trash like this. As expected, the show borrows all the usual formulaic drama-generating premises that other auto-themed shows have beaten into the ground (Parts difficulties! Cost overruns! Time constraints!) but adds the concept of a metal-working visionary/drama queen who insists on having his way around the shop and showing up only when he's "inspired". Just the kind of guy you want around when there's a "time crunch". As for the "project", the car was hideous, especially the back end. Can't wait to see what it costs to repair when the kid wraps it around a power pole (and with a stick and that engine, you know he will). Lastly, I'm sure I wasn't the only one who laughed out loud when that pile of poop overheated in traffic. I guess the "visionary" didn't envision that happening.
  13. Thanks for the info, Jonathan. If it's that flexible and still works as well as their regular masking tape, I'll definitely be buying some.
  14. I'm uncertain.
  15. Are you sure you're not talking about Schrödinger's cat?
  16. This is my last remaining "grail"; unfortunately it will probably remain exactly that. I just can't/won't pay exorbitant prices for kits.
  17. I guess I was so hyped over the trucks finally being available I never even looked that closely at the grille etc. Here's the one Chuck Most did: Now you've got me curious. Got a good micrometer? If you get a chance, take an OD measurement of the lens and post it.
  18. I remember that being an issue. The reviewer I read was initially concerned by the appearance but went on to say he had no problem painting over the bare surface. The smell, OTOH, might be a concern. I don't recall any other kit review where that was an issue, but I think Moebius switched production partners, so who knows what's going on there. It'll be interesting to see how many others encounter this as well. Those who don't usually wash their kits before working on them should probably reconsider. I'd suggest using Dawn dishwashing liquid till the smell is gone.

My apologies. You mentioned that in the first post but I was apparently in too much of a hurry to get to the pics.

I've always got time to stop and look at a nicely built C3. Hopefully a moderator will send you a PM telling you how to upload those pics. What paint did you use on the body?
  21. Our chief weapon is fear! Fear that a self-appointed expert may stop posting. Fear that the hobby-related people he interacts with might look down on us as a modeling community. Fear that a model company will get tired of our critiques and stop producing kits. How are we doin' so far? Some of you may need this: Clannish = cliquish
  22. My Panasonic phone setup allows me to block up to 30 numbers. It's been full for months. Fortunately it's programmed so that calls that only show a number but not a name never even make it to the answering machine. I'm tired of dealing with those dorsal orifices.
